    WINDSOR PARK 12/1

If ground is fast i doubt Forgotten Rules will run so Weld who won race before has perfect replacement for him.Won Neptune over hurdles something Rite Of Passage failed to do but he won at Ascot. No doubt in my mind we not seen best of him on flat. With no star from O’Brein yard i see him on the day being the one to beat.

I couldn’t find the thread in which Steve put up Forgotten Rules at 5’s but wanted to comment that his run today on good ground first time out makes him look very versatile and the 5/2 now best price for the Gold Cup has been taken.

I couldn’t find that thread either Nathan.

I felt Forgotten Rules was a clear candidate for the Ascot Gold Cup, given his form level and so little miles on the clock. It’s not been the most competitive of divisions and any progress would put him in the picture. The fact that Brown Panther is second favourite for the race shows the lack of opposition in my mind. Nothing at all wrong with Brown Panther but the Gold Cup hasn’t been his race really and he’s knocking on a bit, as evinced by younger blood Snow Sky taking his scalp this week.

With today’s distance/ground combination in the Vintage Crop not being ideal, and conceding 5 lbs to the runner up Answered, who had already run and won this season, I think it was a good performance on seasonal debut and in only the fourth start of his life. Forgotten Rules must surely have a great chance in the Gold Cup, given that he’s won over further.

Dermot Weld says the horse won’t run with any firm in the going report and that is the biggest concern I have, as the trainer says the Royal Ascot race is the logical target for his up and coming stayer.

I wouldn’t swap him for anything else in the race.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

If Weld runs him, he wins. Even on quick.
