Keep digging MM
If the ostriches take their head out of the sand for a moment, and look at the big picture, and stop thinking that AOB is some sort of superior being, I might just stop.
Its horse racing after all, I think horses win races don’t they ?MM, nobody has said that just that he’s a great trainer. Nobody but you put the kibosh on your great trainers wouldn;t need to run eight horses by kindly pointing out its Magnier’s decision. You’ve managed to ignore all points about his exploits in NH and finally to say that Michael Schumacher won everything because of the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I suggest you look at Ferrari’s performance for the preceding five years before schumacher turned up, brought along Ross Braun, teamed up with Todt and turned the scuderia into the dominant force it is.
Your ignorance is becoming embarassing…. Perhaps take on board what people are saying.. Or at least try and provide counter arguments of some merit sort rather than using badly researched analogies which are wholly inaccurate..
You might not like O’Brien or schumacher but to say they’re no good because of the tools they use is to be honest ridiculous. Schumacher is 7 time world champion for """"" sake…
"Please take on board what people are saying" this statement applies to you also, Aragorn. Obviously you didn’t read my post thoroughy or just saw what you wanted to see. I never said that Schumacher was no good I just asked if he was so far superior to everybody else, because of the resources available, that argument also applies to AOB.
And also I mentioned AOB exploits at NH on a previous post, where I said his wife deserved as much if not more of the credit, it was a husband and wife team after all.
Take Michael Stoute and Kribensis, James Fanshawe and Royal Gait, any trainer can cut the mustard at both codes if the horse is good enough. There is umpteen dual purpose trainers in both Ireland and England so AOB’s achievements in this regard is hardly outstanding.
So before you accuse people of ignorance, try reading peoples posts properly. Ignorant I certainly am not Aragorn. Can I ask a Q, where has anybody alluded to the fact they thought Aidan O’Brien to be a genius? He is hugely successful trainer, and nobody can doubt this, his job is to produce stallions at the end of each year for Coolmore’s bloodstock business. I think he has more than delivered on this and the reason why he is retained by John Magnier.

October 24, 2007 at 16:42 #121254He does, however, make mistakes (some serious)
I’m sure the man himself would be the first to agree. He’s been particularly honest about cocking up Johannesburg’s 3yo career.

"Knowledge is a curse, Ignorance is worse"
Must be a Devine Comedy fan Pru,
Some say ignorance is our greatest gift, depends what way you want to interpret it I suppose.

Neil Hannon is a genius.

October 24, 2007 at 17:08 #121258The Michael Dickinson five was not as great an achievement (as you point out, over indulgence)
Careful, Marz – I didn’t "point out" the running of five horses as over-indulgence, but rather posited it as one possible interpretation of the act. It wouldn’t be my interpretation, for sure, as I wouldn’t have begrudged any of the owners the chance to have their charges contest the race, and it’s not as if Dickinson set out to try to achieve some sort of record in running that many horses anyway.
It represented a great achievement by him, as far as I’m concerned, to get all five there in race-fit condition (they were not all straightforward to train by any means) and effect the result that he did.
when you consider that he had 3 of the first 4 in the betting
That can speak as much for punters’ behaviour as it can for the relative chances of the horses involved. Twiston-Davies could put out the stable yak at present and it would stand a good chance of being backed several points shorter than its ability actually deserves.

Change that to "Richard" and we might be talking.
October 24, 2007 at 17:46 #121263Either way you’re trying to degrade their success and credentials because they happen to have maintained and developed the successful operations backing them. The top teams will only ever employ the top candidates. Its why they’re at the top…[/i]

Actually Pru, I think Stephen Patrick "MORRISSEY" is devine, in fact I might even goes as far and call him a "Genius".

October 25, 2007 at 08:55 #121322The Smiths were a bunch of miserable northerners spewing out samey souless self absorbed garbage. Billynomates music
and the last thing u would put in when u get someone back to your place… (Marvin Gaye for me)
Mozart, Coltrane, Beatles = genius
The only problem I have with multiple runners is with the unexpected team tactics which can be employed. Sooner or later there will be a warranted or perhaps unwarranted issue about what would appear to be the use of spoilers

As an aside we have the G1 Gold Cup (2200m) on Sunday – field of 16 max and one trainer has 8 runners…. and why not, only two of them here can really train stayers
