Nice Wholestone form boost with No Hassel Hoff just getting denied at Doncaster. The soft ground should ensure a stiff enough test for him here. Bit worried about a couple. Kimberlite Candy. If Keep In Line stays, he could do something.

Well that was absolutely phenomenal. Dare I say the best novice hurdle performance of the season? He absolutely destroyed them.

I thought West Approach got the finest of rides and was travelling best of all when blundering (and I backed Wholestone).

Doesn’t West Approach look like his half brother Joe,he looks a Chaser in the making too.He was absolutely tanking along before that mighty blunder,I was suprised Aiden kept him at it afterwards though as the horse could easily have injured himself.

Of course TAPK had already got the prices for this before West Approach showed why he is this years Albert Bartlett winner today…’Wholestone’ as good as he is lacks the scope of this horse.Even now 12/1 with Bet365 is huge and I rate him banker material..Move over ‘Death Duty’ you can gallop but you cant quicken like my fellow.

Well he’s got a bit to find, Gord. I thought Ruby gave him a superb ride today, which probably flattered him a bit. No doubt he’s a good horse though. This Wholestone-West Approach formline is just crazy strong. The only thing I have him in is an each-way double at 50/1 with MTOY at 40s :/ also have a bunch of 1p EW Lucky 63s from a couple of months back, and I’m sure West Approach is in a few of them at a price

But very happy with my situation on Wholestone. EW banker, and West Approach probably is too tbh.

Whats he got to find Zark?.He’s rated 10lb better than yours now… Ruby gave him a shocker of a ride if he was meant to win but a superb educational ride to iron out those little jumping errors that can cost him.I agree bothWest approach and Wholestone are the 2 to beat in this years race.Your fellow has a splayed round action that definitely is better suited to soft ground,my fellow floats across the ground like his half brother.Lets see how different their ratings are on Tuesday.’Death Duty’ will be a lovely target to aim at for both.

LOL Wholestone’s beaten him THREE times, who the hell cares about the ratings? You seriously thought that was a bad ride by Ruby? He rode a perfect race, gave him every chance at the end and he was beaten by a couple of very good horses. I think your guy might have a better chance on quick ground. Anyway, easy RFC winner, that way we both win.

Ruby was 30 length behind and detached for most of that race and gets beat 3 length by 2 Grade 1 winners…West approach has to be rated 156 if both ‘Cole Harden’ and ‘UknowwhatImeanharry’ ran to around 160 and thats enough to make him fav in my book…’Death Duty’ couldn’t run to that mark today.West approach is my number 2 banker of the meeting now behind my 480/1 Champion hurdle winner Petit Mouchoir B-)

    YES TAPK!!
I now need to re-watch this race!
If he has given them a big start I will be backing it!!
I love little things like this that happen in races that bookies never take into consideration when pricing horses. Gives us punters great value!
Now going to watch the race and probably have a big punt on west approach however I believe it to be wise to have a saver on wholestone as he has beaten him 3 times and doesn’t look like he’s stopped improving.
Perhaps these 2 are a league above the rest

Who the hell cares about the ratings?

Well this one will go straight over your head then…Last 1/4m sectionals show Wholestone 39.2 secs over 21/2m and West Approach clocked an incredible 37.9 secs over 3m which is known to be a slower pace. Both times were pretty standard overall so allowing for the 8lb more weight Wholestone physicaly carried both horses were not just visually impressive but serious Grade 1 performances. Both trade at 10/1 for Cheltenham and all things being equal have to be placed.’Death Duty’ wont know whats passed him!

The fact West Approach has given them such a head start is likely the reason he had gotten as close as he has imo.

    ^ What he said.

I’ve just re-watched the race and I cannot agree with your assessment, Gordon. He came onto their tails, Ruby made a move to go past and he didn’t find anything, and actually went backwards.

That’s fair enough – I think they went a decent gallop in the Cleeve and Wholestone had plenty in hand. But yes, DD won’t see which way they go. Related EW doubles with Peregrine Run in the Neptune?

Another question I’d pose, Gordon, is…will West Approach actually run in this? He’s run outside of novice company on his last 2 runs, so I just wonder if they’ll stick him in the Stayers…

I didn’t expect you to agree with me Zark but time will tell and lets just look forward to this great renewal. My fellow is certainly rated good enough to win it even before being re-assessed.

He’s still a Novice,Yes I know his half brother ‘Thistlecrack’ was the same before I said he’d win the King george but as much as West approach has that fast improving gene he will stay in the Albert Bartlett and win it Zark…TAPK knows you know that. :rose:
