Congratulations to Conditional rider Mr Knott who won his first race today, the final event at Wincanton, after 28 years of trying.
I’ve just seen the replay and this is just the sort of tonic we need in racing I think, it was so great to see a happy joyous man fulfilling his dream at last.
With all the negativity around at the moment, this made a very pleasant change for me, watching his celebrations on the run in…lol!…
I hope you enjoyed it too.November 21, 2008 at 00:34 #190917Agree with all that…
For any who may have missed it it’s the 4.00 at Wincanton and a race replay is free on the C4 Racing website –
November 21, 2008 at 00:34 #190918Absolutely beautiful. He rode the finish like he was in a world of his own. The reaction of the TV commentators was priceless too.
November 21, 2008 at 01:04 #190921What a belter !
Horse rattles on, jockey well eased.
Easy to see why it has taken so long for a first win – trains on Blackpool donkeys’.
Backing two runners is the relentless pursuit of value. Backing each way is a shortcut to the poor house. Only 7% make a long term profit.
November 21, 2008 at 01:07 #190923Remember you can only view the replays on IE,no use trying on Firefox.
The replay also includes the after race interview where he says that the horse needed three stone in hand to win.
November 21, 2008 at 01:30 #190929Knott would be the oldest conditional rider in living history were he actually one! He rides on an amateur permit, most probably category A.
November 21, 2008 at 01:43 #190933..I’m tempted to do one of those rolling eye things on the above…but, thanks for jumping in and correcting me on that, it’s always such fun when someone interjects on a minor technicality…
enjoy your racing.
November 21, 2008 at 02:04 #190940Good stuff – delighted for Mr Knott.
November 21, 2008 at 02:07 #190941Got a seven day ban as he used his whip in a hands and heels race but I think that’s the last thing on his mind at the moment.
November 21, 2008 at 02:13 #190945If he’d fallen at the last flight today, those people standing around it would have seen Knott’s Landing.

November 21, 2008 at 03:33 #190972Yes, it would be fun, wouldn’t it Ugly Mare, if it were in fact only a ‘minor technicality’?
I’m sure the stipes would happily offer to waive any such ‘minor technicalities’ and let Mr Knott ride in any race for professional jockeys, in which amateur jockeys are not permitted to ride unless they hold a Cat B permit, which I am pretty sure the gentleman concerned does not hold.
November 21, 2008 at 03:42 #190974Absolutely corking stuff.
Loved the commentator’s comment on the home turn when he said ‘Wise Men Say making ground under unorthodox handling’. Brilliant.
Brought back memories of the Duke of Alberquerque.
November 21, 2008 at 03:46 #190976Yes, I looked up to note him when I heard the commentator mention the ‘unorthodox handling’, Cormack – initially I thought he’d lost both of his irons! Raised a grin, alright.
November 21, 2008 at 03:58 #190982…topped off nicely with comments in running of; "led until after 1st, tracked leader, led 5th until 3 out, bumped along and responded well approaching 2 out, led approaching last, 2 lengths up when rider celebrated victory to friends in crowd final 150yds, always doing enough, game"

oh my word you best chop my head off sweetheart…I was referring to the technical error in my post – not the licence he holds..
anyhow, let’s hope he gets another one
