Yeah I know they’re entered for the maiden at Gowran Park but it’s pretty worrying that Ferdinand Magellan, with extremely similar breeding and an abysmal showing on his debut, is entered for the Irish 2000 Guineas but not Captain James Cook.
He is entered in the Irish Derby, although every single O’Brien horse is entered in that.
September 24, 2009 at 03:09 #249874Ooooh, Azmeel not in the Irish 2000 entries, can take him off my 2000 Guineas list.
Not absolutely sure about that.
I’d have thought the two options were Dante-Derby and 2000-Derby.
2000, Irish 2000 & Derby is for the likes of Bolger and Rodrigo.
September 25, 2009 at 14:02 #250047Chabal looks a horse set for great things. Just found a really good interview with Jim Bolger talking about his next superstar.
September 25, 2009 at 14:10 #250049Well my prediction of Jan Vermeer going next to a Gowran maiden has paid off but i doubt it will be 1/4 lol.
John Oxx Betharini lines up in opposition and he looks a very smart horse..
Bolgers Dewhurst entry Book Of Numbers also runs along with Midas Tocuh a Coolmore homebred. Along with Kevin runner and Welds new Hamdan Horse. Looks a very strong maiden….personally i like John Oxx horse.
Roan Inish and Picture perfect should fight out the Weld Stakes after the great man.
Goffs Sprint should go to the Stacks barring Welds newcomer isn’t a superstar
St Nicholas Abbey vs Reiteration and the Godolphin Horse. Should be interesting race but the best news is Chabal does not run. Should be a easy success.
September 25, 2009 at 22:32 #250115I’ve backed Reiteration between 100s and 110s, got £4.70 on those. Very buoyed by his Beresford engagement.

I can’t have Chabal as a superstar, not in any way, shape or form.
I don’t think he’ll stay twelve furlongs either.
September 26, 2009 at 00:40 #250136No, I don’t think he’ll get 12f either. I’ll happily allow an extra furlong or so for the Derby, but even with allowances, I can’t see how he’ll possibly get further than 11f.
I’ve decided against backing Mudaaraah for the 1000 and High Twelve for the Derby, purely because their prices are so poor. 40s and 33s respectively just isn’t good enough, especially given that High Twelve isn’t entered in the Irish Derby a la Azmeel for the same trainer.
My ante-post portfolio is as so;
2000 Gns AP bets
Arcano £13 = £335
Stunning View £2.13 = £97
£5 on crap
Reiteration £4.69 = £4701000 Gns AP bets
Foolish Ambition £2 = £220
Sent From Heaven £2 = £180
Lady Darshaan £2 = £190Derby AP bets
Azmeel £7.90 = £200
Coordinated Cut £6.25 = £212.50
Chabal £2.10 = £54.60 (Only because Stan James wouldn’t let me back Azmeel for more than £2.90)£47 roughly and I’ll be jumping on something else tomorrow morning for £3 to make it a round 5-0. A big run from Reiteration would be very welcome, I only put so ‘much’ on because I wanted to soak up the 3-figure prices. Now I look and there’s another £5 at 100s, grrr.
September 26, 2009 at 03:06 #250148Actually just thought of a possible new trend and there’s good data to support it too. Suddenly thought that quite a few of the last 1000 Guineas winners ran at Newmarket as a 2yo.
And 10 of the last 15 did. Ghanaati, Virginia Waters, Kazzia, Bosra Sham and Sleepytime the exceptions. Certainly not a major trend but a good pointer nonetheless.
September 26, 2009 at 10:51 #250156Was thinking of backing Waseet for the Derby but a quick flick through the trends show 2 Royal Lodge runners in the past 5 runnings.

Mordin mentioned a few weeks ago about the French winners of the Guineas running at N’ket as 2yos.
Wish I’d known that before I placed a bet on Naaqoos.
September 26, 2009 at 11:37 #250159You’ve shown me yours, so I’ll show you mine.
A lot of these prices are bad, and quite a few of the horses don’t have a chance. Also, I’m worried about
Viscount Nelson
running in the Breeders’ Cup. Although it is on Artificial, does it mean that if he runs well, he’ll be aimed at the Kentucky? I’d have thought the sensible thing to do would be to keep him there, and run him in races such as the Santa Anita Derby. They are after all a worldwide operation.
2000 Guineas
£15 @ 28 Kingsfort
£5 @ 25 Silver Grecian
£1.99 @ 40 Arctic
£3.98 @ 30 Dick Turpin
£4.34 @ 45.87 Azmeel [edited in, noticed that it didn’t add up to the 5 in the 60.25]]
£3 @ 70 Showcasing
£10 @ 55 Stunning View
£2 @ 210 Emperor Claudius
£7 @ 80 Viscount Nelson
£1.99 @ 70 St Nicholas Abbey
£2 @ 75 Emerald Commander
£1.95 @ 150 Shakespearean
£2 @ 84.98 Quarrel
£60.25 total[/color:2du46bpo]No bets in the other Classics.
Now that he is back in training, I am slightly regretting not having had a bet on Steinbeck when he went out to 20. 20s not really my kind of price, anyway.
edit: Just reread the article. Viscount Nelson is only a
possible
for the Breeders’ Cup Classic, but to me it makes sense to run him there as it is silly for Ballydoyle to squeeze them all into the Criterium, Dewhurst and RP Trophy.
September 26, 2009 at 14:34 #250181Dick Turpin
is to run in the 1400m Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Grand Criterium) on Arc day. That adds a bit of spice to it. Get a bit bored of Ballydoyle versus Godolphin versus the Froggies.
I was wondering why he hadn’t turned up for the penalty kick in the Mill Reef.
September 26, 2009 at 15:02 #250187deleted. Forgot about the run in the Irish sales race.
September 26, 2009 at 16:33 #250204Read in the entries for Newmarket this thursday that Captain James Cook has a entry in the race.
September 26, 2009 at 16:53 #250209Good spot, Darren.
One of the horses I mentioned last month is also entered –
Plato
.
Hadn’t realised it had made its debut a couple of weeks ago.
Soon pushed along in last and very green, struggling throughout, stayed on final furlong, better for experience
You see, Plato is a horse of contemplation rather than a horse of action, and he didn’t realise that he had to run in the race, rather than just watch it.
September 26, 2009 at 18:19 #250212I must say I think Hibaayeb should be demoted – Callan seemed to hit Lady Darshaan full across the head with his whip. Yet another reason for getting rid of whips???
September 26, 2009 at 18:39 #250214Desperate stuff from the British Trainers in the Royal Lodge…how do you lose to a AOB Nursey Horse in a Group 2. Amazing….i would put a big line through everyone of those horses aswell as the winner. Desperate stuff indeed. May have a look at Puncher Clynch now after that as he beat off that horse cosy at Listowel could be a good deal more to come on a good surface.
The Filles race was interesting You’ll Be Mine is more of a Oaks horse but ran well with the shortage of pace up front. Look’s a decent Filly….Long Lashes as i feared was dreadful again. Waste of Money
