Is the fact that a (at the time) ‘minor setback’ that ruled him out of running in the Coronation Cup has now snowballed into him apparently needing ‘more time’ and not being ready to run in either the POW at Royal Ascot next week or more worryingly the Eclipse run on 2nd July?
The plan is for him to now go straight to the King George at Ascot on 23rd July but at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if he misses that too and for a horse that we now know prefers good quick ground are they in danger of missing winnable targets during the summer by taking this softly softly approach? Lets face it unless we have an usually dry Autumn, I don’t see him cutting much ice in the Arc or Champion Stakes on softer ground as last season showed.
It makes me question just how fit he was in the lead up to the Coronation Cup prior to the ‘minor setback’ as I would imagine that he would have run in at least three of those four engagements (Coronation Cup, POW, Eclipse & King George) if it didn’t happen unless of course this ‘minor setback’ was a bit more serious than advertised.
June 10, 2022 at 07:03 #1601449I was thinking the same. To reportedly say he is ‘doing well’ and injury is ‘minor’, then continuously delaying an appearance appears misleading.
July 5, 2022 at 13:13 #1605346And suprise surprise now he has been scratched from the King George – wouldn’t shock me if the next announcement is retirement to stud.
Sadly the decision to keep Adayar and Hurricane Lane in training as 4 yr olds looks at the moment to have been a spectacular failure given the latter’s average run in the Hardwicke and his abysmal performance Sunday and the fact that they can’t even get Adayar to a racecourse to run.
July 5, 2022 at 13:31 #1605350Minor setbacks are most often just that, minor.
However, by the law of averages:
Minor setbacks can last longer than expected and / or can appear to be getting better only to reappear. So does not mean we are being lied to.
Had connections known Adayar’s problems would persist then it would make no sense to keep him in training and they’d have retired him before the season started.
Value Is EverythingJuly 5, 2022 at 13:34 #1605351Rather than lying about the extent of the injury, maybe they just forgot about it.
After all, some people get told hundreds of things every day.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 5, 2022 at 13:40 #1605354Not saying they lied just that they may have down played whatever the issue is/was and that following it up with ‘we feel him needs more time’ so we are missing Ascot and then for the same reason for missing the Eclipse begs the question to be asked.
Currently there is no reported reason in the RP as of yet for why he has been scratched today but the fact that the race isn’t until 23 July would indicate something more than a minor setback is in play.

It was a throughly discreditable reference to news coming out of Westminster this morning, totally unrelated to racing and already well documented in The Lounge.
I’ll fetch me coat.

July 27, 2022 at 17:26 #1609030I recommend the 48-hour declaration stage as the optimum time to start lending credence to the latest instalment of “Ripping Yarns.”

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 28, 2022 at 00:47 #1609110Appleby said he has just now done his first bit of work since 3-4 weeks before the Coronation Cup!!!
Will likely be very short of race fitnes if (and that is a monumentally big if) he even makes it to Kempton for the September Stakes and I would be very surprised if he was able to win first time out given all the issues that he has had (so much for the so called little setback that was originally given).
Can’t see ground conditions being anywhere near quick enough for him for either the Arc or Champion Stakes (just like last year) – Breeders Cup might be too tight a track for him so maybe they need to be looking at Hong Kong and assuming he qualified for an invite maybe even the Japan Cup as those races tend to be run on fast ground.
For me though I still think it is more likely that something else will crop up and he doesn’t make it back to the racecourse….maybe he could stay in training as a 5yr old as he might struggle for a place at stud as a Derby/King George winner that didn’t win over 10F is rather unfashionable at the moment.

July 31, 2022 at 06:42 #1609613I see it all the time, but I honestly don’t see the point in losing any sleep over what horses like Adayar are up to.
Experience has taught me that “seeing is believing” and I don’t hang on the every quoted word of connections as if it was a factual extract from a form-book.
The instant Desert Crown had a setback, I thought: “Might be wrong but that’s probably the last we’ve seen of him” and it’s the same story with Adayar.
There are 10,000 horses in training – and hundreds running today and every day.
Ok, those horses aren’t the last two Derby winners, but at least we have proper visibility on them.
I shall believe Adayar is returning to a racecourse when I see him in the 48-hour declarations somewhere.
And if he never appears, or what connections have said seems inconsistent, so what?

Quelle surprise.
August 31, 2022 at 17:14 #1612934Are you sure he’s not at Kempton, Gladders?
Have you searched the course throughly?
He might be down at the old Jubilee Handicap start on the disused dog-leg Turf course.
I doubt it, though.

You already made me feel nostalgic about Haydock’s proper steeplechase course this week. Now you are making me reminisce about the days when Kempton was a proper Flat course!
