    I love your signature Basronic. I take it your a big Zafonic fan, just like myself.

    Those words you quote were from the brilliant Graham Goode if I am not mistaken. But for me his most famous words where when the horse was just about to take up the running in the 2.000 Guineas;

    "And Zafonic is pulling double, he is absolutely pulling double"

    I loved that comment, I loved that race, I loved the performance, I loved the commentary – brilliant.

    You’re right!! :D

    I don’t agree with everything Big Mac says but he’s right when he states that NO HORSE, past or present, would have beaten Zafonic that day. A beautiful horse with class to match – I’ve never seen a better mover. That race (with commentary) still sends a shiver down my spine. To think, he beat Barathea by nearly four lengths driven out – unbelievable. We never got to see the best of him.

    Such a sad loss as a stallion. I think he died in Australia a few years ago – he could have been one of the greats.

    I, along with thousands of others, backed Zafonic that day. He was impressive – but I don’t agree with Big Mac that NO horse, past or present, could have beaten him that day. I believe Brigadier Gerard would certainly have beaten him, as would El Gran Senor and let’s not forget Tudor Minstrel, the easiest of all Guineas winners. I know, It’s all about opinions. :wink:

    I agree with Himself. Brigadier Gerard certainly would’ve beaten Zafonic so would El Gran Senor and so would Dancing Brave.

    Anything else, questionable.

    I think one of the hardest things in racing is trying to compare the abilities or form of horses from different generations. In fact all it does is provoke more opinions lol.

    Fact – come 3.15, I don’t think there was that much between the going on the stand side or the far side – there certainly wasn’t at 5.30 when Sanders came home alone on the far side.
    I think it was Notnowcato’s injection of pace when he dashed over towards the hedge that ultimately proved the key to victory – whatever it looked like on tv, through bins, it was apparent that those on the far side never once got near to challenge once he’d quickened clear.
    This leaves me with a dilemna – did Authorized run his race? I didn’t fancy approaching Frankie after the race and enquiring whether or not he felt the same horse as he did at Epsom so we must look at some clues.
    Fact – I was very disappointed with the O’Brien horses in the paddock at Epsom, where they all looked very ordinary – they appeared in infinitely better shape at Esher on Saturday. This implies that Authorized merely came to hand quicker than the cream of the rest of this year’s 3-y-o crop and his dominance in the Spring reflected merely this, and not, as I’d hoped, that we had seen a true 3-y-o middle-distance champion. 21 years and still counting.

    With due respect Welsh Wizard :wink: I don’t think that can be described as a "FACT".!
