I was disappointed with the ride Long Run got. Waley-Cohen is a decent rider among the amateur brigade but in those top races against the crack jocks things happen quickly and you need the day to day race to race match practise which makes those decisions instinctive. Instead of hunting around the horse was ‘racing’ a long way out. I appreciate the horse may not have been helping him but I think if you put Geraghty or Walsh on board the horse may well be the real deal. Still very young and if they look after him, as I’m sure they will, then he could well win a Gold Cup one day. I’m confident he’ll win a King George.
I also very much like Sanctuaire and the Champion Hurdle may not be outwith the realms of possibility for him.
I don’t know if Sam could have done much to change events as the winner won very well but I do agree on the King George.
If ever a race was made for a horse it’s the King George for Long Run. Obviusly he might have to wait if Kauto is on top form but even if he is I would see Long Run as a massive danger.
Long Run King George 2011 and remember David said it first.
March 21, 2010 at 15:10 #284647Had two winning Cheltenham AP bets this year, placed on December 26th and January 6th, so I don’t see any need to get involved so early.
I’m slowly learning to improve as a punter!
This year’s Grand National is a very painful and expensive lesson.
March 21, 2010 at 15:25 #284649I’ve got the most evil looking pile of ante post bets on my desk of horses that didn’t run; would have been better off waiting til nrnb day.Only horse that I got a good price for was Copper Bleu and that was only 16/1 instead of 14’s. And what little profit I made diappeared when I woke up this morning to find a flat tyre on my car. Of course, by next year I shall have forgotten all this…what I shall do over the next few days is re watch the races and try to spot any unlucky horses [especially in the handicaps] rather than do so next March. But not back them..yet….
March 21, 2010 at 16:31 #284659Moe,here"s a sure fire future winner courtesy of yours truly! He may have been beaten fair and square on the day but
Deep Purple
has a big race in him!Mark my words!
March 21, 2010 at 19:40 #284702The only horses from this years Festival that impressed me enough to suggest they’ll be there right there with a real chance next year were
SIZING EUROPE
SOMERSBY
BIG BUCKS
QUEVEGA
CUE CARD
PEDDLARS CROSSadd the five that missed this year
AN SIORRAC reported to be OK now and due out in October
MIKEAL D’HAUGENT
HURRICANE RUN
WEIRD AL
RASH MOVE qualified one day too late for this years FoxhuntersMarch 21, 2010 at 19:46 #284707Bloody hell CS, you’re a hard man. You weren’t impressed by Weapon’s Amnesty?

Yes, he won well but I don’t think this years RSA field was anything near as good as we thought it was before the race.
Also I’d put four infront of him already for next years Gold Cup
AN SIORRAC
BIG BUCKS
SOMERSBY
WEIRD ALin aphabetic order
March 21, 2010 at 21:19 #284730I was all over Big Buck’s to win this season’s renewal, mostly at 40/1 and a little bit at 60. Once bitten etc. he is possibly the best horse in training but is dependant on a change in Paul Nicholls mindset and the decline of Kauto and Denman.
There were signs that within half an hour of Imperial Commander crossing the line that PN was coming around.
BB is also french bred and he should not be waiting too long to go back for the Gold Cup….2012 is almost certainly too late.
It should be remembered (and is a testament to him) that Kauto Star is an extreme exception in his breed(Fr)in doing what he has done as a 9yo. Statistically Master Minded would be nearer to the mean in his profile.March 21, 2010 at 21:33 #284733Just had bet tonight on next year’s Champion Hurdle – Sanctuaire at 20s with Corals.
this is v.early for me, but i couldn’t resist reinvesting some of my winnings from last week.
March 21, 2010 at 21:40 #284736Zaynar for the World Hurdle, you would think Nicholls will now want Big Bucks over fences again with his ammunition obviously going to be weakened, and Zaynar has beat those World Hurdle contenders very easy also so he seems a good bet to me.
Zaynar looked again to be in very good order on Tuesday and will imrprove a ton for the step up, I think he’d be a danger to Big Bucks anyway if he ran or not.
Also Menorah for the Champion Hurdle, he has a huge task in dethroing Binocular but he seems to be very decent on faster ground by far greater value than Dunguib.
March 21, 2010 at 21:42 #284737Oh and my main early investment will be Celestial Halo for The Arkle, if he can wing those fences as he does his hurdles, he will be a serious contender.
March 21, 2010 at 21:47 #284739Well, i’m at a pony club day at Wincanton on May 8th as my niece is riding. PN is always there watching and presenting prizes, so i’m hoping to catch a few words with him –
i’m interested in whether he thinks Big Bucks will stay over hurdles next season (he’s always said his jumping over the bigger obstacles aint up to it). Will Celestial defo go chasing and favoured route to Cheltenham, plus will they be aiming Sanctuaire at next season’s CH?
March 21, 2010 at 21:55 #284742Yeah Celestial’s an obvious Arkle horse. Can’t think of much he’ll need to face as well. Walkon comes to mind, as does Sanctuaire. Anything else?
I can’t help but feel tempted by the 16s on offer for Cue Card. Over the past few years I’ve laughed at and mocked those that have said the Bumper winner will win the Supreme Novices’ as I’ve simply been unable to see what they’ve seen, but for my money the 4yo Cue Card was much more impressive than Dunguib, and what price was Dunguib afterwards? 4s? Crazy.
Also all over the 10s for Zaynar to win the World Hurdle. Been saying he’ll win it since November odd so won’t be changing my mind now

I have already been offered 16/1 about
Celestial Halo
for the Arkle and haven"t took it! As much as i am a fan of the horse i am not convinced his "build" is that of an Arkle winner,i will give it more thought mind! I have already backed next years RSA winner at 66/1,he"s called
Tell Massini
,dont tell everyone though!

I would like to think Mikael will be running over fences this season as a Novice, then being aimed for the Gold Cup! Mikael has frustrated me this season!
March 22, 2010 at 09:46 #284797Gordon, who’s offered the 16s if I may ask?
