Cheers
September 7, 2022 at 17:31 #1613700Rain absolutely bucketing down at Donny at the moment – already good (good to soft in places) and this will likely turn it close to (if not) full on soft if it continues for any significant length of time, wonder whether he will still run if soft?
September 7, 2022 at 20:29 #16137182mm rain reported in the area last 24 hours and 5mm forecast in the next 24 hours.

September 8, 2022 at 16:43 #1613813Has a lot of knee action. Can’t see soft/heavy ground being a problem for this horse and that was the vibe I got from Charlie Appleby.
September 8, 2022 at 17:24 #1613816Hands and heels perfect race for him and lovely to see Adayar back winning after the sad loss of Coroebus at the weekend.

Tougher tasks ahead but as Yeats says he has a good high knee action which should see him competing for honours in top Group races races at the end of the season.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 8, 2022 at 18:15 #1613823I was in the camp that soft Autumn ground would suit him based off him winning by 9L on soft as a 2 yr old but his runs in the Lingfield Derby Trial on soft and the Arc on heavy showed that deep ground isn’t what he needs.
You can argue his best run of all was clocking a real fast time when winning the King George on good to firm and even the Derby win (officially on good to soft) you could argue was much closer to good ground being that the time was only 1.15s slower than standard.
I have wondered whether the Japan Cup and/or Hong Kong would be a viable targets especially given his late start to the season and the likelyhood of the ground at Ascot & Longchamp being similar to last year which he clearly failed to act on.
September 9, 2022 at 07:17 #1613931I think you could easily have excuses for both runs LD. I doubt the ground was the only reason for either defeat lets put it that way. Immaturity/development at Lingfield and he had a well documented setback in his Arc prep which made him look a shadow of his former glory there and at Ascot. That would be my concern regarding yesterday. Wasn’t put under any meaningful pressure against vastly inferior opposition, what does he find when asked to go through the pain barrier which he slmost certainly will be if Baaeed rocks up against him.
September 22, 2022 at 15:23 #1615414Let’s hope that his career doesn’t end like King Kong’s did.
September 23, 2022 at 15:53 #1615537Appleby mentioned that talks have been had about keeping him in training next year which given the abortive nature of this season seems like a good idea – still think they should be looking at potentially running him in a Japan Cup, which more often that note is run on fast ground.
September 23, 2022 at 16:03 #1615538A Derby winner in training at five is a Derby winner thought likely to make limited appeal to breeders at stud.

September 23, 2022 at 18:50 #1615564This is why these 1m4f Group 1s are under pressure – NH stallions earn a fraction of what Flat stallions earn, especially Flat stallions of Classic prospects.
This, in a nutshell, is why first Frankel, and now Baaeed, swerved the Arc.
1m-1m2f is where it’s at – Adayar could win the Arc and still be no more than a NH sire.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 23, 2022 at 19:01 #1615565I blame the neoliberal agenda of dumbing down, personally.
It’s all about short-term thinking and even shorter attention spans.
September 23, 2022 at 19:09 #1615566I kind of agree.
It’s about the fact that, once upon a time (18th/19th centuries) the Gold Cup (the one at Ascot that predates the Cheltenham Gold Cup hence requires no prefix as it’s the original) was the biggest race on the planet, with the Classics mere stepping stones to it, the St Leger arguably being the most important as it too was over a trip.
But the patient aristocratic wealth of old has been replaced by the nouveau rich who demand instant gratification – precocious and fast 2yos, who stay 1m-1m2f at three.
The bloodstock industry has adapted to reflect this shift in market demand, but the Racing Calendar is lagging behind the times.
I love 1m4f Group 1 races like The Derby, the King George and the Arc, but a blind man can see they are in gentle commercial decline.
Frankel and Baaeed ran in precisely none of them – for a reason.

Just depends what Appleby wants to do as he has nations pride and yibir too
September 23, 2022 at 19:48 #1615574Now that Baaeed is going for the Champion Stakes, I’d like to see Adayar contest in it too instead of the Arc. I really wanna see these two horses clash.
