He’s still rated higher than his half brother Thistlecrack was at the same stage of their careers Stilvi so we know…I say ‘We’ that obviously doesn’t include you that West Approach is on that rapid rise to fame now.
Just to play devil’s advocate…
Best Mate and Cornish Rebel are half-brothers.
Debuts; Best Mate RPR133, Cornish Rebel RPR138
After 6 starts, Best Mate RPR150, Cornish Rebel RPR152
The supremacy ends there
Well you could have come out with worse analogies Zark but ‘Best Mate was only a 5yo when rated 154 after only his 5th run and ‘Cornish rebel’ was actually a 7yo when rated 141 after his 5th run….Your comparison ends there.
January 31, 2017 at 18:43 #1285032Hehe ok, fair enough, but I’m sure I could find other examples!
January 31, 2017 at 19:28 #1285039I dont get the market variation from west approach to wholestone, why is west approach so short when wholestone is clearly the better horse, 3 times hes been beaten soundly off wholestone, ruby gave him a top ride of course, but weve known the stayers division has looked extremely shaky, aside from UKWIMH ballyoptic has been arguably “the second best” stayer this year and he isnt a top class horse, cole harden was probably flattered by his finishing position in the race
so why would west approach turn the tables on wholestone? Hes been beaten twice over c&d on varying ground
The more i look at this i think if wholestone turns up hes the one to beat
January 31, 2017 at 21:45 #1285066LOL Wholestone’s beaten him THREE times, who the hell cares about the ratings? You seriously thought that was a bad ride by Ruby? He rode a perfect race, gave him every chance at the end and he was beaten by a couple of very good horses. I think your guy might have a better chance on quick ground. Anyway, easy RFC winner, that way we both win.
Ruby was 30 length behind and detached for most of that race and gets beat 3 length by 2 Grade 1 winners…West approach has to be rated 156 if both ‘Cole Harden’ and ‘UknowwhatImeanharry’ ran to around 160 and thats enough to make him fav in my book…’Death Duty’ couldn’t run to that mark today.West approach is my number 2 banker of the meeting now behind my 480/1 Champion hurdle winner Petit Mouchoir
West approach rated 157 and thats more than enough to win an Albert Bartlett…TAPK knows!
That’s 11 eleven runs over hurdles and only one win in a five-runner Class 2. I would far sooner be with a progressive winner rather than a proven loser, whatever the class he has been taking on. Ground is the concern for Death Duty supporters.
He’s still rated higher than his half brother Thistlecrack was at the same stage of their careers Stilvi so we know…I say ‘We’ that obviously doesn’t include you that West Approach is on that rapid rise to fame now.
I see he is quoted as low as 16/1 for the Stayers, is he even certain to run in the Albert Bartlett?
February 2, 2017 at 18:01 #1285358My late night snaffling session has yielded Pylonthepressure at 280s + 290s and Ami Debois at 130s-180s. I make Ami Debois a very likely runner.
That’s bad snaffling on Pylonthepressure. Still, only £4.38 gone. Mount Mews makes it another £5.20 gone, but Ami Debois entered :) All his future entries over 3 miles. 2nd to Wholestone + 3rd to Messire Des Obeaux, so a proven Graded performer. I think we’ve got ourselves a runner. £6.40 odd between 130s and 180s. Got plenty on Wholestone at 20s and 16s so very happy with my book for this.
February 4, 2017 at 11:47 #1285686Ami Desbois has been found an easy opening today to get back on the winners board, the 2/1 has long gone but I’m quite happy just to watch him confirm just why both Wholestone and West Approach have this race between them..both still available at 7/1 and that is generous.

Can you believe some traders put him in at 5/2 last night?

Lovely jubbly, might have a glass of Chablis now.

Should be able to green up on my AB book now and leave Ami Desbois as a big winner.

Peregrine Run would have a squeak as well eh TAPK if he went there ?

Pretty likely he goes Neptune, I’d say.

Possibly and 25’s for that race. Beat them both comfortably at Cheltenham though and underestimated IMO at the moment.

I like Peregrine Runs battling qualities Botchy but like Zark says he’s a Neptune sort…On Good ground he’s an e/w player at 25/1 too..I’m on Messire des Obeaux at 14/1 for that though.
February 4, 2017 at 19:18 #1285789I’m personally clutching my AP vouchers on let’s dance for this, hoping she pitches up. I can’t think of a better race to use her allowance.
February 4, 2017 at 19:18 #1285790Yep, certainly a fair price wherever / if he turns up
February 5, 2017 at 08:12 #1285842Was at Cheltenham last week where West Approach was given an exaggerated waiting ride to place.
I have DD @ 8’s and Wholestone @ 16’s ante post.
I have been toying with the idea of adding West Approach @ 7’s all week, now rated 157 so a massive player.
Thoughts appreciated
I should of cashed out.
