Darren I’m not convinced ‘The Fugue’ is a real 11/2m horse, she has so much speed that a 11/4m would be her ideal trip imo, having said that she only has my filly
Shirocco Star
to beat and I’d rather take the 9/1 about her than the 7/4 about ‘The Fugue’,it should still be a cracker and after seeing her win last time out you wouldn’t be surprised to see her challenging my filly on the bridle at the 2 pole,if it comes down to a battle though, there’s only one winner!
I also like the chances of another horse who owes me nothing inPrince of Johannes
,he’ll run right up to his mark tomorrow and at 16/1 is way over-priced,has to be placed imo!
YourNewfangled
is a certainty and if I can get Evens on the machine I will take it! Good Luck.
August 22, 2012 at 22:08 #410579Touched to read that Gord. One of your greatest qualities is that you always hold your hand up if you don’t get it right.
Joni,I’m a great believer in praising the deserved,I’m also a great believer in celebrating victory, anyone who bets on horses knows that losing is a S*it feeling that can get progressively worse the longer it goes on,how many contributors have we seen on here who fancy themselves as decent judges soon dissapear when they put up a loser or 2,they feel embarrassed to show their faces and off they go.I dont give a monkeys if I’m laughed at for putting up losers on here as those who read me know just by looking at the results section on the RP that if a certain horse wins then TAPK would have been on it even if I’ve not posted it on a thread of mine for a while, the same goes for one that loses too by the way.I’m a realist who trys to keep it that way and thats why I get the amount of views I get.You dear boy are too modest, had I had the foresight you’ve shown with ‘Frankel’ I would have been chanting look at me from the rooftops,I’ve only spotted the Greatest horse in the world, you said he was special after Doncaster and you were right, nobody on here can take that away from you and there’s a few who would like to think they spotted him first, incidentally I saw a genuine £10 win at 880 on the machine for this years Lockinge from a guy who works for Scotbet up in Scotland……Jammy B*stard!
Dawn Approach
is special mate, you can still get 10/1 for the 2000 gns and dont forget who told you first!
August 23, 2012 at 10:22 #410641Gordon, it’s not as simple as you make it out to be with regards to threads coming and going. Some threads just don’t get a response from other posters the majority of the time. Many punters don’t bet in the reasonably sized bets you strike. Someone might come in and lose a few tenners and twenties and just go away and do their own thing. You’re threads survive because you’re knowledgable and have enough money to lose many reasonable sized bets and just keep going. My thread is out of action because i was betting too much early in the season, and began to do better once i lowered my stake and didn’t plan ahead or do write ups. I can’t change my psychology for the sake of a keeping a thread lol. For example, i agree with you that Shirocco star is a nice price and should run a nice race. Now that i’ve put that up she will run her worst race of the season. I think Frankel should go for the Arc. It’s before the Champion stakes, so if he doesn’t get his ground he can fall back on the Ascot race. I think it would be better for his legacy, as opposed to leaving more questions than answers. I had another bet on Silvinico Conti for the KG at the better odds of 20/1.

Graeme I wasn’t directing my quote at anyone in particular!!!
Least not you!Shirocco Star
finished 2nd in the Oaks and that one piece of form alone makes her a 4/1 shot……..25% chance in Gingers formula of winning imo so even at the current price of 7/1 she’s a player,She owes me nothing having backed her e/w for Epsom after her Nottingham bebut at 66/1 but I’d love to see her get her just rewards for some gallant efforts in defeat! I agree about
Silviniaco Conti
,he’s a serious horse and would be my 2nd choice for the King george behind
Grand Cru’s
,that Feltham was some race! My dear Father thinks the latter is a Serious Gold cup horse whereas I’m all over
First Lieutenant
,roll on the jumps!
August 23, 2012 at 13:46 #410666TAPK: Good to see a few more comments coming

Any thoughts on the Ebor? I am on Montivado at 8s and Icon Dream at 25s, the latter is speculative but with Graham Lee riding excellently he could place, should Sir Mark have his horse in good order however, they are all running for 2nd!
Dire weather today at York!! Could cut the ground up for the week-end.
August 23, 2012 at 14:49 #410674I know you weren’t aiming it at me. It was aimed at Hurdy and BruceDelroySavage
…only jokin…sort of. As i type this Newfangled is pulling up
and the rain is falling which doesn’t play to Shirocco Stars strengths. It’s just one of those days racing wise. The Gold Cop horses you mention are interesting. You have a horse who i also backed for the RSA, who has course form and who Davey Russell stood by which are all positives. I can also understand your old fella sticking to Grand Crus, as maybe something was amiss with the horse at Cheltenham. My main GC bet is SDS for obvious reasons, with a saver on Last Instalment. The favs price has got a bit crazy though. For a horse to run well in the Jewson when i think he will be better over the GC distance does it for me really. We will see what happens. I’ll be happy if they get there.August 23, 2012 at 19:42 #410700I know I’ve said it before but
Alastair Down
is in a class of his own as a Racing journalist, his piece in todays RP sums up the talent of the man.Not only does he appreciate the brilliance of both Frankel and his Trainer but he observes the cultural side of those who made the effort to support York on this historic occassion and the significance of it all,a superb read as usual Alastair.
GDC I’m onCamborne
at 10/1 for the Ebor and win lose or draw I wont be backing anything else,I know I really fancied
Motivado
for the Pitmens Derby but I’m not at all convinced he’s an Ebor sort.
Tomorrows Nunthorpe is the race I’ve been waiting for with regard to my sprinter to follow this yearMasamah
,I’m convinced he’s been trained with this in mind all season and have backed him at 33’s and 25/1,28/1 with stan james has been taken tonight!
Masamah
£100 e/w 28/1 Stan James Nunthorpe.
£5700
August 23, 2012 at 20:16 #410704I like to keep an eye on all the relevant 2000gns ‘trials’ the 2yo colts contest and this years Acomb threw up an interesting sort in
Dundonell
trained by the Acomb King Roger Charlton who has now trained 4 winners of the race all for Juddmonte, the question is? Is his latest winner ‘Dundonell’ the new
Bellotto
and the simple answer to that is NO,he just isn’t speedy enough to be a Guineas horse,he’s more like ‘Torrey Canyon’ I’m afraid Ginge! Like I keep saying the Guineas is a 2 horse race,
Cristoforo Colombo
and the machine that is
Dawn Approach
,their respective form still sits top of the pile and
Olympic Glory
has done nothing but boost that with an eyecatching win at Goodwood, a race both mine would have won on the bridle as they would have the Acomb, with the Royal Lodge,National stakes,Middle park, Racing Post Trophy and of course the big one itself…The Dewhurst to come there’s still time for a fly in the ointment to cock my plans up but somehow I doubt it,I’m still backing my 2 every week at 16’s and 10’s just to the odd fiver and tenner but it all adds up! By the end of the Season they will trade well into single figures and as per every other long range Ante-Post wager it will be a long winter,of course I will be concentrating on
Darlan
and
First Lieutenant
then………200 days 13 hours and fifteen minutes but hey who’s counting!
August 23, 2012 at 22:00 #410715Gord what you think of yorkshire oaks a shame THE FUGUE did not win but it sets it up nice for breeders cup filly and mare turf she face SNOW FAIRY who you think would win that gord
Also my only winner was Dermot Weld horse a lightly raced filly too
Gord you forget MARS in your 2000 guineas round up
and i like
WILLIE WAG TAIL
MORWAIJ
DUBAI PRINCE
NOCTURNAL AFFAIRAny early thoughts on Cambridgeshire,Cesarewitch and ayr gold cup all markets for them now.
August 24, 2012 at 08:52 #410758TAPK: How i enjoy reading when you get going
It brings a smile to my extremely ugly mug
Camborne was also mightily impressive and what an outstanding race we have again for the Ebor! As always the winner will either be far too good for the rest or get extreme luck in running. Best of luck though
Sadly due to your father being ill you missed a couple of corkers that i put up, Steeler was given as a ‘must win’ the race before Tue (Haydock i think) and Mr Fallon gave him a gem of a ride, we had it off 8s into 5/2!
Then there was one that i have been feollowing, WILLBEME comes from an up and coming trainer Neville Bycroft who has proved he can ready one given the ammunition! This lady has won 4 now, LTO we hammered Bet365 as they opened up the evening before at 5s and she went off at 7/4 and hosed up again. Tonight at Newcastle she has various issues to overcome. The ground is very different and she also has a nice Duffield mare to beat BUT again the early 4s from 365 has been accepted as the 7lb extra without doubt wont stop her! She is improving with every race and should run well if handling the slower conditions.
Masamah will run his race and you rightly point out that he is over priced and has the added bonus of Graham Lee taking over in the plate
I have been told that Pearl Secret has improved yet again though and despite my own reservations about 3yo sprinters beating their elders have gone in for a win bet just in case he stays unbeaten! For Mr Barron to declare he is the fastest horse he has ever trained, this boy must be good!! Will be watching his interview on Channel 4 this afternoon again, he is the Northern Mans Sir Mark Prescott when he speaks, everyone just listens
August 24, 2012 at 13:45 #410803TAPK: Well the ground has gone so WILLBEME has been taken out, remember her for NTO though mate.
Got the nod for Blaine 2 mins before the off so couldn’t post but they were concerned that the rain had possibly got into the ground a little too much, what a nice battling little horse for next season though

Phil alos thinks Tiddliwinks will at least ‘place’!!
August 24, 2012 at 19:11 #410855A bit late to the party here, but i swear, as soon as i caught wind that
Tax Free
had deservedly gotten his head in front after a succession of near-misses, the first thing that came to mind was TAPK! As ever, loyalty pays off. In other news…
Newfangled
‘s pelvis injury – and my concern over the filly’s well-being – has rightly whittled away my 1000 Guineas ante-post into absolute insignificance. I can only hope she gets through this "dangerous time" to make a full recovery.
Ebor time! Ah, the beauty of internet anonymity… one can ramble on about Saturday picks without fear of embarrassment, even if every one of my horses decides to have a day off, and chooses to canter along like a show pony.
I have two for the Ebor –
Hammerfest
and
Sense of Purpose
. I’m largely counting on the low-pressure system currently moving NE dumping a decent amount of rain on York overnight and during the morning, as
Hammerfest
should thrive in more testing conditions. If i see ‘soft’ somewhere in the going description i’ll be happy. He’s got to reverse Duke of Edinburgh form with
Camborne
, but a 6lb swing in the weights should aid his cause.
Sense of Purpose
looks like he’s been targeting this race, and Weld, the festival in general. The trainer has evidently planned his Ebor ‘invasion’ well, as both
Olympiad
and
Pale Mimosa
won their respective races. Smullen doesn’t ride, but Roche takes 5lbs off
Sense of Purpose
‘s back. Additionally, the raider beat
Mount Athos
by 3 and a half lengths at Leopardstown in August of last year. After two prep-runs in Ireland, he should be sweet as a nut for the Ebor, although he may want the ground a bit firmer than
Hammerfest
would. 25’s were available earlier, but 20’s are still good value.
I’m a bit worried about
Icon Dream
as the Goldie yard has hit a bit of form lately. He was only beaten a length by
Il De Re
on his reappearance, which was his first start
for
the yard, no less. Could be a spanner in the works, although with a 5.8 win %, he may end up finding one too good again – especially in a race as hot as the Ebor.
I would probably have blindly said
Hurricane Higgins
if the Johnson yard were still on the hot streak they were around Goodwood-time

It would seem pretty obvious that this
Mars
fellow is being seen as the Ballydoyle Derby horse,I just hope he’s not the new ‘Camelot’!! I dont thinks he is myself!
Snow Fairy
would beat ‘The Fugue’ over 11/2m imo and every other filly too! Not even I could draw myself to back ‘Fury’ today, not after what
Dubai Prince
did to him last time they met.The Ayr Gold cup has to be
Tax Free
at 20/1 and the Cambridgeshire
Chil the Kite
at 16/1.
August 24, 2012 at 21:21 #410877Few horses have had much impact on me this flat season, obviously
Dawn approach
has the most,
Chil the Kite
has a lot of scope but as far as handicappers go this
Gospel Choir
has touched a chord with me,I like everything about this fellow and even with top weight over a trip he’s never encountered I still see him as different class to the whole field,’Biographer’ is no slouch either and he’ll be placed for sure but he just lacks the prescence of the Cheveley Park colt who has plenty resolution, size and a will to win! Good post ‘wildman’ and good luck for tomorrow!
Gospel Choir
£200 win 5/1 Ladbrokes York 2,30pm

Thanks, King. Always nice to get some feedback from you. Good luck in return for tomorrow, although i doubt you’ll need it!
As it so happens i’m on
Biographer
, so we’ll see how those two stack up come the off. I’ve also had a nibble at
Sir Graham Wade
, who
Gospel Choir
beat by – you guessed it – 2 and a half lengths LTO, as i’m sure you’re aware. I think the Haydock race came too soon for the Johnson horse; it’s possible that he has more class than he was able to show that day.
August 24, 2012 at 22:29 #410884Gord when you look at entries for racingpost trophy in terms of Ballydoyle horses found it a shock that.THE UNITED STATES,
VICTORY SONG,RULER OF WORLD were not entered the latter 2 were in market for derby even though they not run.Looks like MARS will be at Doncaster this year.My bets tomorrow are
SKY LANTERN
BIOGRAPHER
HAMMERFEST
MOON TRIP
SIRUIS PROSPECT
MINILISA
AJJAHMMER
