It is about Brexit to some extent. The majority of the British political class (including the parliamentary Conservative Party) is opposed to Brexit. Plenty of them can never forgive Johnson and are determined to get their revenge, with help from their allies in the media. Getting a Remainer like Hunt in charge is the aim.
I do not like Johnson but let’s not be under any illusion about the motives of this attempted coup.
Even after Johnson survived the confidence vote, I knew he was in trouble. At PMQs, his own MPs have mostly been sitting there with their arms folded and stern expressions on their faces, giving him very little if any support. I think I posted here that he looked like a football manager who has lost the dressing room. That only ever ends one way.

Just needs someone – seen by the public as – new.Hunt would make a good PM, imo Gove would be the best Prime Minister, but I doubt either will get the public vote and the party needs to look at the next general election.
