Kevin Blake made the point that the handicapper helps the Irish hurdlers and the British jumpers , prob a fair point

March 15, 2023 at 20:58 #1639688He said that? Doesn’t seem logical at all to me?
As i’ve said quite a lot about the likes of Hermes Allen, yes he was impressive, yes some of the horses in behind won, but what they’re winning are substandard races.
The form to really look at with Hermes Allen was his Cheltenham win. 9ls Impressive, but…..he beat a horse of Elliot’s that wouldn’t even be a listed novice hurdler in Ireland. NTD’s yoke has stunk the place out in Ire, probably not his running, but again, he showed the form in a bad light. Hubrisko Ricci even admitted on the day of the race is nowhere near the top of the Mullin’s novices.
Yes he won easy, and that leaves it possible he was still a proper proper horse, but i would say there’s 10 WPM novice hurdlers that would’ve won that as well, if not better.

March 15, 2023 at 21:11 #1639692When Corach Rambler and Fastorslow are separated by only a neck, and Langer Dan and An Epic Song are separated by only a head there’s surely a case for arguing the BHA Handicappers are getting better at assessing the respective strengths of horses at both sides of the Irish Sea.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 15, 2023 at 22:30 #1639709“Jack if you look at the festival hcaps over the last few years it backs it up , last year in the chases Ireland only had 4 placed horses”
Is that because the Irish use their good chasers’ marks up on valuable Irish handicaps, especially the staying handicaps which there are quite a lot of in Ireland? We don’t have as many really valuable handicap hurdles I don’t think- the Galway hurdle is the most valuable one I believe- so it’s worth having more of a crack at the British races with an Irish handicap hurdler than it is a chaser.
