I’ve just been on the Aintree website and have found this:
Please note there is no Park and Ride service for 2010
I’ve been quite a few times and found this a great service – wondering why it’s been stopped? and how many people won’t know it has …March 13, 2010 at 23:27 #282164I would contact the raceourse to confirm if the Park & Ride has been suspended. I find it slightly hard to believe as there have always been lots of buses there in the past.

Here’s the link where I found it. The relevent bit does not stand out. I can imagine there will be many people who go expecting to find signs to park/ride and when they’re not there will not know what to do … they can’t possibily accommodate all cars on the course. Can you imagine ALL the park and riders taking their cars to the actual course? There’s going to be a bus service (not free and doesn’t say how much yet) from the city centre – but you have to get there and park first. Surely the idea was to keep the people going racing away from the centre? Seems stupid to me. I’m trying to find out why this superb service has been stopped. I don’t want to go into the city centre – costs in money and time. I suppose I’ll have to try and get parking on the course …March 14, 2010 at 09:39 #282209this is unbelivable news, ive been using the park and ride for over 10 years and found it excellent and thousends used it.
the aintree exect julian thick used to be in charge of kempton and we all know what he did to that place and now it seems aintree might head the same way.
aintree must reverse this short sighted desision or there will be a hell of a lot of confusion come the meeting.March 14, 2010 at 12:15 #282259Totally agree with runandskip this is an outrageous decision, Park and Ride is the perfect way for the majority of people to get to the course, and there does not appear any good reason to drop it.
It does seem worrying that as Julian Thick ruined Kempton he is doing the same with Aintree. I was wondering if its worth making a complaint but I doubt we’d be listened to anyway.
March 14, 2010 at 16:35 #282297I had cause to complain about getting out of the car park on Beecher Chase day and made some remark like "thank goodness for the park and ride at the Grand National meeting" and was told then there was not going to be any!! I replied so what am I expected to do and surprise, surprise got no reply. From what I recall there isn’t any public parking on Grand National day at the racecourse and am still in a quandry what we shall do. Perhaps we should all collectively write to Aintree and ask them to explain their decision.
March 14, 2010 at 21:08 #282358I emailed them as soon as I saw it. I might phone them tomorrow. I can’t think of why they’ve done it – it was well-used; ran smoothly; and took pressure off other means of getting there. Seems no logic … Please anyone who will be affected contact Aintree otherwise they’ll think it’s OK. I’m sure there will be plenty of complaints when people go to where the park/ride was and find nothing …
March 15, 2010 at 09:55 #282418I’ve been in touch with someone I know that works at the meeting and he’s going to try to find out what’s happening, as he’s been a user of the park and ride himself. I’ll report back on anythings he tell me.

http://www.visitliverpool.com/grandnati … nd-aintreeAnd why wouldn’t you want to pay £35 to park a car?
March 15, 2010 at 12:12 #282451Maybe they want you to go by train, so get off at Aintree – opposite the course.
Madness…..
March 15, 2010 at 18:02 #282543rang aintree today and it seems its down to them not being able to find a sutible place to park all the cars, all the land is being built on aparently.
so whats wrong with the school they used to always use in kirkby?
ive been promised an explanation email from the operations manager.
i dont much fancy going into the centre of liverpool to board already packed trains and obviously parking your car in a liverpool side street is way too risky so ive booked a parking ticket for each day in the steeplechase car park at £10 a day.
isnt this just the sort of thing the woodentops at RFC are ment to be eradicating?
many thanks to TEN PLUS for highlighting this to usMarch 15, 2010 at 20:15 #282578No reply to my email yet … I’m going to phone tomorrow. Land being built on? So that’s the school and last year’s shopping/cinema complex (can’t remember exactly what it was) … think that’s rather a lame excuse … I’m sure if they could find somewhere suitable if they really tried. Also last year I remember being "frisked" for any food and we had to either dump our little picnic or eat it before we went in – didn’t find that out until we were going through the turnstile.
March 16, 2010 at 08:36 #282721No where to park, frisked for food! A really good way to encourage people to go to the races. What if someone was diabetic?
March 16, 2010 at 16:47 #282947Exactly! Actually my husband is diabetic! I guess they want all food to be bought from them …
"Picnics
Food and drink cannot be brought onto the racecourse and will be confiscated by security staff upon arrival. Aintree has a wide range of food and drink concessions on offer in all enclosures. Picnics can only be consumed in the Steeplechase Car Park."
I phoned first thing this morning – the lady I spoke to was very sympathetic but couldn’t answer my questions and said someone would phone us back – they haven’t done yet. But I will pursue!
Well at least I’ll beable to eat my own picnic in the car at my leisure on the course instead of throwing it down in front of the turnstiles!!!March 16, 2010 at 16:59 #282950As far as I’m concerned, it’s a disgrace that you can’t take your own food in, for a picnic. So they want you to pay OTT prices for food. Rip off merchants!!
I’ve heard adverts on the radio still advertising the fact that there are still tickets/hospitality available.Glad I don’t go anymore – and I didn’t think I’d say that.
March 16, 2010 at 17:03 #282951We used to try the train from our base in Southport, which was fine going to the races but absolute hell going home – long queues and then packed on the train like proverbial sardines – and my only being 5ft nothing found it very claustrophic and even frightening. So for the last few years enjoyed the park and ride – more civilised and found coming in from over the other side of the course was much easier too. Am not looking forward to the pushing and shoving again this year. How hard have Aintree tried to find suitable alternatives? Don’t they realise not everyone who attends Aintree lives in Liverpool.
March 16, 2010 at 17:08 #282954I am getting increasingly annoyed!!! I’ve just spoken to the lady I spoke to first thing – I’m on the list to be phoned…
I asked to purchase a parking ticket and was put through to someone else who was obviously feeling the end of a long day – took my details THEN said £10 PLUS £5 handling/booking fee .. NO way says I!!! I said is it cheaper to book on line – yes. Then I said I was very upset that there was no park/ride – reply – that’s Aintree’s decision … well the way this is going this will be MY decision not to go!!! I think I will be speaking to a person in high Aintree places who I see quite often pointing – but that won’t be until after the meeting! - AuthorPosts
