Think you have the odds about right there ID. For Johnson to last another 16 months seems unthinkable but he is a stubborn ****. But I’m sure the Tories will eventually knife him in the back. The thing that may save him is who takes over? There are no outstanding candidates IMO.

Dettori may retire earlier but even if at the end of this season Johnson should be gone by then anyway.

At the prices, I would back Dettori.

Under the current rules, Johnson is safe for the best part of a year.

Dettori says he is going on to the end of next year but that might be bravado. Will he go on that long without good horses to ride? He is (rather arrogantly) only interested in the “big days” now but it is very difficult to get on Group 1 horses as a freelance.

If he is turning up at big meetings but leaving as an also ran, I can see him getting bored very quickly. As a racing journalist I once overheard said about him “He is only all right if you can get him interested.”

I’d read he wants to race against his boy akin to him riding against his Dad so he,ll be around for a bit yet , a farewell tour seeing him at some more mundane courses , how many would turn up at Hamilton to see him on a Sunday for example , as for Boris unlike Frankie his so called supporters are sharpening the knife again ….the conference will be interesting
