At odds-on, even though he may need the race?

Nacarat is clearly the value bet here. He jumped like a pig at Aintree but with a clear round had the beating of What a Friend…and he’s more than twice the price for Saturday’s encounter. Yes please.

He won the Paddy Power 08 off a year long lay off and came 2nd to Kauto in this first time out last year (Kauto had had a race), I don’t think he’ll need the run and the yard are in form so I ain’t worrying about that either.

I can’t see anything to stop him but Planet Of Sound would be my bet if I was trying hard to look elsewhere.

Imperial Commander should win doing handsprings. He was only just pipped on the nod, in the race last year, by Kauto at the peak of his game.

Famous last words. Not that I can afford to bet at thsoe prices. Though, if I remember, I may do him in doubles with horses I fancy…. so they all go down.

Imperial Commander has an appalling record around sharp tracks, and his 2nd in this last year owed a lot to his not being tested early, in a race that didn’t develop until the last 6f, (Kauto’s first run of the season, btw).
Given goodish ground, Nacarat is well capable of of serving it up from the off, and the result might differ considerably from what a 2 stone advantage over the rest would suggest.

It would make your day to see the mighty

    Imperial Commander

get turned over by a horse that wouldn"t get within 20l of him around Cheltenham reet but if Nigel has only Gold cup aspirations for the champ then there is every chance he will be well undercooked, however even a well undercooked Commander would canter past this lot, unless of course

    Albert runs a

Not too far from the track here…it has been raining very heavily for 6 hours.

Heavy rain might mean Planet is a non-runner but Silver is. Anyway it looks like a four horse race so I am surprised some bookmakers are still offering 1/5 odds first 3. WAF looks nailed on for first 3 and is available at 7-10 for the place.

WAF could win at 7-2 if his operation boosts him. Surprised there has been little media comment on this.

I must buy a baseball bat and skelp TAPK over the nut with it…then tell him again the horse wont run

Couldn’t help but be impressed by Nacarat but Tom George did say and was proved right he’s abetter horse on faster ground which puts me off him.

Not that I’m in any other camp than the favs but Nacarat can go one helluva clip. With last years King George in mind he’ll be out to have Imperial Commander going a half stride faster than he’ll be happy at. He’s going to go there 100% fit and that is my one worry.

What makes me so adamant Imperial Commander will win though, is NTD was training him with a view to taking on Kauto Star so he set him off earlier than normal to ensure he was 100%

If Padddy Brennan gets him into a rhythm and can use Nacarat rather than Nacarat use him he should win with ease.

Put £20 on What a Friend today at 7/2 and £10 on Nacarat at 8/1, cracking value.

Put your money where your mouth is Mr Fist! :D

I’m not that far from the track and it’s clear blue skies here now and supposed to stay that way. The ground won’t be that deep and his cracking run behind Razor Royale when defending his RP Chase crown was on soft. Currently 10.5 on the machine – cracking price.

I agree about his run and was surprised by Tom Gerorge saying he would act better on good to fast ground, but he did!!!

I’ve got a feeling What a Friend could cause a shock in this.

At 7/2 he is worth a punt to prove he is Gold Cup class.

Bet a few of you will be doing the ol’ MasterMinded/Imperial Commander double

Imperial Commander has an excellent record fresh. Stable is in good form. Some seem to think he needs Cheltenham, but Twister Star’s second to Kauto in this race last year was at the time his best performance.

Not certain What A Friend’s form at Aintree is all it seems. Carruthers, Calgary Bay and Imperial Commander all had hard races at Cheltenham and probably below form at Liverpool. Carries head high in a finish and has had a breathing operation. Sometimes finds little in a finish.
Nacarat jumped poorly behind What A Friend at Aintree. Charlie Hall win proves effectiveness going left-handed and may be fair value here.
Planet Of Sound proved he stays 3m1f at Punchestown, but that was a slowly run race with several top horses there under-performing, including Denman and Cooldine. Obviously has potential, but just what he achieved remains to be seen. Hasn’t always jumped fluently.
Tidal Bay is a rogue these days, has ability but does not want to show it.
Chief Dan George not good enough.
    Ditto Atouchbetweenacara.
My main worry is that Nacarat, Imperial Commander and Planet Of Sound might take each other on and leave it to What A Friend.

Do make Nacarat marginal value, but Imperial Commander’s price gives the best edge.

    My 100% book:
    Imperial Commander 60% 4/6, What A Friend 15% 11/2, Nacarat 12.5% 7/1, Planet Of Sound 10.5% 17/2, Tidal Bay 1.75% 56/1, Chief Dan George 0.2% 500/1, Atouchbetweenacara 0.05% 2000/1.

It would be a major shock if What a Friend wins this, he may be the most overrated chaser in training. So surely 7/2 is an appalling price. I want to be with Nacarat but feel the play now is just to lay Nicholls horse.

I like Albertas Run to beat Masterminded tomorrow but yes I think Imperial Commander should win his race. How many of these will get near him if he produces last years run? The answer is 0.

I still fancy Imperial Commander for the Gold Cup and it’s not at a bad price I think.
