Can we all start using tongue-ties on this argument now? :good:

"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"

As many on here know Joni… My tongue tie doesn’t work. ;-)

No doubt Coolmore/AOB is trying to sort the problem out Sunspangled.

There looks to be a hot 1m maiden on thursday in Ireland with FINN MCOOL makes debut but he takes on stablemates who had runs they are Diodorious and Tang Dynaste who was behind CAPRI at Galway. we know these AOB colts improve on 2nd run as well. While Dermot Weld has KING SHILLING make debut he looks a smart horse on breeding to.

Does Kings Shilling look a smart horse on breeding? His breeding looks quite ordinary to me but you probably know more about it than I do.

I would go with Finn Mccool as that’s related to some smart horses and just get the impression that the other O’Brien horses in this are nothing special.

Expectations are high for Finn McCool because the name has been reserved for several years (as Camelot was), and has been given to 2 previous colts but taken away again before they made it to a racecourse. The two stablemates are entered up well (in races like the Futurity, National and Champagne Stakes), and yes, Ballydoyle do block enter, but they are 2 of only 10 Galileo colts (Ballydoyle have over 40 2yo Galileo colts) entered in these races. Saying that, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the two is withdrawn before the race.

Those idiots on At The Races are still showing the wrong breeding for Finn McCool. They have him as being out of Shouk and not Mystical Lady. They even say he is a brother to Sardinia. I think they will find that Sardinia was originally called Finn McCool but they changed the name before he ran and, therefore Sardinia is a full brother to Sardinia. Maybe they are twins.

TimeForm have it correct when they say Finn McCool is a full brother to Kingfisher. Oddly enough, with Finn McCool the 7/4 Fav in the early betting, TimeForm don’t have him in their 1-2-3 Forecast for the race.

I have backed Diodorus at 3/1 as the better value in my opinion. He has the advantage of a previous run, which could be crucial. That race hasn’t worked out that well but it is as near as you will ever get to training in public, as Diodorus was never touched once with the whip. He made decent headway for hands and heels riding and just got up for third. Only beaten half a length and the same, you can only ponder how close he would have gone with a tougher ride.

Obviously the fact that he was tenderly handled first time can benefit the horse long term and with Aidan’s likely to improve greatly from their first start, I feel Diodorus sets the standard here. Colm O’Donoghue was on him last time, so perhaps it is a case of continuity, rather than Seamie thinking Finn McCool is superior.

Finn McCool is a May foal and may need time to be at his best. Even if he is top notch, it’s not always the case that Aidan’s win first time up. The long game surely matters more with this colt and it looks that his debut at this stage of the season probably rules him out of the first of his big entries, The Futurity, as that is only ten days later and he surely wouldn’t be pitched in against Churchill.

Finn McCool’s other big race entries are two at 7F and then the Royal Lodge over a mile. It seems odd to run at a mile in a maiden and then drop to 7F for a group race. I suspect the early entries were perhaps at a time when they felt he had more speed than he is perhaps showing at the moment.

Overall it seems a bit out of kilter that the horse with experience and certain promise, is twice the odds of the newcomer with some firms.

I seem to recall giving Diodorus a favourable mention earlier in this thread, so I felt taking 3/1 on him here was the way forward.

Whatever happens, At The Races have made a right Jack and Danny of it with the horse’s breeding and the arrogant “vampires” won’t be told.

    Diodorus 3/1

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I think they’ll call it a day now.

I read that one last go is being given. The report stated that stockings and suspenders is the last ditch equipment being fitted, presumably to make the horse a bit more “Racey” ;-)

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Finn McCool was to have been out earlier, but he has been going through a growth spurt. I imagine he will go to the the Juvenile Stakes race on Irish Champions weekend

Diodorus might well be the one yeah. Must admit my first gut instinct was to back him, but then changed and went with Finn Mccool. He might just need further (finn mccool that is.)

Sportinglife have also made the same mistake with the breeding on this animal. In any case whatever happens today, I’m sure he has a bright future, as he was born on may the 4th, just like some other geniuses in history ;-)

Disappointing that the three times raced maiden wins the contest.

Brutal had finished behind Right Honourable, who was rather disappointing behind Capri next time, albeit the ground probably went against him that night.

Finn McCool was green and ungainly at a couple of stages. He made a little headway but faded quickly, leaving Diodorus to chase home the winner.

Diodorus looks like a stiffer test will suit, he’s probably a St Leger type if he is to reach the heights.

Finn McCool looks unlikely to take up any of his fancy appointments this year. He is open to improvement but has been beaten just short of 10 lengths by a maiden coming in rated 84 on RPR. That’s a mountain to climb in a couple of months.

No cigar with Diodorus but the thinking was sensible and better than lumping on an 11/10 shot that has not been seen and could go either way on debut.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Salsabeel made a promising, rather than spectacular start to his career at Yarmouth today but I expect much better to come going forward.

Charlie Appleby’s Exceed And Excel colt was not particularly fancied at 5/1 and in the closing stages looked like he had a bit to do from in behind and seemingly little room to work with. However, he managed to find a gap and came through it, picking up well to go and win with more in hand than the winning margin suggests. He looks like a bit of juice in the ground might suit and he should get a mile.

He has entries in some nice group races and would need to improve to be competitive there but this was quite a nice start and I would expect him to follow up in better company before they then see where he stands regarding contests where he would probably face the leading lights of the season thus far.

Salsabeel looked some way short of being fully wound up for this and I think he’s promising for the future.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

yeah. increasingly i’m thinking backing even money shots is a long term losing proposition, you can’t possibly win in the long run doing that.

    especially unraced o’brien animals.

He looked quite weak to me. And very green. He is evidently well liked and will obviously leave that form behind him. But he won’t be winning any Group 1’s this year.

That was a non-event for Finn McCool, never stood a chance after jumping the road, twice, Douglas MacArthur jumped it just the once on debut. He landed hard too, it could only have shook him up and unsettled him. Aidan doesn’t mind them getting beat first time out, and they do seem to be particularly green this year. No matter their debut, I’ve learned to hold judgment until I see their second run.
