I remember studying Van Der Wheil’s methods about twenty years ago. I think a lot of patience and study was required. Nevertheless, interesting stuff.

July 21, 2007 at 14:44 #108727Although I read the forum posts each day it is some time since I contributed as not so many of the membership have a great deal of interest in systems. However, I though I would post today with the jumps having the best class race by far, not only that I have a proposition for any VDW fans.[/color:3t9vjlj2][/size:3t9vjlj2]
Market Rasen 3.40
stars
5 Ballycassidy – 5th LTO -37L, weakened. Form retention?
4 Iron Man – (C&D) Won LTO +1.75L, battled to win flat. Conditions suit*
4 Hoola Baloo – 2nd LTO -7L, soon brushed aside. Top weight?
4 It takes Time – 2nd LTO -hd, challenged and headed. Veteran now?Not an easy race to assess, but my selection would have to be Iron Man even though up in £class and not considered first string of Bowen’s 5 runners in the race.
The proposition? I have in my possession a postcard signed by C. Van der
Wheil sent from Hammerfest, Norway in 1994. If anyone wishes to make a reasonable bid for it, they can have it, all money to go to the Injured Jockeys Fund.[/color:3t9vjlj2]July 22, 2007 at 13:47 #108820Where are all the VDW enthusiasts? Not died the death at last.[/color:2jtqclr0][/size:2jtqclr0]
Newton Abbot 3.30

5 Investment Wings 2rd LTO -2.5L, stayed on took 3rd. Capable and could go well*
4 Nawamees 8th penultimate -23L, chased ridden weakened quickly. Infrquent winner?
4 Cottingham 2nd LTO -8L, soon ridden no impression. May struggle at the D?
4 Croix De Guerre 4th penultimate -21L, mistakes ridden weakened. Each-way chance at the weightsNowhere near the class of yesterdays race and hacp hurdle races are the most difficult type to assess of all races IMO, so not a race to lump on. Couple coming here off the Flat but I would have to go with Investment Wings.

I wouldn’t lose heart as the majority of members – and guests, would rather just read posts.
The "systems section", I can assure you, receives a lot of visitors.

July 22, 2007 at 15:14 #108827Hello All
VDW is of interest to me, but time is very short at the moment. Might try to work a few races out after the summer holidays.
As for today, Cottingham 3.30 and Makishma 3.35 Are of interest to me. But no bet today.

Ps Has anyone ever used Pro Punter Gold ?July 23, 2007 at 01:14 #108875Hi spranger .. no I have never used pro-punter gold, is it any good and is it free?
That’s a good offer Formath, very kind of you.
July 23, 2007 at 17:30 #108956Hi Dave Jay
Yes the software is free, but you have to put in your own data. Downloads are available, but will cost. I have just started using it so cant comment on how its long term performance has done. I was hoping someone would have some recorded results. It reminds me of basic VDW imputs so I will be looking at it in hope that in the long term it could save me a lot of time.

6 Nobilissima Won LTO +shd, led headed, rallied. Good effort*
5 King’s Bastion 3rd LTO -2L, outpaced but ran on well. Weight?
4 Dream Scheme 8th LTO -6L weakened. Filly that has to prove herself?
4 Royal Rock Won LTO on AW +1.5, led, in command. Ground? With regard to £Class in this race as 3-y-o generally don’t have much of a record it may be best to use SF. It didn’t make a great deal of difference except Royal Rock doesn’t figure. My selection has to be Nobilissima.

spJuly 24, 2007 at 19:36 #109095Hi Formath,
I’ve just had a browse through the VDW letters on your website. They were quite interesting, but form study has moved on a way since those letters were published. It does seem that a lot of the claims of winners made in the letters are questionable in the light of what we know is possible. I don’t think that VDW ever tested his methds by posting selections in advance of the racing, but seems to justify himself by looking at results that fitted his approach.
No disrespect to the man, though. He had some good ideas for those days of limited information. I’m sure that if he was still here, he would be making some very interesting contributions on the forum.
July 26, 2007 at 00:39 #109241Maybe there are a few things in VDW methodology that we are looking at, but reading wrongly. It could be that there are other answers to sentances that VDW wrote but didnt elaborate on. Who knows what we might find if we keep looking? I for one will keep digging.
One person said that VDW put up a lot of examples and that there was a common thread running through them if you could find it?
spJuly 26, 2007 at 07:19 #109247Spranger how are you getting on with your VDW methodolgy are you finding it complicated or are you having a nice stream of winners?
Are you using a staking plan in combination with VDW?
July 26, 2007 at 14:04 #109289Hi Onefurlongout
In answer to your question. I tend to pick out parts of VDW that I find interesting and spend time looking at them in detail. Trouble is that the parts I look at are not easy to dig out. So I look at modern day examples and see if the same applies today as it did all those years ago.
From my initial findings I would say nothing has changed.
I havnt been betting recently, instead I’ve been buying and selling and taking a profit.
I was tempted to have a forecast on Shevchenko and Perfect Star, but I refrained from doing so!!!!!

6 Gypsy Baby 1st LTO +5L, shaken up to lead, soon in command easily. Tougher task today
4 Cute 5th penultimate race, headway stayed on, not pace of leaders. Dropped in class
4 Yasinisi 1st penultimate race +hd, effort 2out, led, held on. Should be more to come.Very late with this post, so I will just say Gypsy Baby for me because of the manner of the win.
July 26, 2007 at 20:22 #109317Formath,
I had Shaker , Muthabara and Gypsy boy, ended up going for Shaker
July 27, 2007 at 00:23 #109341Evening all
After my holidays I’m definately going to subscibe to Inform just to save a lot of time on the VDW ratings. Find the site a bit dodgy because at first glance i thought the draw was level with each runner.
spJuly 27, 2007 at 14:00 #109407short list of 2 for the first at ascot – Baltic King and Balthazaars gift, went for Baltic king
