Albeit, the point that the overall class in the Gold Cup is higher than in the Stayers’ Hurdle still stands, which makes it that little bit more demanding to win
Jesus…hes got to start somewhere hasnt he?
How many runners in next years GC will have GC winning form anyway?
As the GC field stands at the moment, I wouldn’t bet him to place – even with the guarantee of a run..
Not enough to fill all the places i would bet

Wont be many better jumpers in the race either
January 27, 2008 at 12:09 #6408Being aimed at the World Hurdle if he comes out of the race at Fontwell next month, in good form.
Not a bad move i dont think to be honest, although im a massive fan of the horse’s jumping ability over the larger obsticles, Alan King wants to use the horses pace more, and also step him up in distance. He has always said that he isn’t a 2 mile 2 1/2 mile horse, he is a 3-miler.
Stepping him back up to 3 miles over the smaller obsticles will help get him a swift gallop which is what the horse needs.
Im a massive fan of the horse, we are all hoping he runs a great race at Fontwell next month.
January 27, 2008 at 12:23 #138110I’m disappointed at this, i don’t think that he can beat Inglis Drever.
I would have had him in the Ryanair if his problems had been sorted out.
January 27, 2008 at 12:26 #138111As far as i know, they will keep the Ryanair and World Hurdle options open, they wont go for the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
January 27, 2008 at 12:47 #138116Judged on yesterday – MWDS won’t get near Inglis Drever….
January 27, 2008 at 12:47 #138117No offense Gaz but I think King is beginning to clutch at straws with the horse.
I’m not saying it wont work but this Fav is some animal and Jonjo’s is better than some might think.
Trainers tend to do things like this when they are faced with the reality that a horse might not be as good as he was.
O’Gready said of Cloph he would win the Champion hurdle no problem this year but when put to the test he fell flat on his backside………Plan 2 is now in force and he’s going fencing. He simply overrated the horse.
It’s hard to let go when one of your favs loses form but my advise is forget the horse until he proves he’s back on a racecourse.
Just in passing if you suggested to a trainer that you thought a horse, that had been chasing should go back to hurdling after 2 years, the first thing he would say to you is he wouldn’t have enough toe these days.
That must be a huge worry for them and most trainers wouldn’t dream of switching an 8 year old back. It could be a smart move with him just to get his confidence back but to talk World Hurdle now is flying a bit high.
I said in a past post I thought the horse had gone. I know It’s very difficult to judge from videos etc but I got the impression he was sulking and didn’t want to know in his last two runs.
He were mine and that was the case I’d be giving him 3 easy races over hurdles and putting him away till next year. I would avoid hard races like the plague and even send him hunting.
Hope he wins for you next month though and his trainer is nobody’s fool. I am just wondering who’s idea the WH was King’s or the owners and is he under pressure to go this way?
January 27, 2008 at 13:14 #138129If he doesnt come out of the race at Fontwell FOF, then he will be put away for the season.

As a previous winner of the raceMWDS is more then entitled to take his chance.I have plenty of respect for Inglis Drever but he is beatable.

Good luck and fingers crossed he’ll show his old zest for racing

Thanks and i completely agree with that.
January 28, 2008 at 21:25 #138501Bearing in mind how much My Way de Solzen loves soft ground, I’m wondering if a trip to France should be on the agenda – I think he’s made for Auteuils hurdles course. Plenty of decent Group races, and very decent prize money.
January 28, 2008 at 21:47 #138505You never know if he comes out of that race ok and comes back to himself and hurdling is his future why not?………the only drawback is the expense and you could only send a horse you were sure to win with or at least cover the eccies……..if they get him 100% the obvious thing to do would be go for the World Hurdle first as even the place money is worth having….not exactly the way I would go personally but that is the plan and not a bad one at that. Take the front two out the race has a somewhat ordinary look about it.
January 28, 2008 at 22:22 #138520Maybe he’ll never be the class of chaser that some of us hoped he might be but were his poor runs this season simply down to the fact that he was running over fences?
I don’t think so as he was travelling really well upsides Kauto at Haydock until running out of petrol and then he was never going in the KG so I think something must have been amiss that day.
I’m slightly surprised that they aren’t going to persevere – i’d have thought they would have given him one more chance in a lower grade and if that didn’t work out, then run him over hurdles for the rest of the career.

I agree – after Inglis Drever & Blazing Bailey there’s not much else in it !
January 29, 2008 at 00:18 #138552His history shows him to be at his best at Prestbury Park in March, so I wouldn’t give up on him yet- I’d still take him seriously in the Ryanair.

you could be rightJanuary 29, 2008 at 05:37 #138571I’d be sending him to the Champion Chase if he were mine can’t believe no one has suggested it.
Impressive Arkle winner where he beat Twist Magic other than the Nicholls horse he only has his stablemate Voy Por Ustedes to beat.
