Is being beat by horses of a similar ability like Solerina,Macs Joy and Brave Inca on Soft/Heavy an inconvenience ?
Is beating inferior animals on Soft proof that you relish the conditions ?
There is a MASSIVE difference between the two imhaho and i’ll take the former anyday
I’ll also take superior Graded performances over a Handicap performace beating inferior animals and inferior Graded performances
Jebus, i love this great game

Hardy Eustace 1.85 Detroit City 2.22, other two need both the leading contenders to PU,fall, saddle slip or not turn up to win, so, Arcalis 100, Crow Wood 200

December 9, 2006 at 05:35 #33173Hardy Eustace won in such a hack canter last time – I can’t have the race as any guide to his current form – only his well-being.
I’m not a big fan of Richard Johnson – but this horse appears a good ride for him – and he should win comfortably tomorrow.
I’ll be happy to take 1/2 or bigger on DC.
December 9, 2006 at 11:10 #33174In another thread on DC I stated that this horse reminds me so much of Persian War – the best juvenile hurdler ever bar none, – but heck he has got a tough ask against Hardy Eustace in these soft conditions and with his stable not firing at its normal rate. I would not know whether DC can win and I certainly could not take odds on today. Good luck to those who do
December 9, 2006 at 13:26 #33175"…if Hobbs gets Tritonix beat I’ll be astonished…"
Would you believe it, 13/8 favourite and gets trounced, Ned Ludd finding 20 lengths and more from their last meeting.
Guess their money was on Kalca Mome.
December 9, 2006 at 15:25 #33176I still reckon the prices were about right:biggrin: . I don’t think the race told us much, as the slow pace may not of suited either of them. The 4lb certainly seemed to make the difference.
December 9, 2006 at 15:31 #33177On that performance, Detroit City won’t be winning the Champion Hurdle this season for me; race was falsely run, there’ll be no 4lb advantage and (hopefully) Conor O’Dwyer won’t ease Hardy Eustace into the last 50 yards before the flight whilst the leader wings it.

December 9, 2006 at 15:33 #33178It was a bizarre ride from O’Dwyer and for all his potential I cannot for the life of me see why DC is favourite for the Champion right now.

Not the best Champion Hurdle trial you’d ever see, but neither horse did much wrong considering the pace.
4lbs or not, DC still emerges with plenty of credit, he has shown he can mix it with the big guns, doesn’t need an out & out gallop, and still has potential to improve again before March.
Much as I love Hardy Eustace, I couldn’t ever see him beating DC on today’s show.
December 9, 2006 at 16:50 #33180i must have been watching a totally different race
Hope there’s an A v B maket for these two come March
I shall be going in the same way again
December 9, 2006 at 16:55 #33181Detroit City now 2/1 for the Champion Hurdle.
December 9, 2006 at 16:58 #33182I sure as hell would lay him at that price.
Not quite so sure about the 4.60 on Betfair, however.
December 9, 2006 at 17:06 #33183If race was in a few week i’d be laying at current odds,.
Come March, if he goes odds on to place, i’d seriously be thinking about place laying

December 9, 2006 at 17:27 #33184I think Straw Bear has best credentials of the young guns
very impressive debut in the Fighting Fifth imo
December 9, 2006 at 17:36 #33185Decent analysis of todays race from the RP’s BJ (whoever that is) imo
This first running really deserves leaving out of the formbook as they lurched round and only really started to race off the home bend, so any resemblence to a Champion Hurdle trial is purely coincidental
It still officially marks Triumph Hurdle winner DETROIT CITY’s successful arrival in the top league in beating dual Champion Hurdle winner Hardy Eustace but, as neither were seen to best effect off the crawl, the form has to be treated with caution and Detroit City still has plenty to prove
December 9, 2006 at 17:41 #33186As I said earlier I don’t think there’s any question the slow pace inconvienced both of them but the question is who did it inconvience the most? Well I thought Hardy Eustace got outsped by the younger horse and given HE was giving 4lb emerges as the best horse as he was closing at the finsih. However I wouldn’t like to guess how much improvement is left in Detriot City, but there is certainly more than in HE.
December 9, 2006 at 17:46 #33187However I wouldn’t like to guess how much improvement is left in Detriot City, but there is certainly more than in HE.
But HE wont be his main challenger for the Champion Hurdle…remember HE was freely available at 16/1 for the Champion Hurdle before the race. Shame Straw Bear did not run in this.
December 9, 2006 at 18:22 #33188I know Aidan and i haven’t said whether I am with or against DC for the chapion hurdle, I just meant in relation to HE as people have mentioned a match bet.
