Agree very much about the spruce, it’s getting halfway towards that gimmicky Hamburg race where they just about run through the ‘fences’, though they don’t swim in the GN yet as they do on the other! Bechers needs its character back too.
Reg question, the championship race was in the NH sphere.
November 13, 2017 at 22:30 #1326646A horse winning his maiden in England is more than likely to tip up in Ireland than anywhere else, if a change of countries is key.
I suggest the Irish trained 2007 Champion Hurdler Sublimity, previously trained in England by Sir M Stoute and oft ridden by K Fallon, Esq.
November 13, 2017 at 23:00 #1326647Well deduced Seasider.
Maiden was at York when he beat a Tregonning talking horse.November 14, 2017 at 11:29 #1326671Think I am due to post one on here, sorry for the delay.
What do the following 20thc Epsom Derby winners have in common?
Hyperion
Dante
Pearl Diver
Erhaaband no others.
November 23, 2017 at 18:26 #1328194^ Based solely upon the information given above, I don’t think anyone knows the answer.
This will be easy for some but:
In which year did the Cheltenham Gold Cup feature 5 winners of that race (2 previous, 2 future, and the winner in the required year).
November 23, 2017 at 20:28 #1328208I won’t bother posting anything else to this page. This is a horrible forum.
It is actually something that people should know and isn’t that difficult. A bit of lateral thinking required.November 23, 2017 at 23:00 #1328236Sorry Crepello I did bust my brains and my googling thumb for about an hour on that question but got nowhere. Mind you I am woefully ignorant of racing history especially the Flat and had only heard of the first horse (well the first two, sort of, as I have heard of the Dante stakes). I feel like a selling plater running in a Grade 1 when I look at this thread!
November 24, 2017 at 14:52 #1328285I dusted white mould powder off the Mortimer book to try and find some patterns. Hyperion had a stable companion rag in the race ridden by Steve Donoghue, Erhaab similar with one ridden by Lester. I then got to a dead end on this angle. Then noticed that the dam’s of these four all had many, many foals but nowt that would put the four in a special category……
November 24, 2017 at 23:38 #1328402It is not connected to their racing careers or breeding, but what happened to them after they had raced.
November 30, 2017 at 18:39 #1329542Another clue please.
November 30, 2017 at 22:55 #1329570At the stud farm
December 3, 2017 at 17:10 #1330201Still no idea.
I think we’re going to need a bigger clue.
December 3, 2017 at 22:36 #1330269It’s to do with their stallion careers.
Hyperion only fits in the group due to something connected to the war.
If no one gets it now I will post answer tomorrow night. People will kick themselves……December 4, 2017 at 01:41 #1330292Hyperion was evacuated to Yorkshire during the war and Dante stood in Yorkshire. Dunno what the connection is with the others though.
Erhaab started at stud in Japan then America then moved back to England and moved studs within England. Pearl Diver started his stud career in England then was sold to to Japan. No Yorkshire connection with these last two that I can find!December 4, 2017 at 10:35 #1330310You are close enough to give you the point (if there was one) They are all stallions who spent some of their careers in the north of the UK.
Hyperion at Theakstone during the war, Dante at the same stud in the 1950s, Pearl Diver at Limestone Stud in North Lincolnshire and Erhaab finished up at a stud in Shropshire.December 11, 2017 at 10:26 #1331585Hi greenasgrass – just curious to know if you have a question you’d like to ask.
