Sir Gino better had run in the Champion Hurdle.
Just to prove I wasn’t after-timing when I wrote on page 4:
“I took the 16/1 when it was available and have topped up with the 10/1 this morning. If he runs here, I believe he will go off much shorter.”
December 27, 2025 at 11:10 #1748670If Anzadam were to win on Monday then the Sir Gino chasing option becomes more tempting. I am hoping Lossiemouth wins that one.
December 27, 2025 at 11:14 #1748674“and if Lulamba wins the Arkle, we may never see Sir Gino over a fence again which would be a real shame.”
Sir Gino Champion Chase and Lulamba Ryanair next season would be an option should they wish to take it up.
December 27, 2025 at 11:33 #1748679They are not going chasing with Sir Gino after yesterday’s performance.

I think we can rest assured that Sir Gino will not be going chasing this season. Not that he would have even if today’s result had been different.
December 29, 2025 at 17:27 #1749010Apparently Sir Gino’s next run will be in CH; another cotton-wool job, one of the reasons NH racing has become a shadow of past glories.
December 29, 2025 at 17:29 #1749011Is he savvy enough for this , I’ll be brutal he’s hasn’t beaten anything yet , and before some says Golden Ace , I’m delighted for connections but sorry we know that was a very lucky day , a freak day
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 29, 2025 at 18:47 #1749021He’ll be fine i reckon, it’s the others like Lossiemouth and The New Lion that have the question to answer, and that is whether they are really 2 and a half milers rather than Champion Hurdle 2 milers.
December 29, 2025 at 19:04 #1749022Dreadful if sir gino doesnt run till CH. Seemed a throwaway comment and we can be a bit guilty of taking every nicky henderson soundbite literal. The Donnellys seem sporting, sure they’ll want him out again.
Strange CH. Sir Gino seems only horse with genuine top class 2m pace, but jumps them like a chaser. Could make it interesting although he’d be my idea of winner.
December 29, 2025 at 19:23 #1749026There are only three flights from the top of the hill. Unless he drops too far back early through making mistakes, which would appear unlikely, jumping is not likely to be Sir Gino’s Achilles heel.
As for not running between now and Cheltenham being “dreadful”, the horse has shown that he’s fully capable when fresh and, besides, who wants to leave the Champion Hurdle behind in the January/February mud somewhere? The horse’s wellbeing comes first.
December 29, 2025 at 20:06 #1749029Trainer update…
“He’s 100 per cent and he was in terrific form this morning,” said Henderson.
“I think the Champion Hurdle has to be the route and I’ve watched the race in Ireland today between the two girls (Lossiemouth and Brighterdaysahead) and I can’t believe they are both going to go for the Mares’ but I would be delighted if that’s what they want to do! He doesn’t have to run again and it’s looking the Champion Hurdle or nothing.”December 29, 2025 at 20:10 #1749030Give over. Course its dreadful if a horse is put away for cheltenham after one run. No reason whatsoever why he cant run again. Not even like hes going to the well in 3mile chases, hes cantering around in a 2mile hurdle.
We need good horses running.
December 29, 2025 at 20:21 #1749032No big deal going straight there, there is only one race left in the uk calendar to go for as I understand it and that would be taking on The New Lion end of January. Henderson known for Xmas then Festival with his star 2 mile hurdlers in their pomp i.e. Constitution Hill, Epatante.
December 30, 2025 at 08:16 #1749070“I’ll be brutal he’s hasn’t beaten anything yet”.
Kempton was his first run for 364 days after a serious injury which was initially thought to be career ending and possibly life ending. I think he is entitled to improve for the run.
He is also a lightly raced horse with the potential for plenty of improvement yet. If he reproduces his Kempton effort or builds on it, I cannot see the likes of Lossiemouth or The New Lion troubling him.
December 31, 2025 at 05:57 #1749164My last post had a misprint the last sentence should say “He doesn’t have to run again and it’s looking the Unibet Hurdle or nothing.”
I’m assuming he means the Unibet International Hurdle the race The New Lion is due to run in.
December 31, 2025 at 13:36 #1749173“who wants to leave the Champion Hurdle behind in the January/February mud somewhere? The horse’s wellbeing comes first.”
Ah come on it’s hardly carrying topweight in the Haydock Grand National trial.
Yes it’s possible that running against anything other than a very small handful of vastly inferior handicappers might dent his chance of winning at the festival, and if he got into a ding dong battle with The New Lion up the hill in the International, 2025 John Durkan style, it might take the edge off. Perhaps even enough to make the difference between winning and losing in March. So you’re right about that. But” The horse’s wellbeing comes first.”
Only as it relates to winning. Winning at the Cheltenham festival comes first. If the champion hurdle was run on tarmac or a 2m mile long bog snorkelling trench, he would run.December 31, 2025 at 23:45 #1749212“Leave the champion hurdle behind in january”
Come on 😂😂 one run a season before cheltenham is dreadful, absolutely dreadful nothing to do with the prior infection either, he’d have done this regardless.
The best part about it is, he wont be winning this, if your sitting on 10/1, youve done well, but hes 2/1 to make the race currently,
Lossiemouth will plaster him at cheltenham, her worst track is leopardstown and BDA’s best is early season leaopardstown, the only worry is if she’ll actually run as shes prone to a bad one at the drf, theyll run el fab against her and there has to be a chance he can improve on today, theres worse 50s pokes about than him currently
i despise the stable and i dont think he’s remotely good enough, the new lion at 5/1? Whos pricing this up…
Im assuming now Nicky is just accepting Constitution hill is gone at the game? 20s on the machine now. Hes still a better AP punt than sir gino
Need your heads checked betting him sub 3/1 currently
Majborough 110s, has to be a chance he comes back over hurdles given his jumping is butchering any hope over a fence
Sir gino absolutely will not win this 😂
