What are people thoughts for this years Mares Hurdle?
Obviously Apples Jade has to be favourite but Willie Mullins and Rich Ricci now have, as far as I can see, at least four bourses in the mix for this one: Limini, Vroum Vroum Mag, Let’s Dance and Karalee.
I appreciate Ricci ran both Limini and Vroum Vroum Mag against one another in this last year but surely they won’t run all four against one another. What do you think will run in this and where do you think those that dont run in this will end up?
November 26, 2017 at 23:40 #1328971I’d say all 4 Ricci horses will come here if they are fit; where else can they go? Maybe Vroum Vroum has options elsewhere. She went a bit off the boil last year but she’s still a very talented Mare. Ricci will want to win this one badly. She won’t be good enough to win the RyanAir or the Champion Hurdle so this will most likely be her target; although I expect to see her split between hurdles and fences over the season.
Apples Jade favourite though
November 26, 2017 at 23:47 #1328973Not a race where I would get involved heavily, either Ante-Post or on the day, but if pushed for an early fancy,
I’d love to see Minutestomidnight go this route if she’s still in training, or one of Mullins less fashionable ones, Lagostovegas, but a race to leave alone for the timebeing.
November 27, 2017 at 00:11 #1328976Thanks VTC. MinutestoMidnight wasn’t even on my radar but wouldn’t she be a novice?
November 27, 2017 at 01:00 #1328982By the way having done some quick reading I can confirm that MinutestoMidnight is now being trained by Nick Gifford in the UK rather than Jonathan Sweeney.
November 27, 2017 at 01:15 #1328984Thanks for that info, wasn’t aware of that at all.
Yeah, she’d be a Novice, but I’d rather try and get a price on her for this one, as I definitely wouldn’t be betting on The Mares Novice, as it’s not a race I look at at all.
She looked decent last season, but plenty of progression needed of course.
November 27, 2017 at 07:26 #1328989Are you aware of her owner rider vtc? would be some feteto win the mares hurdle with mr dunsdon on her back.
November 27, 2017 at 10:30 #1329001lol, it sure would Rocky. Maybe leave her alone for this then now lol. Don’t know what’s happened to her since the spring, remember ATR discussing her, and how she could be good…………maybe not now, but hey ho, money saved, and I can go back to swerving this race.
November 27, 2017 at 21:05 #1329117Sounds like Vroum Vroum may have run her last race, maybe not, but she is definitely no longer a betting proposition for this or any race. Probably going chasing anyway. I always had a soft spot for her, so I’ll be sad if we’ve seen the last of her.
Ricci was very sweet on Limini, and at 5/1 I’m edging towards her over the gutsy, but far from invincible Apples Jade.
December 2, 2017 at 23:16 #1330096Hi Voleur – I haven’t heard anything about Vroum Vroum Mag having run her last race. Where did you see that?
December 4, 2017 at 10:09 #1330307I heard Rich Ricci say the same thing on Mary Chapmans show On The Line.
February 17, 2018 at 15:00 #1342726Maybe not the most obvious one, but I think Lagostovegas is a nice enough horse, and due out in a few minutes at Gowran Park. Even if she won today, it may not be enough for this, but at 25’s, she’s very backable here. Plenty of decent form in the bag. (Edit…..maybe not lol)
Still not my favourite race at the festival by a long way, but have stumbled into a couple of bets.
Kayf Grace 20’s ew
Midnight Tour 300’s to 310’s
February 26, 2018 at 12:40 #1344052Vroum vroum mag runs here, confirmed today.
February 26, 2018 at 18:03 #1344104Quite surprised to read that be ie des dieux comes here aswell, was keen on her for the ryanair, but willie leaning towards here with VVM aswell
February 27, 2018 at 13:23 #1344195Big neg for the other Ricci horses that they’re drafting in Benie Des Dieux here. I really really like this mare. Monster performance to give weight and a beating to Asthuria and Dinaria Des Obeaux at 2m when she really wants further. Her sire (Great Pretender) tends to produce horses who do better on a decent surface too.
Well worth a pop at 10/1 (or the derived place-only) I’d say. Apple’s Jade is a 160 horse and BDD is only about 8lbs behind with a P on my ratings.
EDIT: Actually just had a max e/w bet at 5/1 in the ‘without Apple’s Jade’ market. Let’s Dance has never even run to 150 and is 5/2f, VVM (was on the downgrade when last seen and hasn’t run all season 11/4). Bet of the festival right here.
February 27, 2018 at 14:06 #1344202LS3, that’s a right price.
I really do question Lets Dance ability wise, as you have.
VVM would need to come back A1 to challenge, and really that#s a big if considering shes been off so long.
Only thing that might ruin your bet of fez, is a late change to the Ryanair which is possible now they’ve 3 to run?

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!February 27, 2018 at 14:19 #1344206I agree with you 100% Lostsoldier.
Im On BDD any race at 14s from the start of the season but I agree that she’s value in the without Apples jade market. 5/1 is good enough for me.
Cheers for pointing that out
