“like when Min ran he ran Douvan too”
They were in different years, Douvan winning it in 2015 and Min finishing runner-up to Altior the following year.
Interestingly, Mullins ran three others behind Douvan and two more besides Min.
December 21, 2022 at 10:33 #1627648Apologies yes it was the QMCC that Min and Douvan both ran in.
December 21, 2022 at 10:40 #1627650My brother once told me that a few years ago, masked men with guns broke into Willies yard and held him hostage.
Police surrounded the yard. Willie said to the masked men. “look, I have money, you can take that, take the jeep, you’d get past the police, just don’t hurt me”
One of the men got up, walked over to Willie and whispered in his ear “we don’t want your money or jeep”
“what do you want?” replied Willie
The man raise his voice “WE WANT to know which bloody races your horses will be running in at Cheltenham”…
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
January 1, 2023 at 01:06 #1629195Hermes Allen is 4/1 best for this after winning the Challow impressively.
He’s a nice sort, I was at Stratford when he won, but I’m not sure what he beat at Newbury, I think the ground was more testing then it’s likely to be at the Cheltenham Festival and for me the time was nothing special – Jupiter Du Gite impressed me more on the clock tbh.
I’m still happy enough with my bet on Gaelic Warrior.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 1, 2023 at 21:49 #1629337But you can’t expect a decent or quick time on ground like that Ian.
That was a very strong challow yesterday and he’s spanked them all good and proper.
It was a very good race he won at Cheltenham and the form was boosted today by Weveallbeencaught winning. Ignore the presence of a 66/1 shot in 2nd and it’s 23 lengths back to the 3rd in a race of lightly raced prospects as well.
Everything I’m seeing and the form book is telling me Hermes Allen is special.
January 1, 2023 at 22:23 #1629342Challow was run 5 secs faster than the earlier handicap, won by Blenkinsop carrying 10.6 – 15lbs less than Hermes Allen. He was hugely impressive, I thought.
January 1, 2023 at 22:32 #1629344Tiz, i’d question whether the Cheltenham race was “very good”.
Music Drive isn’t up to much.
Hubrisko same.
Twister’s is a massive work in progress and more one for the long-term.
He thrashed them still, but i’m not sure it was a great race.
As for yesterday, the ground really went against Joyeux Machin and i thought he’d go close.
Would doubt he’s beaten a whole pile there either. To be fair to him though he was racing himself on that sort of ground for the first time and we don’t know how much he enjoyed it, but he still got the job done impressively.
The Lawlors will help the Irish pecking order for this race. I liked Grangeclare West quite a bit, probably more than GW.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 1, 2023 at 22:38 #1629345Can you compare times properly on a day like yesterday?
How much softer was the ground at 3pm than 1:50 with the heavy rain falling?
The 2nd rated 125 been winning at Hexham and Worcester
As jack said joyeux machin has clearly run no race, neither did crambo and Skelton rode Vicki vale like a clown (will have contributed to the time also)
He won well, but I see nothing to suggest it was a strong race on paper
January 1, 2023 at 22:52 #1629349On a furlong-per-furlong basis Jupiter Du Gite’s time was similar and he’s two years younger.
But FF makes the valid point the ground may have deteriorated further by the time the Challow was run.
TC, a horse can do a “good time” on Heavy ground, or indeed any ground, a time is defined as good or otherwise relative to other times on the card the same day.

January 2, 2023 at 09:02 #1629380I’m just glad I’m not married to some of you lot! I don’t know what it takes to impress you if Hermes Allen didn’t!
Some of your wives and girlfriends must be having to treat you like a holy Roman emperor on a daily basis to avoid the rath of the great Caesar Ian Davies for example
January 2, 2023 at 09:26 #1629383What wrath?
I was just pointing out that, for time students, “fast time” doesn’t automatically mean breaking standard or the track record.
Bravemansgame was 4.35 seconds slower than standard at Kempton, but it was still a decent time relative to everything else that ran there that day.
I’ve been studying race times for 40 years – one of my school friends went on to work for Phil Bull at Timeform – but I can always pretend none of that ever happened and I don’t have views on it if it makes me seem less like Caesar?
Anyway, I WAS impressed by Hermes Allen – but some people are simply comparing his time with Blenkinsop and I’m just saying: What about Jupiter Du Gite earlier on?
And FF has made the best counter point IMO by saying maybe the ground was still quicker then.
It’s a good debate IMO.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 2, 2023 at 10:45 #1629399I can’t pretend to be remotely interested in times Ian I have to confess. For exactly the reason final furlong mentions. Way too many variables in ground, rail placements, weather conditions and on the racing line a horse takes. Especially in a jumps race over 2m+ I PERSONALLY think race times are as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.
January 2, 2023 at 11:22 #1629403You’re perfectly entitled to that view, TC.
They aren’t the be all and end all for me, but I always take a look and sometimes it provides a betting edge by doing so.
Anyway, I can’t waste my day arguing with you – I’ve got a Roman Empire to (mis)manage.
Bennus Bernankearum, my Chief Pro Consul, has identified a country called Russia? for our legions to invade.
Followed by somewhere called USA?
Bennus says it will be one Hell of a win double to get up in January.
What can go wrong?

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 2, 2023 at 13:33 #1629414I’m with Cider with this one particularly with novices. Dysart Dynamo was impressing some of the clock watchers last season, but it made no difference at the Festival, he wasn’t up to it.
January 2, 2023 at 18:06 #1629435Mike Dysart fell and who knows where he’d have finished- no disgrace if finishing 2nd to the best horse in training? So the “clock watchers” can’t be too heavily criticised for him.
Tiz i’ve said above he got the job done impressively, just won’t be getting carried away myself.
