Chickenpox? Gout? haven’t got a clue

He had an inner ear infection that badly upset his sense of balance – a very unfair question on my part, but nice to stump you now and again ;)

Yeah but as we know most inner ear infections are caused by Chickenpox :D

Ok while we are waiting for years who is this?

Some clues. She was the first lady to ride a winner in a Euroean Country possibly Portugal.

By Memory she was top lady jockey in her own country

Her sister is married to a trainer who trained in Malton for a spell and was indirectly associated with Colin and Nigel Tinkler in his younger days.

There father trained more than one Grand national winner

    Easy peasy who is she?

It’s Margaret Bell daughter of Harry Bell who won the Scottish Grand National at least twice. She was one of the few successful lady jockeys at the same time as Ron Barry was champion. Margaret’s sister Mary is married to John Mackie who was assistant trainer to Rhona Oliver.Nigel and Colin Tinkler were her stable jockeys.

Where are you Yeats? gotta keep the home fires burning

Dorothy Paget and Lord Bichester had something in common. They both used the same jockey. He rode for Lord Bichester in the National and Miss Paget had him ride for her in the Derby.Who was the jockey and what were the horses?

Martin Molony is the jock – he rode Roimond in the GN for Lord Bicester (sic) as well as winning the Gold Cup on Silver Fame. He finished third in the 1951 Derby on a horse called Signal Box – I’m not sure if he was owned by the redoubtable Ms Paget, but he’ll do at a pinch.

Dorothy Pageet she was off her trolly. She use to phone up bets after the race result was known and the bookies would take them knowing the horse she was backing had lost. In today’s money 1/4 of a million pound on a horse wasn’t uncommon for her. Wouldn’t mind meeting her on a dark night in Club Betfair

BTW Frank Dennis who may have been the guy who created Dennis the menace  owned Signal box, the only time she had a horse placed in the Derby it won but it wasn’t run at Epsom for some reason,

Birthday Greetings I believe was the horse he rode for Dorothy Paget in the English Derby.I thought Signal Box was a miler but he finished third on him at Epsom.Has the feat been accomplished since?I mean to ride in the National and the Derby?Miss Paget’s trainer had a fit when she told him who would be riding her horse in the Derby. You are putting a ******* jump jockey on your Derby runner!!!!!Congratulations Rory and HGM.
Incidentally HGM, she is the last person to meet on a dark night although she did not venture out much due to not being very attractive I believe.See below.
" She also threw a screaming fit at Fulke Walwyn after the trainer could ‘only’ deliver five winners of a six race card. However these rantings were as much dealing as she had with any man, claiming that the very sight of men made her physically sick. Some society commentators of the day noted that her deep hatred towards men may have been due to the fact that, despite her immense wealth, her plain, bordering on ugly looks and huge, at times 20 stone frame ensured that no man ever attempted to win her affections."
    From Wikipedia.
So now it is your turn.

Oh Yuk!!! I knew she was bonkers but not that mad……amazing what people will put up with where money is involved. Hope Fulke robbed her blind the old bag :)

Then trained by Jimmy Harris, I think, although may have been Harry Wharton. I’m sure Hurdygurdyman will refresh my memory!

Well done Ivanjica – your turn.

Apologies for delay but been on holiday.

    A topical question.

What do the Wertheimer family Arc winners all have in common.

They were all 4-y-o fillies at the time, Ivanjica, Gold River, and now Solemia.

Sorry Hurdygurdyman, just seen this, you’re right, I’m ashamed to say I’ve not looked in for weeks

Saw it was getting plenty of postings and people were enjoying themselves so didn’t want to hog the limelight all the time just cos I started it, it’s for all the TRF family

Will keep my beady eye on it now though if I spot a question I know the answer to as I have just thought of a good one to ask.
