Very unbecoming of an Imperial Commander to laugh at his sporting rivals; but then none of us are perfect I suppose.

OK, you guys were right about What A fiend. If that is as good as he is….OH DEAR.

I thought Imperial did the job well but I would not jump on him for a Kempton victory. Yes, he

    could

be good value…but I wouldn’t want to take the risk with his previous demise there.

    Tidal Bay is bizarre.

Imperial Commander supporters might want to be wary –

    Record at Cheltenham – 1400114111
    Record elswhere – 130P20U

Just wondering how many of the record elsewhere were flat tracks or right handed? Can probably discount those straight away.

And the record at Cheltenham is even better than it looks, cause since going chasing his only loss there resulted in a year off injured. In other words unless he’s injured, he’ll win there.

I’m not an Imperial Commander fan by the way, but I am a fan of winning money and I’ll be backing him for the Betfair race.

Thankyou William Hill I used your money for a top night out!

God knows how good Tidal Bay could be, if only he could be taught to jump.

I think its more of a case of teaching Tidal Bay to race from the start to finish, bad jumpers dont win Arkles in my opinion. Hes a complete nutcase, who will probably tail himself off next time out.

Tidal Bay’s poor technique has been a feature ever since his early days over fences, and yesterday was little different in that he lost ground at any number of fences, mainly to horses with inferior engines.
Give him a soft ground hurdle over a distance of ground again, this season, and we’ll see how little of his problem is actually mental.

Fantastic from Imperial Commander. Jumped well and although I hate to admit it, never looked like losing. Considering Kauto is my massive ante post return in the King George, it looks worrying.

If Nigel Twiston Davies is serious about sending Imperial Commander to Kempton on Boxing for a second tilt at trying to win the King George, then he really does need to have a word with himself.

The horse ran abysmally last year and I can see no reason why a fast run race round the sharp Kempton circuit should suit him any better this year.

A complete waste of a journey and entry fee, in my opinion.

Just as a postscript to the race, have to question where our favourite clerk of the course got his going description of GS, G in places. Looked to be significantly softer than that.

Is it not safe to assume that Imperial Commander is a better animal this time round? Anyway, after winning a Gold Cup, and now the Betfair Chase, I dont think the entry fee will be a problem!! ;-) Kempton was never Best Mates track, but he did win a King George, and I really dont think Imperial Commander has anything to lose. If he wins, we’ll say, gamble came off, if he loses, we’ll say, sure Kempton isn’t his track!!! We should be applauding Twiston-Davies for not being afraid to take on Kauto Star at his favourite track, this is what the sport is all about.

Ah Aido1, your Corinthian spirit does you credit. :)

I see where you’re coming from but, let’s be honest here – Imperial Commander should be aimed at The Lexus, where he has more than a serious chance of winning, instead of trying to take on the three mile speedsters round Kempton on a cold and frosty afternoon.

Of course, there is the possibility that Nigel views the race as a pre Cheltenham public gallop for his Gold Cup hero.

Maybe so mate, but wasn’t Imperial Commander ‘speedy’ enough to win a Ryanair Chase over 2m 5?? And although Im Irish, coming over to race aginst the best staying chasers in Ireland, is the easy route, as the best will be lining up at Kempton. As Ive said, nothing to lose :-)

Going to Leopardstown with Imperial Commander may be the easier option for Nigel Twiston-Davies – however, I would suggest it is the more sensible one and dare I say, probably the more profitable one.

Imperial Commander’s Ryanair win was round Cheltenham: his favourite course – and more importantly, a left-handed one – which we all know, tends to bring out the best in him. Imperial Commander doesn’t win going right-handed – hence why Twiston-Davies is rarely tempted to take that route.

He finished sixth in last year’s King George ( beaten 72 lengths ) and only an outright optimist would hold any real hope of him troubling Kauto Star on his favoured territory.

    I rest.

Won’t get a bigger Kauto fan than myself but Imperial Commander is an obvious danger at Kempton.

He made Nacarat look very ordinary as did Kauto Star and no one will convince me had the Betfair been run at Kempton he wouldn’t have done exactly the same thing.

Kempton not suiting Imperial Commander is a nonsense. There are two reasons why IC ran the way he did there. The first one was he took the second fence by the roots and the second one came from Paddy Brennan himself……Nigels horses were so wrong they shouldn’t have been on the gallops let alone a racecourse.

I’ve backed him EW but Kauto Star is once again my main Xmas bet. If IC get’s a place I will be over the moon so it’s too late for me to take my own advice.

I’d wait and see how Nigel’s Horses are running around Xmas and if there isn’t a drastic drop in his figures I’d hammer the horse for a place on Betfair or back him EW.

NTD brought some nutrition experts in who reckon the rereason his horses go off at Xmas is down to their diet.
Theree new diet according to them will keep them going longer and they should show more consistancy in their form.

If they are right you might well see a different Imperial Commander this year at Kepton which should make it a very interesting race.

Can’t wait for the race though as Kauto Star going for 5 King George’s is absolutly amazing.

Imperial Commander has only competed four times on a right-handed course, so the debate as to whether or not he is as effective going that way is still inconclusive.

His career figures thus far do tell us, however, that he is a far better animal when fresh. Below are his respective form figures (under rules) when returning from an absence of six weeks or more, or less than six weeks.

    – six weeks

    4631465U

    (beaten on average 45L)
    + six weeks

    117111P211

When you take into consideration the above data and that two of his poorest performances have come in the King George, Imperial Commander has a mountain to climb to beat Kauto at Kempton and may struggle to reach a place.

I don’t believe Imperial Commander has a problem with going right handed, it’s more with sharp tracks, imv. He was able to obviate that somewhat at Haydock by forcing the pace, and the softening ground certainly didn’t hinder him, but he still ran some way below his Cheltenham form.
Kauto Star apart, if the ground’s as good as it generally is for the KG meeting, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Nacarat turn the form around completely.

Maybe so, but as I alluded to before, surely Imperial Commander is a vastly different and improved animal from 12 months ago in any case? I do admit, I find it hard seeing Kauto beaten at Kempton, but even a respectable 2nd place would not be a wasted journey for Twiston-Davies & team, plus, don’t a bumper Christmas crowd deserve the chance to see their Gold-Cup Hero in the flesh? Not all can get tickets for Cheltenham!!! :-)
