“Will say that from time to time the coffin dodging stewards there can be arsey although I’ve not seen it for a while. Bit of a contrast with the ever friendly Kempton up the road

    The above is ridiculous.”

Yeah Kemptons very good for a Wednesday night card, almost noone there most of the time so you have all the space in the world and can chat to all the jockeys when they’re wandering about if you so please.

Sandown are reviewing their dress policy (ie dropping it) Fair play for reacting quickly but it was stupid. Bit surprised at the course in truth

Ben the staff at Sandown are just fine but Kempton always seems to be particularly friendly

Strange you can’t come in wearing a pair of white trainer , yet you can come in with a packet of white powder in your pocket , sniff it and proceed to drink 10 pints , have a fight then vomit on yourself before heading home … Thanks I’ll stick to my quiet day at Kelso where my wardrobe isn’t under constant observation …

A few years ago I was asked to leave the Premier enclosure at Newbury for the heinous crime of not having a tie. At the same moment, a stag party all dressed as Elvis Presley turned up – but that was deemed acceptable under the dress code.

    I have a good story

Aquaitance me and mates met yesterday goes racing everywhere. All over uk and Ireland all the time. But will not ever go to ascot and York because of dress restrictions

And yet yesterday at sandown he was in jacket and tie

Point is he is won’t be TOLD what to wear. I think it’s great

Yea he’s a bit odd (but very sharp) and I wouldn’t want to hang around him much but cracking attitude

Yes, quite. Assume these dinosaurs expect all “ladies” to be wearing high-heels – just about the most unsuitable footware for a race meeting where, as we all know, you end up walking miles, often on dodgy terrain. I remember ringing the Curragh before my first trip to the Irish Derby (many years ago) and asking if there was a dress code. Bloke thought I was mad, though he was very polite about it.

A most enjoyable day at Bath, completing a pleasant week at Epsom Tuesday, Sandown Friday, Parham yesterday and Bath today.

Am I the only one going racing (the purpose of this thread)?

Is everyone else sat at home watching old Marx Brothers movies or bitching about dress codes?

    I would agree there.

I don’t usually go racing four times in a week to be fair.

HDLG – Epsom: yes, Sandown: no, Parham, yes, Bath: yes.

I always sleep just fine, gamble.

    Not having a conscience helps.

Haven’t been racing since York’s October meeting. Uni work might not quite be finished by the time of the Dante Festival, but will endeavour to go regardless. Don’t drive, which has been my excuse for not going often over the last few years (a poor one, considering Thirsk, Beverley and Redcar are all easily accessible by train).

Dress codes annoy me a lot, I would never bother with Royal Ascot because who wants to be dressed up in a suit when the weather is 25 degrees! I never go for the poshest enclosure, save for one rather disappointing outing at my (former) local track of Newmarket. I’ve never understood what is so classy about drunken idiots in suits.

Last time i went to Royal Ascot in a suit (about 4 years ago i think) Krypton, it was the hottest day of the yeqr. 36c

Im not bad with heat in truth but it was simply horrible for most

    Pointless as you say.

Could take this up a level and state that if courses really wanted to ensure good behaviour then its not a tie that will make the difference is it. Ban drinking is the answer.

    Fat chance

And that is just the stewards Tonge!
