The McElroy Syndicate and Jessie Harrington must be pleased with their decision to accept the Sheikh’s offer. Long Lashes looks another in a long line of dud purchases.
How in the name of all that’s holy did a horse who gets beaten in a nursery at Listowel win one of England’s most prestigious 2yo races? Doesn’t say a lot for the 2yo form across the water. The Beresford tomorrow and the Lagardere next Sunday will make for interesting viewing for comparison.
September 26, 2009 at 20:34 #250228Jan Vermeer took a huge step foward today and deserves to be mentioned as a Very good Prospect….he stayed soo well today. And ran away from his field…looks a very good horse now and Zarkava you have a live contender for the Derby now as that was a strong enough maiden. Oxx’s when let down was very average and i think now he has dogged it the last 2 occasions. He would need to win next time out very impressivly for me to consider him for any Top Group races next season.
September 26, 2009 at 22:11 #250239I wouldn’t be in such a hurry to put a line through Vale Of York. Pulled much too hard but still finished well. He isn’t straightforward but is progressive and I suspect at some stage he will win a decent race.
As for Jan Vermeer he won in a style that suggested he MIGHT be a very good horse. Today’s race did not appear to be the most competitive of maidens and he had a relatively easy lead.
September 26, 2009 at 22:58 #250257I overheard someone at Ascot today saying that Maktoum didn’t consider Waseet to be good enough to be winning today and the fact that Joshua Tree won says that I’m happy to completely write off Waseet and High Twelve for the Derby. They’re just not that good at all.
Delighted with Lady Darshaan, may have lost my money today but I’m liking my 85s a lot for the 1000. Sent From Heaven and Mudaaraah can be confidently ruled out and Jan Vermeer stays in with a comfortable maiden success so a good day in terms of eliminating certain runners.

Thought that was a very taking performance today in the Beresford and the horse throughly deserves his place in the Derby market. Looks a right horse and did everything expected of him.
I wonder what people are thinking when they see Steinbeck sharing favouritism for the Guineas as really the horse has done absolutely nothing to justify it………friggin things been stuck in his box for 3 months and AOB has lost the key
He claims he will run in the Dewhurst but I’ve a feeling this horse isn’t what he’s cracked up to be and may go to Redcar for the Two-year-old Trophy if he turns up anywhere.Would be more interested in AOB other horse Cape Blanco in the Dewhurst who still managed to win well enough despite him absolutely hating the gound last time out. Time will tell which if any is the real Guineas hope.
September 27, 2009 at 22:18 #250453Wow, another 3 gone. Stunning View gone from the Guineas and Derby, Azmeel gone from both and Reiteration out of the Guineas picture.
September 27, 2009 at 22:37 #250458Are you considering Workforce?
He’s a K Abdulla, so he might not be on your lists as he won’t have had big-race entries.
September 27, 2009 at 22:41 #250460Yeah I’ve had a look at Workforce. But there’s a lot of stamina on the dam’s side and the only 2 horses King’s Best has sired with a RPR of over 120 were Group 1 winning milers. Nothing on the trends to rule him out though.
September 29, 2009 at 01:49 #250747Kingsfort has been sold to the Maktoum family. On the Racingpost site.
And Zarkava what did you think of ST Nicholas Abbey on sunday.
September 29, 2009 at 01:59 #250752Is he staying in Training with Kevin guys?
September 29, 2009 at 03:28 #250760Just heard that Prendergast said his preferred target with Kingsfort is the Irish 2000 Guineas. Definitely a slight concern for me.
Not even seen the Beresford yet but his foaling date is a concern, as is the proximity of the runner-up. Also don’t like the horses O’Brien runs in the Beresford. Definitely will not be backing him for the Derby at any price.
September 29, 2009 at 09:14 #250768Aidan introduced to the racing fans three Montjues on Saturday and Sunday Sep 26-7; although all three had been in public before their improvement was so noticeable that they stood out. Joshua Tree, at Ascot. Jan Venmeer at Gowran and St Nicholas Abbey at the Curragh. All three won handsomely and must be tracked for next year! And that is not to mention the host of Galileos in the yard. Maybe next year Aidan will achieve his dream of a 1-2-3 in the Derby!
September 29, 2009 at 23:08 #250850Emerald Commander has been sold to Godolphin. More reduced competition for next year then. Thats the worst thing, there is now next to no chance of Poet’s Voice and Emerald Commander ever clashing again. I wouldn’t mind if Godolphin bought all these horses if they then competed against each other but they dont. And everyone wonders why there are only 4 runners in races like the QEII? Its because all the potential competition was snapped up 12 months earlier!
September 29, 2009 at 23:37 #250854Slightly unfair to Godolphin, as they quite often have two horses in the same race – we all know the colours don’t we, blue with a white cap.
The issue as to whether the horses will ever be the same again, or re-emerge from Dubai is an ongoing worry though.
Anyone fancy a skanky biscuit?
September 29, 2009 at 23:51 #250860God i hate this Godolphin idea of "buying every horse that has showed any glimpse of potential"
I am extremly annoyed they now have there grubby hands on Kingsfort, hopefully he stay with Kevin but if not i be fuming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 30, 2009 at 15:13 #250918So, Kingsfort’s off to Bin Suroor.
I’ve just had £2 on Esaar at 140s for the 2000 and £2 on Mushreq at 130s for the Derby. They’re both down to run tomorrow in a Class 4 Nursery at Newmarket, so at least 1 of the bets will be dead but this Esaar seems to be very highly regarded by Hills.
September 30, 2009 at 16:39 #250934Fecking Great……
