If WITD don’t like heavy going he did not show it in his last two runs. Montjeu loved the heavy going.
March 11, 2010 at 14:40 #281719I posted this someplace else but it belongs here.If WITD don’t like heavy ground he sure did not show his dislike in his last two races. He was flying in both of them. Montjeu, his sire loved the heavy ground.

March 11, 2010 at 15:04 #281723How dumb can you get?
March 11, 2010 at 15:32 #281727In fairness, in those last two races he was running against animals who wuoldn’t be fit to pacemake in a Champion Hurdle. He hates heavy going, but he outclassed the opposition. If the ground came up genuine gd-sft, he’d have place prospects on his best form.
March 11, 2010 at 16:34 #281734Why is everybody overlooking Khyber Kim?
Ignore what happened last season, just look at what he has done this term.
His form stands out,and his form is all at Cheltenham.
Don’t ignore what is already in front of you.
He’ll win going away.
Back him accordingly.March 11, 2010 at 18:18 #281749I’m not ignoring what’s infront of me, but you can’t ignore form from previous season’s either. In my eyes the horse could flop just as easy as win easily. He’s not bombproof by any stretch of the imagination.
March 11, 2010 at 18:57 #281755I can’t forget Khyber Kim dogging it out the back in last years County off 144 and can’t have him at a shorter/similar price than those who fought out the Champion a few days earlier.

Harchibald and Go Native aren’t twin brothers FFS they just happen to be trained by the same man.
More importantly, they also have similar limitations when it comes to getting home in the Champion Hurdle – as did previous easy Fighting Fifth winners such as Arcalis and Intersky Falcon.

Big Bucks
I wouldn’t be backing anything on the strength of ‘tactical pace’ – it’s rarely a factor in Champion Hurdles.
Not many had more than Binocular, but useless when it counted.March 11, 2010 at 19:58 #281771

That is your opinion, and fair enough – mine differs. I’d also argue the fact that Harchibald ‘didn’t get home’. He lost to a three time Cheltenam winner by a neck, under an arguably questionable ride, with various Grade 1 winners and a future Champion coming home behind.
Neither Arcalis nor Intersky Falcon followed up in the Christmas Hurdle either, which is not insignificant.
I like Go Native for the race – hardly an original opinion as he is favourite, but an opinion just the same.

They may not be twin brothers PC, but with this stable they have a habbit of being weak finishers. Not so extreme as Harchibald, but many of Meade’s horses have the same tendencies. The way they are trained and ridden has a lot to do with temperament. Muirhead is yet another that’s gone the same way this season. kandari, 5th in last year’s County. Jered travels well but sometimes doesn’t find as much as seems likely.
Value Is EverythingMarch 11, 2010 at 20:50 #281782How in physical possibility do you explain that Noel Meade trains horses to travel supremely well on the bridle before finding zilch when whipped / pushed by a pigmy? Harchibald was a one-off – in my opinion not ungeniune just not needing a human whipping him to run as fast as he can.

PC
I never ‘speculate’, that is a very firm opinion.
I said after the 05 CH, (when most on here were slagging both horse and jockey) that Harchibald didn’t get home, a view endorsed only recently by Paul Carberry.
I’ve seen plenty of ‘Harchibalds’ over the years, Go Native is just another, can’t ever recall one winning a CH though.March 11, 2010 at 21:20 #281790I think you are wrong about GN Reet. The difference between him and Harchi is that he finds plenty off the bridle but dosses in front. The burst of speed will be there for Paul Carberry, his job is to wait and use it after the last, not 2 out as in the Supreme. Two things beat GN- being in front too soon or failing to settle in slowly run races. I think the only horse with the ability to beat him if he quickens after the last is Solwhit and there must be a serious doubt if he’ll be at his best even if he lines up.
March 11, 2010 at 21:20 #281791if you go through GNs form his only defeats are in races run farcically slowly, when he pulls too hard. OK he won a slowly run Fighting Fifth but the difference there was that he settled.
