Given the race is being run at Saratoga rather than Belmont Park due to the latter track’s ongoing renovation; and given it will be run over 10 furlongs rather than a mile and a half: how can it still be considered the Belmont?
June 8, 2024 at 22:29 #1697426The race predates the existence of Belmont Park (both it and the track are named for the same man August Belmont) and was ran at Aqueduct for a brief time as well. It’s been ran at distances between 9 furlongs and 13 furlongs, left- or right-handed, at different times of the year, and it excluded geldings for a time. Most older American races have similarly meandering histories.

Measured Time for Appleby in Manhatten Stakes very good , he got the 1 2 as well .
Belmont will be pretty impressive after its rebuild i would have thought .
As regard Aqueduct whenever i see mention of that course i think of Pebbles and Pat Eddery ,what a ride . My inderstanding is it looks a little shabby nowdays but may be wrong . - AuthorPosts
