First I shall refer you to my posting of 21 Sept.
Second I would point out the stock market and the economy are not the same thing.
I believe that previously I’ve told of a column in a now defunct magazine written by Ken Fisher debunking stock market myths. One of which interestingly had unemployment as it’s theme where the common acceptation was rising figures where bad for the stock market.
WRONG!
History actually shows that such indexes rise along with unemployment and slowing when the rising unemployment figures abate.
What was announced this morning ….. oh yes rising unemployment.
good luck to allJanuary 21, 2025 at 14:47 #1718571I agree with BCK as I heard from Financial Adviser’s that generally there is no rhyme or reason how the stock market behaves.
It appears to do it’s ‘own thing’.January 22, 2025 at 02:33 #1718590Kid the stock market is flying because unlike a number of other markets it’s seen seen as undervalued for the last few years , if money is being invested then this will be passed on to the companies being invested in … If you want to look back on history then I’d look back to 79 and the similarities , hard decisions made for long term gain , something the Tories of recent years were unable to do

‘if money is being invested then this will then be passed on to the companies being invested in’
anyone who purchases shares in a company pays the previous owner of those shares not the company unless they are held in treasury (ie …the company had brought them back and was holding until it could reissue them)
And eco zealot Miliband strikes again after government ministers agreed to dispose of stockpiled plutonium.Industry experts say it’s a useful fuel for new generation reactors with one source describing the decision “exceptionally stupid & short sighted” and another said it was “a potential gold mine”

I’ve said it before and here comes China again. All the while we in the west keep our heads buried in the sand. Look eastwards folks, it’s the future
January 28, 2025 at 09:40 #1719061Kid companies release shares everyday , as for Miliband while you have a fair point I’m sure you’ll agree the country is in a financial mess after the 12 years of Tory ineptness so we are having to generate money anywhere we can , Labour want to push forward with the greener options for power generation , with what Trump is doing in the US then this is a realistic approach

(the more laws there are the more corrupt the state)
Tacitus (roman historian)
The last Labour government created over 4300 new laws while in power.
With ‘never here Keir’ on his bike again to sell us out to Brussels ..it reminds me what Italian PM Giorgia Meloni said last year
America innovates
China replicates
Europe regulates

The EU is low growth, high unemployment & protectionist.Does this sound like like the growth agenda Labour say they are pursuing? All recent OECD reports say Europe is declining and will continue to do so in the future.
Now by saying the UK wants to align with his beloved EU Starmer is picking sides on what may become a global trade war, instead of standing aside and treading very carefully.
Let me make one thing very plain tariffs and a trade war serves no purpose and are destructive nor am I a fan of Trump but this decision of alignment does the UK no favours.Starmer has never believed in Brexit like so many other of his utterings it was a lie something to get the public to vote for him.
For some context to this post please refer to posts on Sept 21 & 24 and Jan 20.
good luck to allFebruary 3, 2025 at 15:12 #1719755Of course he never believed in Brexit. It’s the greatest act of self harm that a country has ever inflicted upon itself. You only have to look at the people that gave us Brexit to see that. Farage, Johnson, Cummings, Bannon et al. The LibDems are the only ones with the the guts to point out the harm to our economy that Brexit is still inflicting. We need to be part of a huge trading bloc, especially now that Trump has been re re-elected. Then again Trump probably won’t inflict tariffs on us because he’s going to use our NHS as a bargaining tool.

I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysFebruary 7, 2025 at 13:46 #1719946Came across an article on MP Kim Leadbeater’s private members bill and boy has she stacked the deck in her favour!
Of the 23 MP’s to make up the committee she selected 14 who were in favour when voted on in Parliament, this represents a bigger majority than the one in the Commons where it was 55% ….. she has ensured a 60% figure here.
Also the witness’ to be heard shows a clear bias in favour of 38 pro and 20 against. The journalist writing the piece points out as a private members bill Leadbeater is responsible for all the above choices having the sole decision.
The writer points out one interesting omission in the selection of who’s to be a witness.Theo Boer is a member of the Health Council of The Netherlands who was once pro-euthanasia but now thinks his country made a terrible mistake.I think his views would add a valuable insight into what’s happened in Holland as well as an account of ‘buyers remorse’.
Nine judges & senior lawyers have been asked to speak to the committee of which this article says six are pro and two others probably neutral.
Even some of the discussions are private where everyone, even Hansard who have recorded proceedings in Parliament since 1909 was shut out.
So much for the ‘sunlight’ she promised would shine on the debate.
good luck to allFebruary 10, 2025 at 12:46 #1720248Without any one else prepared to raise their head above the parapet let me start.
Labour’s mask has once again slipped with their attitude towards the elderly with MP Andrew Gwynne’s disgusting comments toward a member of the public.
Considering the vigour & enthusiasm this Labour government has pursued the notion of ‘hate crime’ ,I ask why isn’t Gwynne being brought to court and prosecuted just the same as they have done with ordinary members of the public for an ill judged comment made in the heat of the moment and later regretted.
Never mind ‘never here Keir’ …. two tier Kier sets new standards …. ever lower!
good luck to allFebruary 10, 2025 at 14:05 #1720270Can I just point out that when his MP’s behave in such a way Starmer removes them swiftly. Unlike recent Conservative governments that have tried to prop up their MP’s misdemeanours hoping that the electorate would forget about what they’ve done.
February 12, 2025 at 15:02 #1720404Starmer made mincemeat of Badenoch at PMQT today. She needs to stop being totally confrontational. She tries to pick arguments that are unfounded and then, when being told that her facts are wrong, still doesn’t back down. I give her 12 months max although I don’t see who they’ve got to replace her. We need a strong opposition.
February 12, 2025 at 17:15 #1720412Why would you want to replace and find yet another leader in party which has failed this country for 14 years?
The mainly left leaning Conservatives are more closer aligned to Labour (Uniparty’s) than Reform who are the only true opposition to the very left Parliament.
Some 600 out of the 650 MPs are on left, and that’s no accident!
February 12, 2025 at 20:28 #1720423Some 600 out of the 650 MPs are on left, and that’s no accident!
Don’t make me laugh.
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysFebruary 12, 2025 at 20:29 #1720424I always think it’s better to have a strong opposition.I think the Corbyn years allowed the Conservatives to get away with far too much.( I still voted for him, though…). A pity that Johnson threw out so many decent Conservatives. And a stronger Conservative Party might stop Farage and Tice from being on tv all the time.
February 13, 2025 at 05:23 #1720440Badenoch looked like an idiot at PMQs yesterday , she’s out of her depth and the Tories are already sharpening there knives , they do need fresh blood but also someone who can handle themselves in the chamber , she can’t and I’ll be amazed if she not gone in 12 months
