The New One tends to do races like these, but he’s getting rather old in the tooth, has finished 2nd the last two times and has to give weight away here.
All of the above suggests to me that prices close to evens are simply rancid. Call me Lord strikes me as this year’s brain power. 9-2 is extremely tempting
January 19, 2018 at 00:52 #1337982As far as im aware he wont be running as there planning on running him left handed in the betfair hurdle unless hes abruptly changed his mind.
5/2 for chitibello interests me, on this ground at this track which he likes, not to mention im not a fan of the campaigning of TNO, hes had 4 hard races (some horses relish that) but im not so sure at his age that he can continue to keep churning out those performances in such a short space of time and ill probably take him on with chitibello, the weight swing means TNO will have to be at his very best to win.
January 19, 2018 at 01:55 #1337985I agree with you Ham, CH’TIBELLO for me too. I don’t think he gets the
recognition he deserves. When he beat My Tent Or Yours and Old Guard here back in November,
it was kind of written off in a few quarters and put down to bad ground. He was again in
front of MTOY (on good ground) in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton where he was 3rd, 2 1/4L
behind Yanworth, but was finishing best. He, imo, would have finished closer if he had
pushed the button a little earlier. Again finished behind Yanworth in the Kingwell Hurdle
at Wincanton, when he looked like he was going to win that one, just got pegged back in the
last 100 yards. His last time out, in the International Hurdle at Cheltenham he was making
a move up the inside at the last, when it was cut off. He had to wait until after the last,
where it was a bit of a sprint, this time finishing 3L behind MTOY. It sounds like I’m making
excuses for him, and maybe I am, but I think they are valid. He’s beaten MTOY, and finished in
front of him 2 of the last 3 they have competed in, and yet MTOY is as low as 12/1 for the
Champion Hurdle, whereas Ch’tibello is presently 40/1 (NRNB) with Betfred. I backed him a while
back at 50s, but I think 40s NRNB is probably an even better bet. If he’s to be considered for
the Champion Hurdle, he’s going to have to win this. If he does, the 40s will halve.January 19, 2018 at 02:09 #1337986As you may rememebr, I backed him for that race too and am a big fan of his.
Have to agree with you and Ham that he’s the one here. I’m a big fan of Call Me Lord but this is a step up from last week.
A decent race. The market is surely wrong with TNO so short.
January 19, 2018 at 04:02 #1337989I wouldn’t be so quick to write off TNO, these are exactly the kind of races that he just keeps on winning year after year. The brief scare he gave Buveur D’air at Kempton shows the old dog still has a bite. He proved in the International that he is well able to give Ch’Tibello weight, and a beating. Conditions will suit both. As ham mentioned his busy schedule might be a slight negative at his age, but maybe not, he’s always been as tough as old boots. I think TNO 6/4 is a better bet than CT at 5/2.
January 19, 2018 at 09:40 #1338002it’s they’re. and how do you know that?
January 19, 2018 at 11:03 #1338008Lol judge apologies for the error
“CALL ME LORD was excellent at Sandown last week, under top weight, and he will more than likely go for the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury. We are not sure if he is as effective going left handed but if we are going to look at Cheltenham we have to give it a go. We changed a few gadgets tack-wise on Saturday and Nico said he was as straight as a die, so if we have solved his tendency to hang we’ve definitely opened our options up a bit; we will obviously learn more after Newbury.”
Make of that what you will
January 19, 2018 at 13:30 #1338023As far as im aware he wont be running as there planning on running him left handed in the betfair hurdle unless hes abruptly changed his mind.
but surely haydock and newbury are the same way around?
anyway your obsessional knowledge of everything horse-racing related has put you right again as he’s not been declared. typical henderson just trying to land a touch, not interested in sending him the graded racing route.
January 19, 2018 at 15:46 #1338036Yep I remember well MOM that you’re a big fan of Ch’tibello too. I hope he puts in a good
display tomorrow and then hopefully he should be all set for the Champion Hurdle
January 19, 2018 at 17:31 #1338044Ch’Tibello getting 6lbs is too big at 15/8.
January 19, 2018 at 19:32 #1338066Was just relaying some info i seen judge
nothing more.January 19, 2018 at 19:43 #1338068The New One does chisel but I’d agree with the general view that the price differential between him and Ch’tibello/Clyne is too wide here.
Kudos to the Skelton clan for their placement of Ch’tibello through his career, very shrewdly targeted.
January 19, 2018 at 21:33 #1338081I agree, should be closer in the betting.
Expect The New One to drift in the morning and both Chtibello and Clyne to shorten.
The “1’s” against a horse’s name can sometimes lie. Is winning this race three years in a row that impressive? With second favourite Lami Serge disappointingly finding very little on run-in last year, TNO didn’t need to be at his best. All out to win with Clyne only beaten a length. Runner-up now 2 lbs worse off but even so, one’s 5/4 and the other 9/2.
Year before TNO started 8/13, giving 8 lbs and a 2 1/4 lengths beating to Rayvin Black.
First year TNO won it starting at 1/6. Beat Bertimont (I know, my thoughts exactly – who?) by 2 1/4 lengths, again giving him 8 lbs. TNO only staying on to lead in the final throws.
So although The New One has won this three years running, doesn’t mean he’s run well in doing so… Now I can understand the arguement he only does enough to win and has a good strike rate outside the best of company. But does that really make up for struggling to win three races his best form suggests should’ve walked? Also seems to me most of his better form in recent years has been in the first part of the season.
Chtibello was only 1 3/4 lengths behind TNO under these weights on his reappearance/latest start and didn’t get a clear run through either. TNO will probably need to run better than he’s done in his three victories here… And it’s possible there’s more improvement to come from the Skelton runner.
Clyne has been chasing, but no reason why he shouldn’t be back to his best here. Possible too that he might stop The New One getting his own way up front.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 20, 2018 at 11:35 #1338201I always get the impression that The New One hates this race, but therein lies the secret to it today: he knows how to get the job done which seems the exact opposite of his two key market rivals.
January 20, 2018 at 12:19 #1338226Both Skelton and NTD seem convinced their respective mounts want better ground, but both have form on heavy ground.
I’ve opted for The New One. I think in these conditions you want stamina, I’m not convinced Ch’tibello would have it for this race.
January 20, 2018 at 14:46 #1338281Brilliant, just brilliant. He may not be a Champion Hurdler but to win these races time after time, never giving in makes him a star.
January 20, 2018 at 14:48 #1338282Hard not to love him, he just won’t lie down will he!
