I’d want that price him running in the 2010 Gold Cup.

You would want a price for any of them running at this stage Fist
July 29, 2009 at 00:50 #241406I’ve had a few quid (£13) on Long Run for the Arkle, at odds between 100-140.
Was France’s top juvenile hurdler last season, and is one from two over fences at Auteuil, winning his first chase, before being beaten into second in the Ferdinand Dufaure (France’s top summer 4yo chase) at the GSdP meeting.
Owned by Robert Waley-Cohen and trained by the genius Guillaume, it’s not unreasonable to think that the Arkle may develop into a target, as he seems an unlikely stayer at the RSA trip. He’ll get plenty of early-season allowances if he is brought over here, and whilst they will be shot by next March, I should be in a reasonable trading position if he wins a couple early.
Has a bit to find on the book with some of the more likely Arkle types, but will have the benefit of experince, and hopefully can prove to be at least useful.
July 29, 2009 at 09:39 #241449Hi Grasshopper.
This is taken from a RP story 3 May 2009:-
"He will remain in France until early November and then go to Nicky Henderson if he is nice to me! It is a long time before Cheltenham and we are already thinking about the Grand National in 2013."
I had been toying with the idea for a couple of months of starting a 2013 Grand National – Long Range Thoughts thread for a laugh, but have now shelved it.
July 29, 2009 at 09:50 #241450Does anyone think Agglestone Rock can progress into an Arkle horse?
He’s two-for-two over the larger obstacles after impressive victories at Cartmel and Uttoxeter. He’s now officially rated 127.
He defeated Cortinas by 20L on his chase debut – Cortinas ran I’msingingtheblues to 10 1/2L last year and was making his sixth start over fences.
Agglestone Rock went up 7lbs in the handicap for that win, but went on to win very cosily at Uttoxeter.
There’s little doubt he needs to improve considerably (connections admitted that after RUK touted him as a potential Arkle horse after his debut), but he’s only a 4YO, a wonderful jumper and Mick Fitzgerald has had nothing but good things to say about him.
I may be bias because I’m associated with a couple of horses in-training with Phil, but he jumps, travels and generally looks a lovely prospect for the future.
From philipkirbyracing…
"Aggie is on a well earned break now – he will be back Christmas time to contest some novice chases – he gets no penalty in a higher class race for winning two class 4’s.. Aggie has now won FIVE races in less than a year – and surely there is more to come from this lovely big 4 year old. We are all very excited about him."
I will also be following Somersby and Qozak very closely when they return and face the larger obstacles.

I think this could turn out to be a very tough Arkle and better than we have had for some time. The fast there are 3 Champion Hurdle class horses all going chasing at the same time is something we haven’t see for a long time.
If they jump fence as well as they did hurdles you will have to dig very very dee to find something with the speed to compete.
As good as Forpady’s and Kalahari were last year they were not in the class of this trio over hurdles

Interesting stuff, Gerald – sounds reasonably promising. Thanks for the update.
July 31, 2009 at 00:25 #241856I have been backing
Mikael d"Hageunet
for the RSA for the last month or so at 6/1,have £50 on to date! i cant see why he is priced for the Arkle as he is a stayer, not a 2 miler!
July 31, 2009 at 19:35 #241965Don’t underestimate the speed that Mikael D’Haguenet possesses. He has plenty of gears and would have no problem at 2 miles IMO. He’d have been aimed at the Supreme Novices at Cheltenham had Cousin Vinny and Hurricane Fly not been in the same yard.
With Fiveforthree also going over fences, it looks far more likely at this stage that Mikael will be started off over fences at 2 miles. He’ll end up as a three miler but the likes of Kicking King, War Of Attrition, Best Mate and Kauto Star all cut their teeth over the minimum trip. I’d say he’s more likely to turn up in an Arkle than a Sun Alliance but there’s a lot of water to run under the bridge before then.
July 31, 2009 at 19:59 #241968Been having/will be having £5 a week on Celestial Halo for the Champion Hurdle and Big Zeb for the Champion Chase until something bad/good happens to them.

Good point Imperial, but i see
Mikael d"Hageunet
as a very similar horse to
Denman
and i was backing him at 7/1 for the RSA at the same time i"m backing Mikael for the same race! Denman was never a 2 miler and neither is this fellow,IMO of course!
August 2, 2009 at 01:09 #242193Mikael is clearly an incredibly smart horse, but quite honestly he didn’t look to me like a chaser. He hurdled very smartly and there wasn’t much air, if any, between his hooves and the timber.
I’d far rather be backing Karabak for the race at this stage.

Zarkava, if Karabak beats Mikael in the RSA at Cheltenham i will gladly give you my crown! Karabak struggles to jump hurdles,he hangs when he does,in fact he looks like Sadlers Wells in stature, not a 3m chaser,he lacks the scope of Mikael and i wouldn"t want to be the first jockey that puts him to a fence! Just my humble opinion mind!!
August 2, 2009 at 03:07 #242206Ah sorry I was talking about the Arkle. Very much doubt he’ll go for the R&SA. My Way De Solzen didn’t after all.

Won’t be going for the Arkle
Would have to disagree about his chances about being a good chaser and if there was a chance you are right the last place I would run him in is the Arkle at they speed they go at.
If a horse is smart enough to measures his hurdles really well like he does it usually follows suit he will jump equally as well over fences. He doesn’t expend a lot of enrgy when jumping and is usually very fluent which horses who leave a lot of daylight usually are that bit slower.
Sizing Europe was critisied by some for doing exactly that.
He’s a very brave horse as we seen at Cheltenham when he was totally unperturbed by the close attendance of some others on the home turn.
He has everything you could possibly want in a horse and if he trains on and stays sound he looks certain to go right to the top.
Think I’ll back him again
August 15, 2009 at 01:01 #243961An interesting market surrounding Mikaels Cheltenham Target, he is currently 13/2 fav for the Arkle, 6/1fav for the RSA, 33/1 for the Ryanair and 25/1 for the World Hurdle! TAPK has now got £100 win on
Mikael d"Hageunet
for the RSA, i have now backed one of my favourite Chasers for the Ryanair at 20/1,the trip looks ideal,
Forpadydeplasterer
