Altior

Like mentioned earlier here. The novice hurdle win at Kempton was the beginning of the famous extra gear. What a great horse. Unbeatable for a few years. In hindsight that race against Cyrname was unfortunate, but still a fantastic career.
September 15, 2021 at 01:45 #1560540Part of me feels relief that this great horse has retired. His last couple of defeats showed slight but definite signs that his shining star began to fluctuate.
Altior is one of the elite and easily fits into my top 5 NH horses of all time. An almost infallible jumper and easy-going traveler blessed with a menacing overdrive after the last jump. The standout performances for me are (in no particular order) Supreme Novices 2016, Champion Chase 2018 and Tingle Creek 2018 … but God there are other fine ones too.
The much-anticipated match clash with Douvan will always leave the ‘What ifs’ had Douvan not fallen in the Champion Chase 2018. I’ve watched that race countless times and I’m adamant that, should’ve Douvan stayed on his feet, Altior still would’ve mowed him down on the run in.

Being retired after picking up an injury in the Ryanair in March.
A double whammy for Mullins with Monkfishes injury.
September 21, 2021 at 23:03 #1561159It seems somehow fitting that Min is bowing out so soon after his old rival Altior. He was amazingly consistent and never out of the first four up until his final two runs. He did very well to win seven Grade 1s; this was quite some achievement with Altior around. Wishing both Min and Altior very long and happy retirements.
September 22, 2021 at 07:29 #1561165Min is so pretty and light on his feet he will clean up in the racehorse to riding horse competitions!
In other news, happy retirement Sussex Road and good on Aytach Sadik for securing a new career for him:

Roksana unfortunately has an emerging suspensory injury that means we have to stop training. Given her age and broodmare potential she won’t return to training. She’s been a star. Thank you Roks x
October 7, 2021 at 07:23 #1562514No Speak Alexander has been retired.
October 7, 2021 at 08:42 #1562518Not much point keeping her in training. Shane Foley made sure she won her Group 1!
October 7, 2021 at 16:28 #1562556Shame about Roksana , not quite top class but she more than paid her way , wonder who’ll she’ll go in foal to
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
October 7, 2021 at 18:53 #1562570Agree she was not quite top class. But her connections can thank Benie Des Deux they have a Grade 1 winning mare to breed from!
October 7, 2021 at 19:30 #1562572Sad that we will not be seeing more of Roksana. She was a proper Grade 1 horse in my opinion, and very consistent.
She certainly got lucky when she actually won her Grade 1, but her three runner-up performances in Grade 1s at Aintree showed what a class act she was.
October 8, 2021 at 14:03 #1562640Nakeeta
Sometimes I complain about horses being retired too early but that’s definitely not the case this time.
A wonderful win in the Ebor followed by a great run in the Melbourne Cup but Nakeeta has been plummeting down the weights since and this should have happened a while ago.
Enjoy your retirement.
October 8, 2021 at 14:08 #1562642I agree Patriot but saying that he did me proud at the Ayr Western meeting last year

A fabulous horse who came back time and again in all the big races.
Like Nakeeta he went on for too long but deserves a great retirement.
October 9, 2021 at 10:37 #1562741Good news. I’m sure he will have a great retirement. He certainly deserves it. https://harryfryracing.com/horse-of-a-lifetime-unowhatimeanharry-retired-after-a-stellar-career/?fbclid=IwAR2901Pzq3YRlUsS_-alq-F7ptU26aJ9od43aU8jo9iweMij9If-niMd0xU
