Once again betting on Ahoy Senor. Haydock is quite similar to Aintree, that should help. I have my doubts about Grey Dawning, I think Royal Pegaille is the big danger.
Ahoy Senor 6/1
November 23, 2024 at 10:42 #1713665I’m a little bit sceptical about how good Grey Dawning actually is. Don’t get me wrong he was really impressive this time last year in the beginners chase on the card and Haydock can be a real specialist track so he’s always looked a likely sort for this but I don’t think the Turners last year was actually a very good race though and he’s stepping up into open company here. They aren’t the best of the staying chase division by any stretch so he may well bolt up and become a genuine Gold Cup contender but at the same time there’s some useful horses in here and Royal Pagaille loves this place and he’s got his conditions. I assume Hewick is a doubt on account of the ground because if he’s not with him already having race fitness under his belt and being a very good horse on his day, his price is a bit of an insult.
November 23, 2024 at 11:30 #1713680Capodanno 25-1 ew, he’s not as good as these, but surely not that far off them that he should be this price
November 23, 2024 at 12:00 #1713693Grey Dawning is the likely winner and has been played however Bravemansgame is to big as long as the ground first get to testing so he,s the e.w play
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
November 23, 2024 at 12:05 #1713698Hewick, reunited with Gavin Sheehan for the first time since the King George, must go close. 15s with Hills.
November 23, 2024 at 12:51 #1713716If you’re familiar with the Haydock going in testing conditions, I think this could be too much of a test for Hewick. He is a tempting price, but the soft ground might find him out in the closing stages.
November 23, 2024 at 13:14 #1713724Hewick N/R
November 23, 2024 at 13:23 #1713730Swapping to Bravemansgamenow Hewick is a NR. He’s been beaten in the Charlie Hall before now so I’m not too concerned about that. Wasn’t that far behind RP in last years renewal. If the blinkers can help him and hes not totally broken now he’s a better horse than quite a few of these in front of him in the betting.
November 23, 2024 at 13:26 #1713731The Real Whacker N/R
November 23, 2024 at 13:37 #1713733With The Real Whacker out, I’ll have a go on Limerick Lace. I’m not sure what connections’ game is, but she’s proven on the ground and trip and getting 7lbs in those conditions could prove very useful indeed.
I’m as big a Royale Pagaille fan as any, but I must say even with track, trip and conditions to suit; I’m not sure I can go in at the prices.
November 23, 2024 at 13:45 #1713734Probably be proper heavy ground by off time (even if not officially).
So it’s pointing to Royal P’.Value Is EverythingNovember 23, 2024 at 14:02 #1713743The Whacker out so rooting for Grey Dawning.
The more I know the less I understand.
November 23, 2024 at 14:47 #1713770Royal Pagaille fav now.
This is a surprise to me. I love the horse but he’s 10 now. The ground is what people are backing him for. But Grey Dawning is perfectly happy on heavy ground.
Admittedly Haydock heavy is a different breed of heavy to anywhere else. This is certainly going to be testing. Bad news for my Grey Dawning king George bet. Won’t be running in that now regardless of result today in my opinion.
November 23, 2024 at 15:02 #1713776With Hewick and The Real Whacker coming out and Ahoy Senor’s connections saying he’ll be dropped out like last time… And Grey Dawning not wanting a severe test of stamina… Is Bravemansgame going to get a soft lead here?
Value Is EverythingNovember 23, 2024 at 15:03 #1713777Come on Senor!
Value Is EverythingNovember 23, 2024 at 15:14 #1713779WD winners.
That was gruelling. How much will the race have taken out of them, though?
November 23, 2024 at 15:15 #1713780Great race that. This race just lends itself so well to specialists. Bristol was a different horse here, RP seems to be the same. Not sure if it was fitness but Grey Dawning seemed to fold a bit there, wouldnt be sure on him for a Gold Cup stamina wise.
