I love Hathfa, thejudge, she made a ‘Promising’ debut but could be up against it against Richard Hannon’s Promising who ran a blinder at Goodwood to finish 2nd and Hannon reckons she has come on very well and is expecting a big run. I’m being Judas though as I want Hathfa to win
Somebody To Love in the nursery at Newmarket could of gone under the radar slightly at odds of 10/1. Winning on debut but ran no sort of a race on heavy going and looked all at sea. Last time out in a group two she was beaten just over 4 lengths but never looking a threat. This is a big drop in class, up a furlong and the going is good to fast. The fav is only a maiden winner but the trouble is Somebody to Love is giving away a stone.

August 12, 2016 at 21:35 #1259530Thinking AMABILIS might give Frankuus something to think about in the 2.30 Newbury.
Are you going Nathan? If you do get a good look at her she looks amazing such an athletic looking filly.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 12, 2016 at 21:41 #1259532Here is AMABILIS in the pre-parade at Newmarket just before her maiden when she was 2nd to Dabyah.
I would think she’s improved a lot since that race and just needs to not run so keenly in her races. Perhaps Pat Smullen will be the jockey to keep her calm and focused.

This handler was very good with her, he was talking to her and patting her all the way round non stop in an effort to keep her calm, let’s hope he’s with her tomorrow.

Possibly won’t make it to Newmarket at the end of the month either…..

August 12, 2016 at 21:58 #1259537just a little note on Finn McCool yesterday….i was at Leopardstown and walked away from the parade ring sure he would not be winning……was really babyish just walking around the ring….spent his 5 mins around the parade ring neighing like crazy and reared up on his hind legs once…..did not look like a horse about to go out and win his first ever race.doubt he showed anything like what he can do……apparently O’Brien has had this name reserved for 3-4 years and wanted ti for a horse he really liked…..albeit that hasn’t really paid dividends with Coolmore and Ballydoyle I suppose
August 12, 2016 at 22:12 #1259541@ Hardy Flyer…Just looked at the result of that race with Finn McCool Hardy and looked like he was extremely green in running also. Beaten by a more experienced horse and just made favourite because of connections.
The parade ring tells you so much about these young horses and neighing and rearing up is a definitive negative, your instincts were right and thanks for sharing that with us…Jac

Yeah I must admit Promising is the most likely winner, she is essentially a winner without a penalty as her first run was very impressive, I was tempted to back her but was swayed by the record of Hathfa’s connections in two year old races, they had an impressive winner at Newmarket earlier. She also looks a lovely sort going by the race at Windsor, worry is she could be running into a tartar here.
As you said earlier in the thread mate it would be nice for Hughesie to have a good one.

So sorry you won’t be making it Nathan but perfectly understand how much you have on your plate at the moment.
At least you’ll have best seats in the house to see it all on the TV and hopefully win enough to put by for your next Jolly Boys Outing to Newbury next year or even Champions Meeing at Ascot..Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 13, 2016 at 01:02 #1259580Promising is the most likely winner but there are some nice looking ones with fancy entries amongst the newcomers and for me there will be better value Even money shots than Promising.
Bookies can’t seem to make their mind up on Noseda’s Magicinthemaking, who varies from 6/1 right to 12/1. She has a Cheveley Park entry. William Haggas’ Contentment is in the Rockfel Stakes and is interesting. Obviously Hathfa has a great chance of being a danger as well.
Seems a race to leave for me but Hathfa each-way at 5/1 is probably the sensible bet at the odds.
In Amabilis’s race Escobar looks short enough to me and I am sure Rhododendron fans will be looking for a good show from the Beckett filly. Actually, I am drawn to the rank ousider Argenterie because it makes little sense to me that she is rated 8lbs worse than Amabilis, when there was only a length between them behind Rhododendron last time. Marcus Tregoning’s filly is entitled to improve and was conceding a previous start to Amabilis last time. Tregoning has hit a few winners of late and at 12/1 might be worth a silly couple of quid.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Anambilis all in
August 13, 2016 at 11:18 #1259643My initial thought was to go with Amabilis but there is huge potential for a very messy race. No pace and if she doesn’t settle it could be a complete disaster. If she reproduces her form she has a very good chance, if not she probably blows out completely so in this instance each-way was probably never a great option.
I have watched Smullen mess up on too many occasions this season to see his booking as much of a positive. If there is no pace I hope he lets her go on.
August 13, 2016 at 14:06 #1259684Two more winners for Jean-Claude Rouget in 2yo Maiden races at Deauville today.
I haven’t seen them yet but Kestila is an Aga Khan filly I have been waiting to see, she is a May foal by Siyouni out of a Daylami mare.
I will post the replays when they become available. The earlier race was won by warm favourite Al Motasim, who is by Elusive Quality.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 13, 2016 at 14:39 #1259686Amablis just not good enough to beat the colts. think the beckett’s have gone off the boil of late as well.
Escobar looks a very useful tool.
Another easy winner for Frankel at Donny.
August 13, 2016 at 14:51 #1259692Hathfa in with every chance today, not going to be good enough on that performance.

August 13, 2016 at 14:54 #1259693Amabilis luke-warm in the market and hugely disappointing. You have to wonder if she has actually gone backwards with each run and I certainly wouldn’t be rushing to back her at short odds in an ordinary maiden. No plus for the Goodwood form.

Yes very disappointing.
I notice Promising got beat as well, although she ran much better. I recall hearing something a while back that backing horses in maidens around about evens or odds on (when they are having their second run) is a dreadful proposition long term.
That’s either cus they are overbet as everyone has seen how good they looked in their first run and lumped on accordingly. I mean in virtually every maiden race there’s something about evens that ran second or third on their first run, problem is they often regress (as Stilvi pointed out with Amabilis) or they run into a very decent newcomer
I guess with the benefit of hindsight the stoute filly was well overpriced, from the family of showcasing etc, it’s all about the price really I suppose.
August 13, 2016 at 15:37 #1259701I did point out that Amabilis ran 5lbs below her debut mark when beaten by Rhododendron but it didn’t stop some people getting excited about the form.
The excuse given was that she pulled too hard but you would expect a good prospect to improve about ten pounds from run 1 to run 2 in my opinion, and it simply didn’t look that way.
Of course some of these fillies, probably Rhododendron most of all, are prospects for next year, but Amabilis seemed to be getting hyped up early enough as a good prospect for now, when she actually sat 23 lbs behind Fair Eva on Racing Post Ratings, meaning big chunks were needed in a hurry. She has plenty to prove after never being involved today.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
