    Brighton was one of my old haunts in the late 70’s until 1990 as I knew people that lived at Hove.

    I do remember one of the locals describing Brighton as “London-by-the-Sea” – very accurate as it was always “buzzing” and always congested with traffic.

    It certainly had an edge in the evenings.

    I only managed to get the Brighton racecourse once and it seemed to be full of “day trippers” pissed-up.

    Some good pubs about down the side-streets serving-up hearty grub at reasonable prices back in those days.

    Appropriately enough, with Scarborough featuring prominently on this thread, if you’d asked this question 200 years ago the answer would have been Scarborough.

    Meetings took place on the town’s beach from the late 1700s to the 1850s.
