I’ve taken to having a poke at the Aussie racing using Betfair and have just made a horrifying discovery. Back in October I took the opportunity to take the 2% commission rate that Betfair was offering, lovely jubbly.
Looking at yesterdays results the commission I was being charged on the Aussie racing was right out of whack. A bit of investigation and I discovered the base commission rate on Australian racing was variable from state to state, between 6% and 10%

Clicking the rules button on the race you are backing in will open a box with the commission rate at the bottom.
Too right Dolus….. I bet these with my daughter and we discovered some time ago that we were being hit with over 10% Commission, we dropped Betfair ages ago (for Aussie racing) and we now use Bet365 or Unibet.
There is no doubt whatsover, that so far, Bet365 is the standout bookie for OZ, they have their own equivalent of BOG which they call “protective betting” or summat like that, but it’s BOG by another name….

I do believe bet365 arrive at the BOGISH price by taking an average of 3 different state Tote prices.
As you say MrE BOG by another name but as far as I am aware the only office offering this type of service.
I was disgruntled when taking early UK prices with BOG offices only to discover I was too early and yet again is another anomaly and guess the onus is upon ourselves to be aware and spread the word to other punters where and when we can.

I think I understand you MrE and admit I am finding it harder to profit this month but I take solace of any loss being minor.
Because my financial record keeping is poor, insomuch as what I post does not always align with the reality of my betting, I also will not be sorry to reach the end of January and therefore I shall be happy to post without the constraint of poor book keeping.
I may be off line tomorrow whilst journeying back to Essex, weather permitting.

How strange it is when attitudes change. I have been very much against UK racing but I am finding I am looking forward to the summer flat season if only to see if this new (to me) selection approach bares fruit as I hope. I have already allowed my thoughts to plan ahead and at this time am only intending to risk the Billion pound when GOOD is in the ground description. Good to Soft – Good – Good to Firm and I am wondering if stepping outside these parameters is asking too much of the horse, the handicapper and the ratings. Time will tell.
