“He’ll be the first steeplechaser to reside at the Hall of Champions!”
I really like the idea of having a Hall of Champions where the public can visit star racehorses of the past. As far as I’m aware, we don’t have anything comparable in the UK. It’s possible to visit studs and racing stables on occasion, but that isn’t quite the same.
December 21, 2023 at 19:55 #1674599A lot of star TBs seem to end up at Old Friends (https://oldfriendsequine.org/) now, which is also open for tours. Though steeplechasers typically end up as foxhunters or pleasure riding horses if they are sound to ride and willing to slow down just a little.
Speaking of which, Ask Paddington has fully recovered from the serious injury he sustained back in May https://twitter.com/USASteeplechase/status/1737859424750817606
December 22, 2023 at 13:04 #1674649Weren’t they going to have a few retired horses at the new racing museum at Newmarket? It didn’t seem a big enough area to me to cater for them.

December 22, 2023 at 21:41 #1674685Living Legends near Melbourne has some Champions , ex Hong Kong horses too like Silent Witness and some exports from Europe that ran in OZ . Open to public daily .
As a side note Arazi lived out his days nearby to location at a Stud farm , lived into his 30s .December 24, 2023 at 08:32 #1674862“Elegant Escape has been retired now on non racing agreement”
Wishing Elegant Escape a very happy retirement. As a Welsh National winner who earned £370k and had a long career, he’s yet another horse whose retirement deserves much more fanfare than it has received.
I can’t see that the stable have mentioned it on their social media and, as has been mentioned on here before, some leadership from the BHA on publicising notable retirements is long overdue.
December 24, 2023 at 09:03 #1674865It’s good to read of these “Hall of Champions” establishments in other parts of the world, and I think something similar in the UK is overdue.
Moehat – I hadn’t heard there was to be a new racing museum in Newmarket, or expansion of the existing one. The town would be one of the more obvious choices for a Hall of Champions if space could be found.
Miss Woodford – That’s great news re Ask Paddington
December 24, 2023 at 12:00 #1674868My retirement present was a trip to Newmarket. That was 10 years ago and we were shown what was to be the site of the new museum: the one at the time being in a small building in the centre of the town. I’ve just googled the new one and it says it’s on a 5 acre site and you can get to see retired racehorses there. From memory I think it’s at a large house that belonged to one of the Kings mistresses but I could be wrong. I remember thinking at the time that it was a bit small to keep horses on but I suppose it had more land to it than I realised. I don’t understand why the National stud at Newmarket doesn’t home a few retired horses; I found the one in Ireland much more interesting and, of course, they have so many retired racing heroes there and it’s a delight to see them.

December 29, 2023 at 11:34 #1675524What a star of a racehorse Frodon has been. Amazing to think he was chasing in France as a three year-old, and still competing in Grade 1s close to his twelfth birthday.
Lovely to hear he is going to live with Bryony Frost. Wishing Frodon a long and happy retirement.
December 29, 2023 at 11:59 #1675528Frodon gave a lesson in leaping to his rivals on Boxing Day.
Happy retirement.Value Is EverythingDecember 29, 2023 at 13:27 #1675549Here here……he owed nothing to nobody and appropriate that he will now be looked after in his retirement by Bryony….a great partnership that will be continued on after racing.
December 29, 2023 at 16:57 #1675585I remember reading about him years ago, how he’s the sort of horse that loves his racing and training. Which means he’ll always do his best in a race even when his old legs will no longer let him do it, which could have led to tragedy. I was worried that PN was going to just use him to set the pace for his other horses in big races for the rest of the season. Bryony has now had two top class horses that suit her style of riding. I do hope she finds another one.
December 29, 2023 at 17:17 #1675586Great horse and a great ending
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
December 29, 2023 at 17:18 #1675587I was at the Newmarket horse racing museum this year, 4 racehorses there but none I’d heard of or I doubt anyone would have who didn’t follow low grade racing.
December 29, 2023 at 18:01 #1675593Did they have much space Cmap?
December 29, 2023 at 18:55 #1675601I don’t think Paul Nicholls would ever just run a horse just for pace for his others when he feels and knows it’s time for retirement. Just as he did with Clan Des Obeux he has retired Frodon at the right time
