They should just revamp the day’s card and put the remaining seven in the 3.30 into the Grand Annual off 12-0 and let that be the 2m race. At least that would be interesting.
March 13, 2024 at 09:27 #1685225Thst is a great idea. I nominate QF to be put in charge of race planning.
March 13, 2024 at 10:12 #1685252Free bet accas – State Man/Lossiemouth/El Fabiolo. State Man/Lossiemouth/Ballyburn/El Fabiolo.
So it’s El Fabiolo for me.
March 13, 2024 at 12:19 #1685302Should have known we,d end up with 7 , I’m not deserting Boothill now ( in fact played again ) and I’ve also backed Gentleman e.w , hopefully he can stay on the premises when Do Fabilio goes past
March 13, 2024 at 13:27 #1685338“Would have fancied Edwardstone strongly had it been good-soft, but he’s never shown his best form in the mud”.
—————————–Glad’
Yes and no.
I’d agree Edwardstone’s career bests have not been in the mud, but he has not raced on heavy when at that career high.
Edwardstone has run only three times on heavy…
The first was after a long 200+ day gap – needed it.
The second he got no further than the fourth fence on chase debut.
The third time he won, putting up what was then an improved performance, his best up to that point… And took five starts afterwards to better that rating. So yes there is a possibility of being less effective on it, but am not sure you can expect anything more at the time he raced on it.That said… The performance at Newbury suggests to me that nowadays he’s best being able to dominate his field with quick and accurate jumping from the front. Heavy ground means he’ll need to go slower and probably won’t make as much ground at his fences… And also – as you rightly say – there’s the other front runners Elixir and Gentleman to consider. If they take him on then I hope Tom can find plenty of room on the arrowhead (clear view of his fences… Because Ed’ himself doesn’t seem to jump as well with cover. His best form even when tracking the pace would be good enough for second, it’s just he’s less consistent nowadays racing that way.
Sometimes punters and bookmakers make too much allowance for these things and imo remains value (almost the same price now as I took ante-post – with Jonbon). .
I have though laid a little bit back as it is not quite as much value as it would’ve been. But will still be my best result. I’ve also also backed Captain Guiness.
Value Is EverythingMarch 13, 2024 at 13:31 #1685339Boothill was my initial long term pick for this but I can’t see past El Fabiolo and I’m not sure the going will suit Boothill.
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
March 13, 2024 at 14:05 #1685370Boothill now out
March 13, 2024 at 15:41 #1685460Despite the heavy going I’ll go with Edwardstone at 9/1.
March 13, 2024 at 15:43 #1685464Hasn’t really paid to front run so far at the Festival so you wonder whether Edwardstone will take a lead rather than trying to lead like he did at Newbury
March 13, 2024 at 15:49 #1685469Come on Edwardstone, I’ll be more than happy if he comes 2nd or 3rd, should be a procession for the fav.
