Well, that was nice
February 10, 2018 at 15:32 #1341660Ok then altior.
Officially the best horse in training and by some way.
Next sprinter sacre???February 10, 2018 at 21:26 #1341691Impressive by Altior, but he already had the form in the book to win like that – encouraging though it is for showing his form at Cheltenham given the wind issues. Politologue has been picking up the pieces, winning lesser renewals of good races – ie Politologue has had little to beat previously this season.
I’ve been on Altior ante-post since last year’s Festival so hope he wins. Should be favourite; but don’t think there ought be as much in the current market between him @ 4/5 and Min 100/30… And Special Tiara looks good bet at the current 20/1 too, considering went off far too quick for his own good last time.
value is everythingFebruary 13, 2018 at 14:00 #1342029So douvan has been working well enough to have an entry at the weekend, if hes pretty much ready for the weekend and he keeps his work up youv got to imagine even if he mssed saturday, that hes far forward enough to appear at cheltenham.
February 13, 2018 at 14:43 #1342031Gowran will have bottomless ground on Saturday and it is 2 and a half miles. Hardly the ideal prep for a Champion Chase contender?
February 13, 2018 at 14:48 #1342032Sounds promising but we have been here before so a watching brief is needed, you would imagine they would be very keen to get a pipe opener into him before the QM but then you have to wonder whether a race on likely very deep ground with just over 3 weeks to go before Cheltenham may not be an ideal prep as opposed to going straight there with a fresh horse.
February 13, 2018 at 15:07 #1342034Not sure how much the ground matters, if mullins feels hes working THAT well, he would likely jump round without company and not have a hard race from the front (edit: and not be asked to many questions at the finish regardless)
I dont hink he will run but my point was if hes ready to run this weekend then you would think if they can keep him sparking hes a definite runner in 4 weeks time and the injury is no loger a factor
February 13, 2018 at 15:46 #1342043No matter how easy you win on heavy ground it can knock an edge off a horse especially if there isn’t a big gap between the next race and you are having your first run of the season (see Sizing John & Djakadam that ran well in the John Durkan and then both bombed out in the Christmas Chase a few weeks later).
The main injury seems to be behind Douvan but the fact that they had found no answer to the intermittant lameness issue is a bit of a worry as you could well imagine us being given updates that all seems well and then a day or so before hand it crops up again – everything crossed that they have smooth sailing from now on in as it could turn out being the reason of the meeting (and season) if they both bring their respective A games.
February 13, 2018 at 15:55 #1342046Remember Faugheen last year, lets not get ahead of ourselves over an entry.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!February 13, 2018 at 16:01 #1342050DOnt think anyones getting ahead of themselves, merely speculating that if hes far forward enough to run on saturday then youd imagine given another 4 weeks its leaning more towards running than not
And its not just an entry, mullins gave a good indication hes working well, what does that mean 4 days out? Well it means hes been back in full work… you can never take these things literally not just from mullins, from anyone, but the signs are certainly more positive than megative
I have 0 financial interest in douvan turning up, just speculation, it would be good for the race if him min and altior all ran
February 13, 2018 at 17:27 #1342069Please god let him run, I want 6/4 about Altior.
February 13, 2018 at 17:29 #1342070All true Ham, just saying its happened before, and the positive indications have been there before with Faugheen…..fingers crossed he runs, but wouldnt look into it until hes being saddled up!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!February 13, 2018 at 19:16 #1342076You wont get 6/4 on Altior. Even if Douvan beats A Toi Phil and Ball Darc by 20L in a 2 and a half mile slog on heavy ground around Gowran; Altior has just got up off the couch and beaten Politilogue, who has been cleaning up the Grade 1’s, in his absense. The English punters will be geting stuck into Altior, regardless of what Douvan does.
I’d say Altior 10/11, Douvan 15/8, Min 4/1, Politilouge 7/1 will be close enough to the SP’s if Douvan runs well this weekend.
Would be amazing if the real Douvan and Altior turn up at Cheltenham.
February 13, 2018 at 21:17 #1342093Min will almost certainly run in the ryanair if Douvan runs in the CC.
February 13, 2018 at 21:26 #1342094There will be some juggling if Douvan does arrive. Not sure on the prices if altior is against douvan, with both having just the one run.
