Maybe tomorrow is his toughest task to date, I reckon Inglis will make him go but BJ is different class and should have too much for the rest in my opinion.

Jonjo isn’t one to overhype his horses, being far too laid back for that, and when he says about BJK "Without a doubt the best horse I’ve ever trained", then maybe we should listen?
When you consider that list includes Iris’s Gift, who won the Stayer’s by beating Baracouda at his peak, (which Inglis Drever didn’t), then maybe that explains why BJK has never had to find much off the bridle?

I notice connections of BJK have said that they will make sure BJK doesn’t have too hard a race today. So if it has to come off the bridle then its up the creek then? And if it beats Inglis Drever on the bridle then it really is as good as they say it is.

I just wanna know if they are ever gonna take him to a track other than Cheltenham or Aintree?

4/1 on betfair looks a massive overreaction.
Not sure about that DJ, could be the ground, could be summat amiss, but race run to suit BJK imo and was found wanting when asked THE question against better company

I think the one to take away from the race is Inglis Drever

I never expected for one minute that Inglis Drever would beat BJK and still not win the race. A decent performance but the winner seems to have stepped up on its form somewhat although it will have to do it all over again at the festival. Its still the Inglis for me for The World Hurdle. What price is he now?

After jumping the last he didn’t look very sound and at the top of the hill he looked lame in front…….. but when they showed him again a few minutes later walking down the walk way he didn’t look too bad.

Wouldn’t suprise me if they find him to be very stiff in front tomorrow.

That wasn’t the black jack ketchum we have seen before. He travelled strongly again but found nothing when the button was pushed.

Im not so sure that he will make the world hurdle……. he really didnt look sound straight after the race.

I still think he will win if he turns up again at the festival.

BJK was wrong today. He had stacks in hand of BB on their last running. The only way I could make that running right is if BJK is strictly a bridle horse. Today was the first time he has come off the bridle.

i think you have hit the nail on the head racing daily, he is strictly a bridle horse. people keep making excuses for him,
a, if the ground beat him why did he travel as well as anything else in the race, travel up strongly then drop away like a stone when asked to quicken up
b, this he was lame in front business, he was lame behind etc, fair enough if everyone had the same leg, but know one does!! i just think he was tired
c, he cant have run his race because blazing bailey beat him? BB is a 5 year old, who ran a good race over 3 miles last time out, and was 3 lengths behind him over an inadiquate 2 mile 5 at cheltenham.

imo, black jack was beaten because he doesnt have the guts to battle. he may be an extremely classy horse, but without battling qualities he isnt going to win the top races. i think it was written all over mccoys face that black jack isnt actually that good.

im sure there will be many that disagree with my opinion and iu will be interested in your views

BJK didn’t beat much in his novice year. If he had run in the Sun Alliance, it would’ve told us more.Today he was found out. If Asian Maze runs in the stayer’s, I reckon she’ll win.

either asian maze or hardy eustace could win it if they ran. black jack has been massively over rated i fear, by myself also as i have him in my 10 to follow! cant see him fighting his way up the hill in march, especially as his poor performance will attract more horses to the race
inglis drever giving blazing bailey 8lb and only beaten 4 lengths doesnt rule him out of it either as connections revealed he still isnt down to his ideal racing weight

    Welcome Rock Hopper

Just a pity such an incisive first post wasn’t made at 2.05pm.

I’m sorry but all of a sudden talk that Black Jack Ketchum is overrated is complete reactionary b*****ks
I’m afraid. It’s hardly as though his form was let down today is it. He hacked all over Blazing Bailey in the Relkeel. For arguments sake, if Black Jack had been withdrawn because of the ground today, he’d probably be trading at 2/1-on for the Stayers’ right now. I’m not saying he should be that short but to suggest he’s been ‘found out’ on the back of one run, in which he travelled like the best horse at the weights on ground he is unproven on if ludicrous.

when black jack ketchum beat blazing bailey, bjk just sat in behind bb, who had to make his own running, and this race was 3 furlongs longer. however i dont think this made a s**t of difference to the way bjk ran today, i think he is the harchibald of the stayers!
As for his form up until this season, he looked good, but what had he actually beaten and what have the beaten horses achieved since over hurdles?
black jack ketchum wasnt withdrawn today, and thats why he isnt 2/1-on. i think 5-2 is still too small on what he showed today.
i dont think he was particularly unsuited by the heavy ground, if you stopped the race 2 flights out you would say he was the definate winner, ive watched the tape over and over, and it looks to me that he hated having the other 3 horses upsides and downed tools when he couldnt cruize up the hill unchallenged.
im sure he has ability, and if the other horses had been beaten off he probably would have won on the bridle, but that wont be the case in the world hurdle.

Perhaps also worth noting that when BJK beat BB, BB had the advantage of a previous run too. Surely something wasnt right today….

    Stormonts comments interesting

I took 4/1 on betfair straight after the race and think 5/2 is still too big. I expected bookmakers to push him out to around 7/4. Anything over that is generous imo.

I agree with you DJ, i wish i was sitting on a 4/1 voucher for him now. If he turns up he will still win. I just hope all is well with him.

Dave, im not sure if you have ever worked with horses but it was obvious he was feeling something on his near fore (well, i think it was his near fore…….. cant remember now) but it was a fore leg he was lame on for a short while after the race.

We all know BJK isn’t a bridle horse. when McCoy asked him to go and win his race against BB last time he went on well and answered McCoy’s every ask.

Anyway, if he is a bridle horse, who is saying he wouldnt win the world hurdle on the bridle on better ground?
