Made a few quid last year on the BHB OOM so have gone in again with:
Kauto Star @ 7/1 ew for top horse
&
Richard Johnson @ 9/1 (now 7/1) for top jockey.
Any thoughts?
October 19, 2006 at 16:31 #80559Its not very helpful but I had a good long look at this and I have to say the honest answer is No. Nothing really stood out to me though I’m pretty sure the big stables will have a good crack at it.
October 19, 2006 at 16:38 #80560Have they revised the rules after last year’s fiasco with horses being taken to the well too often and being declared for inappropriate races e.g. Royal Shakespeare?
I imagine that kind of twilight (just below top class) animal will be aimed at it
October 19, 2006 at 17:03 #80561They’re tweaked them a bit.
Points now only go down to 6th instead of 8th & they’ve also introduced prize money for 2nd & 3rd overall instead of £50k for top hurdler & chaser.
i’m not sure if either will stop last year situation though…
October 19, 2006 at 17:15 #80562I think the bookies have Black Jack Ketchum priced about right for this. His races tend to pick themselves, namely West Yorkshire, Long Distance, Long Walk, Cleeve, Stayers and Liverpool.
Should he make the sort of impact expected in those races, he’ll be mightily difficult to beat. Hard to see a 2mile hurdler or a chaser over any trip being able to dominate their division to a similar degree.
It probably wouldn’t have made much difference last season had common sense NOT prevailed. Royal Shakespeare was being aimed at the 0-145 betfredpoker.com handicap chase on the Friday of the Sandown meeting, which ultimately cut up to six runners of whom most looked eminently beatable.

October 19, 2006 at 21:17 #80564There will be lots of horses running a lot more than BJK though. And you can’t assume he will win every race as most people seem to think.
October 20, 2006 at 06:58 #80565I read that Dickie Johnson is a steal for the jockey side of things @ 7/1.

October 20, 2006 at 07:08 #80566Looks like the 7/1’s gone
6/1 is still value (but they won’t let me have any more :( )
October 20, 2006 at 10:41 #80567I thought Royal Shakespeare was being aimed at the Grade 2 Chase that cut up to just the four runners that River City won.
Ach yes, my mistake. Both he and Monkerhostin were being aimed at that race, the Celebration Chase.

October 20, 2006 at 10:51 #80569Either one would be far from ideal for a chasing debutant:o
October 20, 2006 at 12:57 #80570No joy on the Net, but accomodated over the phone – thanks Mr Coral.
All I need now is TDK to be wrong….
October 21, 2006 at 17:18 #80571That makes two of us Perpetual!!!
I’ve had a little bit of Choc @ 33 too – I’m hoping he can register his first win tomorrow. Interestingly PP have gone up with a Top Jock market now too – they’ve stuck Dickie in at 3/1.
Also had a bit of Noble Request at 33, Mighty Man @ 10 and a little bit of Hoo La Baloo @ 50. I think BJK is a false price @ 3/1 and terrible value.
October 27, 2006 at 12:47 #80572black jack ketchem wont win the order of merit, even if he’s as good as they think, he wont run enough. jonjo will duck out of every race where there is serious opposition
October 27, 2006 at 14:48 #80573Dave, I’m not sure if he’ll duck out because of the opposition, but could well be as a result of the weather (NR tomorrow as too soft) and agree he’s no value for the OOM.
I’ve added No Refuge at a speculative 40/1 ew as my Hurdles hope.
October 27, 2006 at 15:04 #80574Agree with those saying BJK looks short now. Swerving 15 points at Wetherby obviously puts him up against it.
