Further info: that’s a lie!! On-line it’s still plus £5!!!!
Payment Processing Fee with Postage (if any) for this order will be £5.00
GRHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!March 16, 2010 at 21:32 #283040Ive only been there once and wasnt exactly bowled over. A strange course which is better on TV (which is rare)
I parked at one of those shopping parks ten mins walk away. Carpetright sort of place, just up the road. Wasnt a problem
March 16, 2010 at 21:47 #283047Do they not watch out for racegoers parking there? Our local Tesco is right next to the football ground and they do fine people for parking on match days who are obviously going to watch the footy…
March 16, 2010 at 21:53 #283050Maybe, but i just took a chance and nothing happened
They were probably looking for hubcaps instead….
March 25, 2010 at 18:14 #285554Not much is going right for Aintree this year – no park and ride and now no trains for the first two days if the strike announced today goes ahead.

March 25, 2010 at 21:08 #285601I can’t believe they have called this national railway strike for the first two days of the National meeting, how the hell am I supposed to travel up from London now? If I got my hands on that union bloke Bob Crowe…..
March 25, 2010 at 21:35 #285603Oh dear! That’s even worse! I’m going to get a parking ticket and hope I don’t get stuck there trying to get off at the end of the day. The Park and Ride was SO easy … Aintree did get someone from the jockey club to phone me but I was out and unfortunately the email address he left has been written down incorrectly …
March 26, 2010 at 08:33 #285638Ten Plus,
If you want to pursue it, I find that an email sent to <info@jockeyclubracecourses.com> normally gets forwarded on to the best person to provide a response.

March 26, 2010 at 09:11 #285651It does go from bad to worse. We had decided to drive to either Ormskirk or Southport on Thursday and get the train. Now I’ve rung Aintree and guess what the extremely unhelpful lady said "it’s Merseyrail’s problem not ours" – I was gobsmacked! I wish I had "recorded telephone calls for training purposes". I explained that Aintree was encouraging people to use the train but still got the "it’s not our problem response". So with much regret bought a hellishly overpriced with booking fee and special delivery car parking ticket for Thursday.
March 26, 2010 at 09:23 #285657Have you thought of going on to Google Earth and if you follow the map from either the M57 or the M6 and come down the East Lancs.(A580) Road. At the end of the E.Lancs. Road turn off (right) toward Fazakerly Hospital – maybe park (small fee – couple of quid) there and walk for about 15/20 minutes. If you drive along Long Lane you’ll see a Superstore (Taskers) Car Park which should be safe enough.

March 26, 2010 at 09:29 #285660Too late for me now, Ken’s suggestion, but will bear in mind for next year if there is more of this chaos! Like Ten Plus I just hope we get out a darn sight quicker than we did on Beecher Chase day – our digs in Southport are quite particular about checking in times. Once I’ve calmed down I’ll follow AP’s suggestion I think and email Jockey Club Racecourses.
March 26, 2010 at 11:27 #285680At least now Aintree have woken up to the fact they have to do something and a notice is up and running on the website!
March 26, 2010 at 11:55 #285686Out of interest, does anybody have any idea how long it will take a coach to get away from the Steeplechase coach car park after teh last race and put distance between itself and the traffic surrounding the course – heading towards the M6 ?
Have been before but never on a coach and especially one parked in the centre of the course.
Cheers, Lee
March 26, 2010 at 13:23 #285709Just to add to the problems, here’s some info from the BBC local road works listing that a local has just pointed me at via an email:
A59 Merseyside – Rice Lane closed outbound due to roadworks between Cavendish Drive and A5098 Hornby Road, in Liverpool. Diversion in operation – via Breeze Hill, Southport Road, Hornby Road
The A59 is the main road from the centre of the city out to Aintree and Rice Lane is about one mile south of the racecourse. And these works are scheduled to continue until May 31st.
So that’s the fast bus from the city idea holed below the waterline ……

March 26, 2010 at 18:54 #285774I have had an email from:

mark.mackin@thejockeyclub.co.ukPLEASE let the powers that be know how the racing public feel.
I have now booked tickets and parking for Thursday and I hope it all goes smoothly but given the possible train strike, road works, no park and ride – it’s anyone’s guess! I may still be there on Friday!!!March 26, 2010 at 19:46 #285785Normally takes me 75 mins by train and bus but now it could take about 3 hours going all the way by bus.
Maybe Aintree should build a huge campsite so its possible to stop over.
March 26, 2010 at 22:38 #285814That’s an idea – we could bring our caravan …
