I’ve went with Outbreak in this at 12-1. I think that the run at Royal Ascot was too bad to be true, and I think that they’ll change tactics here

Marhaba The Champ looks a good price at 20/1, was fav for its last race at Epsom when it underperformed – in which the horse apparently didn’t like the first time tongue tie). If forgiven for that last run, which I’m willing to do at the price, then the horse could run a big race, has winning form on g/s ground too.

The smart move might be to heed Alan’s advice and side with a hold-up horse, who can get plenty of cover from the forecast headwind and be delivered late.

So, to summarise, this calls for a hold-up horse, who isn’t frightened to get its hooves wet, and definitely didn’t have a pint of prawns and an ice cream on Selsey Beach before racing.

I drove to Selsey beach a few weeks back Ian, looked out of my car window and saw that it was no different to the beach at Bognor Regis, so I turned around and drove home.

    A most disappointing affair.

I found a pint of prawns from Julie’s seafood shack, a three-scoop mint choc chip waffle cone from Caroline’s Diary (I even met Caroline) and a drive past “Far Things,” Patrick Moore’s old house, made for a pleasant pre-racing morning trip, but each to their own.

Anyway, a leniently-treated hold-up horse who needs give – that’s got to be the key to the “Crooked Spire” Handicap this year!

I do love prawns and anything mint/chocolate related, I’ll have to give it another try, especially if we find the winner of this race, the handicaps this week seem especially difficult though.

Lord Protector has cover from “on High” so I’ll take my
chances there at 9/1. The pack will open like the red
sea and he’ll scoot through them to devine victory.

He has drifted like a barge but I have been unable to resist Imperial Fighter at 25/1.

Won his maiden on heavy ground at the meeting two years ago. Then second to Coroebus at Newmarket and a respectable fifth behind Luxembourg at Doncaster.

His three year old campaign began with a good third place in the Irish Guineas.

It is fair to say he has not set the world alight this season, only beating one horse in his first three runs and then finishing down the field in the Royal Hunt Cup.

He has a first time hood and the services of Oisin Murphy and I am happy to chance him at the price.
