Stay Away Fay has shown nowt for a while now, at times looking a rogue.
Did Bryony go to ride work Stay Away Fay and found he’s working nothing like as good as he was in his prime?… And / or found he has turned into a temperamental so and so?
…If so then Bryony may have asked her French retainer to get her out of the ride.
Value Is EverythingApril 1, 2025 at 19:48 #1725349They pay her retainer , they decide where she rides …
April 1, 2025 at 19:49 #1725350If that is the case, it comes back to my original point of how does Nicholls feel about a jockey who owes her career to him walking out on him to ride in a minor race in France?
April 1, 2025 at 20:36 #1725357“how does Nicholls feel about a jockey who owes her career to him walking out on him to ride in a minor race in France?”
If it was Munir and Souede’s decision he’ll know she had no choice. If it was her decision …well, he also knows that she is not beholden to him foŕ ever and ever and ever. Shark Hanlon got Rachel Blackmore started, but she doesn’t owe him for ever either.
As well as the M+S French horses and some of Andy Peake’s French string (Sans Bruit’s owner), I notice that she has been put up on horses in other colours, often by Mickael Seror and Francois Nicolle, and has won races for them. She has rides in 5 out of the 7 races at Auteuil on Thursday; she’s getting outside rides, which she hardly ever used to do here except for her dad, Lucy Wadham and Neil King.
The meeting at Nancy is not a big one but maybe she views every meeting as a chance to catch a few more eyes and prove her commitment to French racing.April 1, 2025 at 23:11 #1725369I agree greenasgrass. Frost was hardly a priority booking for Nicholls prior to her move to France, so why should she prioritise a ride for his stable? That said, I’d have thought most Jumps jockeys would want any ride in the National that they could get if circumstances allowed.
Whatever the reason, I can’t see any reason to interpret Frost’s non-participation in a way that is negative towards her. As someone who has always admired her, I do think her absence is a shame though.
April 3, 2025 at 14:01 #1725528Now the decs are complete for Saturday, it seems that Ms Frost has no rides at any of the three mixed meetings in France that day.
April 3, 2025 at 14:42 #1725539“Curiouser and curiouser”, cried Alice.
I bet Nicholls is even more pleased at being told by text message now…
December 4, 2025 at 09:43 #1746592Treble at Fontainebleau on Tuesday. Two races worth 30’000 euros and one worth 38’000.
She has hardly been prolific but she still seems to make it worth her while.
Would love to see her back riding over here. Cant help but think its a huge failing on the part of British racing.
Regardless of everything i just think she’s a good jockey who is very good to watch.
December 4, 2025 at 10:10 #1746594Nice treble for her and the final winner Caitlin’s Court could be family owned with James Frost listed as the owner. It is her father Jimmy I guess.
The aggregate prize money she won is even better than for winning a G1 in GB or IRE. Hope she stays healthy.December 4, 2025 at 18:31 #1746609Bryony still isn’t receiving the amount of rides she deserves(although there is a lot less racing in France). However the prize money more than makes up for it.
€734k in the last twelve months. And that is only win prize money.
December 4, 2025 at 18:56 #1746616Sometimes makes you wonder how this country manages to convince any jockeys it’s a good idea to base yourself over here when you consider the money on offer overseas.
The disparity between here and France is staggering.
December 5, 2025 at 17:07 #1746669Robbie Dunne is still getting plenty of backing and a fair measure of success.
December 6, 2025 at 23:15 #174686716 winners from 168 rides in the last 12 months for Dunne.
A whopping £67k in win prize money.
December 8, 2025 at 12:08 #1747031Robbie Dunne doesnt really seem to have a stable behind him. I havent seen him enough to comment on his skills as a jockey but if he was good enough he’d be getting used more often. Didnt like what i heard of him during that trial. Regardless of anything else i would seem Bryony seems to be a better jockey and has actually suffered more, dunne’s career was average before and average after.
December 8, 2025 at 18:58 #1747051Dunne would also have earned around £37k from riding fees alone for those 168 rides.
December 8, 2025 at 23:38 #1747061For a 40 year old journeyman type I think that’s quite a lot of backing considering the fallout from what he did.
December 9, 2025 at 05:19 #1747065A lot of traveling costs for that 37k , Dunne is the definition of a journeyman , perhaps the behaviour shown to Bryony is because he’s aware he is that
