It brings a tear to the eye! Nice to see Fahd Salman’s dark green colours again too.
August 31, 2022 at 18:14 #1612940Miraculously, I don’t think the Jubilee Course has been built on yet.
I must get up there (40 minutes up the M3 from me) and walk the old course some sunny day while it’s still there.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 31, 2022 at 18:23 #1612943I have not been to Kempton for a while but I could still clearly discern the outline of the Jubilee Course when I was there.
The Flat at Kempton is a bit boring now, although I did quite enjoy the meetings under the lights I attended.
August 31, 2022 at 18:52 #1612949Such a great turf course and with the sprint races right through the middle as well a la Sandown. The Easter meeting was always looked forward to
With regards to Adayar it is just ticking off another race from the list of ones he has been penciled in for and now missed (expect a ‘he needs a little more time’ reason to be mentioned at some point to explain his absence), the remaining entries he has are for the Irish Champion, Arc & Champion Stakes and I wonder just how long they will wait before the retirement announcement is made?
September 1, 2022 at 09:39 #1612987Unless my memory is playing tricks, I am sure the Kempton management had great plans for the all weather circuit when it opened in 2006. It was going to be this great facility under the lights and attract huge crowds up from London and become something like Happy Valley in Sunbury on Thames.
The harsh truth is hardly anyone goes there. Perhaps that is not surprising during midweek but the track has very few Saturday night fixtures. Even if it did, I doubt many more people would go. Being near London is not necessarily an advantage. There are many competing attractions and a lot of London’s demographic do not want to go racing anyway.
It was a flawed idea from the outset and has made the Flat at Kempton very one dimensional. The old Kenpton may not have been that pretty but I always enjoyed going there. The racing was good to watch but now the Flat seems soulless.
September 1, 2022 at 19:21 #1613042Kempton Park is only 40 minutes from me up the M3 but, apart from being lucky enough to get a freebie in a private box at the King George meeting for a few years back when 32Red sponsored it, I never, EVER, go.
That tells its own story – I think going to a floodlit meeting there is like going to a greyhound track that’s about to go bankrupt and the only difference is the “greyhounds” are bigger and the races last a bit longer.
Oh, and the owners and trainers lounge is full of Harry Enfield-esque “considerably richer than ‘yow’ ” types bragging to each other about their Class 5 and 6 Handicappers.

Quality – I know the types you mean!
I have been to evening meetings at Kempton in late September/early October when the lights go on for the last two or three races. I quite enjoyed it but nothing would make me want to go in the depths of winter.
Kempton has never really drawn the crowds, outside of Boxing Day. I went to the September Stakes meeting a few times and it was never exactly packed out.
September 2, 2022 at 17:35 #1613090Adayar entered for a minor 1m2f43yds Stakes contest at Doncaster next Thursday.

Sods law Donny gets torrential rain and they pull him out due to ground being too soft!
September 6, 2022 at 14:50 #1613544Our not-so-intrepid hero finally returns against two rivals in a minor conditions race on Thursday at Donny. Both are officially rated over twenty pounds behind him, so if he struggles to land what will inevitably be very short odds, it could be off to stud for him.
September 6, 2022 at 16:31 #1613556To be fair, one of his “opponents” isn’t a stable companion.

My guess is the stable companion is in it to ensure there is a decent pace rather than a 4F burn up.
September 6, 2022 at 16:46 #1613561To be fair, Derby fourth Maskela ought to give him a bit of a race.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 6, 2022 at 18:48 #1613588He has been beaten a total of 22L in his 3 subsequent runs (all at G3 level) so maybe a stretch to think he can even reproduce that Derby run and if he did would it be good enough to push Adayar even taking into account how ring rusty he is likely to be.
The only way I think he would win is if Adayar really does run a long way below form……..which to be fair given the way Hurricane Lane ran on his seasonal debut in the Hardwicke wouldn’t be the most surprising outcome in the world.
I do hope he does properly come back because with him and the aforementioned Hurricane Lane it hasn’t exactly been a ringing endorsment of keeping classic winning 3yr olds in training.
I do also wonder what price he will be for the race?
September 6, 2022 at 18:51 #1613589Hills are the only bookies to have priced up the race so far.
2-11 Adayar
13-2 Masekela
14-1 the ragSeptember 6, 2022 at 20:42 #1613594What are the actual conditions for this race? As I’ve noticed that there has now been 2, 3 and 3 runners on Thursday in the last three renewals. Why hasn’t some intrepid trainer entered their seventy rated horse to pick up a few quid in place money?
