Pascal Bary’s Antonoe is due out next Tuesday and the plan was to step her into Group 3 company for her second start. She fairly stormed home at Deauville but it was a bit hard to evaluate the form because it was a race for fillies who hadn’t run yet.The runner up at Deauville was the Al Shaqab owned Qemah, trained by J C Rouget, and she started favourite for that race. She was no match at all for Antonoe on the day but she ran at Longchamp yesterday in a 13,000 Euros conditions race where she started a narrow favourite. Qemah won her race by three lengths from an Andre Fabre trained filly Doha Dream. That’s obviously encouraging for Antonoe’s prospects.
This should be a good race as Andre Fabre’s Gherdaiya is also due to run and there is Ella Diva who is 4/4 and Mark Prescott has Alinstante who is 3/4 in her career but stepping up markedly from Chelmsford at 1/10F last time.
Early forecast has Antonoe and Gherdaiya as 2/1 joint favs but the worry for both fillies would be that the ground is soft tomorrow and neither has run on that type of going yet. Antonoe seemed a good moving filly so I just wonder how she will get on. She raced prominently last time though and that might be the right place to be if it is soft.
As usual, it seems like we won’t get any actual odds until about five minutes before the race. I think these bookies are getting worse.
13/8 seems the general price for Antonoe this morning and I would be wiring in heavy on that.
Like taking sweeties from a child as the beast slaughtered the opposition from the front in effortless fashion. This is a seriously talented filly for sure.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 8, 2015 at 16:30 #1200352I wasn’t able to see it Steve – any idea where I can catch up with it? Sounds like she was very impressive.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"

Sorry Joni, no idea on that one. I am just glad I was able to catch it on a Racing UK broadcast. ATR seemed like they were set to show the race but then cut to a handicap hurdle at Worcester.
The coverage of French Racing is pathetic, the Chantilly card wasn’t even on the Sporting Life website and it took forever to get prices for the race. It transpired that 13/8 was like finding money in the street.
Antonoe went straight into the lead and set no more than a steady pace. I wondered whether she had gone fast enough but it soon became clear that those in behind were starting to come off the bridle and she settled it quickly and readily in the closing stages.
Pascal Bary confirmed my expectations that the Marcel Boussac was next and stated she will run unless the ground is heavy. He described her as a filly with a big stride and a good turn of foot, she certainly blew away Gherdaiya, who was as low as 16/1 for the 1000 Guineas coming in. That looks highly unlikely based on today’s result.
Disappointing for me that the Racing UK commentator, and Scott Burton on the Racing Post website both initially referred to Antonoe as a colt. I know she’s big but do your homework lads.
Another of my horses to note, Vedevani, runs at Longchamp tomorrow. Sadly there are only four runners for the group 3 race. He has a much lower rating than some of them here but I reckon he’ll still be favourite. Of course it might be that we get betting for the Racing Post Trophy first but we live in hope and if he’s odds against I’d be interested.
Much more pressing issues, such as AP McCoy being back in the saddle, seem to be occupying the minds of the Racing Press. Probably more chance of getting odds on Joey O’ Brien being next season’s leading Cheltenham Festival trainer, ahead of Willie Mullins, than there is of getting a price on a French race tomorrow, where you might actually win some money.
Next England Manager Paul Gascoigne 150/1? “Clip me off a piece of that action Mr Bookie, I feel something in my water”
I’ll post a clip of Antonoe if it ever emerges Joni!
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 8, 2015 at 23:12 #1200534Well done Steve pinpointing Antonoe she was might impressive and excited to hear that Vedevani is out later today (Wednesday).
It looks like the French will have a strong hand in our Classics next year and if you could
find a clip somewhere of the race, like Joni, would love to see it.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 9, 2015 at 04:02 #1200649Well done Steve pinpointing Antonoe she was might impressive and excited to hear that Vedevani is out later today (Wednesday).

Vedevani is 11/8 fav with Paddy Power in the early betting I found for today’s race and I’d be playing up yesterday’s winnings on that, as I expect greater than average improvement from this horse in the 4.05 at Longchamp.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 9, 2015 at 07:37 #1200761It’s easy enough to watch replays of French races at present, as France Galop have done a deal with Equidia that allows anybody to watch for free up to seven days after the race. I’ve had an Equidia acccount for a couple of years and the costs for older replays is not that much.
Go to http://www.equidia.fr, click on the box top right of screen that mentions ‘replays gratuit’, then the red box on the next page, then put the horse name in the ‘recherche hippique’ box and away you go. Weaklings can click on the union jack flag link to translate the page!
It may be necessary to register with Equidia, but that’s free and just requires an email address and a password. I get the occasional email from Equidia to remind me about big events in France, but that’s all.

I am registered with Equidia but when I click through and search for Antonoe, her two race videos are there but clicking on either of them simply brings up a screen to pay for access to the videos. The videos have the ominous word abonne writ large, and my extensive French language skills (well Google) tell me this means subscriber. Fair do’s the older race is from August but yesterday’s one is in exactly the same boat ie as we say in Scotland “Nae freebies ya bass”
Just like life in general, it’s never long before the grasping hand snakes out looking for money on the internet. No wonder people resort to “flux de course de chevaux vivants”, which is something we Brits refer to as “Flow of Live Horse Racing”
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 9, 2015 at 12:16 #1200921I had the same experience Steve albeit I saw a great article and pictures on Treve.
But look what I found on You TubeShe blew them all away, so easy.
This has got me reaching for a Cuppatee (2.50 Carlisle) each way of course as I think Hugo Palmer’s
Ediye may take this one, doing the forecast though.

JacGood find Jac, I often check for links to videos on Horseracingnation but the video icon wasn’t bringing anything up last night. It links to your video now though.
It seems sad that we probably won’t see her at Newmarket.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 9, 2015 at 14:52 #1201010Apologies – having checked again I can now see that the free replay offer only works if you link to the Equidia replay directly from the France Galop site.
So go here first:
https://www2.france-galop.com/FGWEB/Domaines/connexion.aspx
click on the ‘dont have access code’ line, then ‘Horses and Key Players’, then ‘Race Record’. Enter the name of the horse, which will bring up a career list of its runs and then use the symbol on the far right of each form line that looks like a frame of film to access Equidia for that race. If the race was in the last seven days, that should provide the free replay, if it’s older then you need a paid up account with Equidia.

Vedevani couldn’t match Cloth Of Stars finishing burst today but he may just have bumped into a very smart sort. It was a race I expected to be fought out by the lower rated but less exposed runners and so it proved. My reasoning for making Vedevani the selection today was based partly on the improvement I expected and partly on the fact that Cloth Of Stars had won his race on soft ground and it was a slight extra question mark with the going being a bit faster today.
The winner today may go in to run in the Lagardere on the day the Arc is run, depending how he comes out of this race. Like me, Vedevani’s trainer was slightly disappointed with his colt today and said the following:-
Trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre cautioned against giving up on the runner-up, who could still take his chance in the Lagardere.
He said: “Vedevani was a bit too fresh and did too much early in the race. That cost him at the end but he is still a good horse. We will hear more of him again and nothing is excluded for later in the season. He is hot blooded but he remains a very good horse who just wasn’t able to properly express himself today.”
I think time will show that both horses are pretty talented.

September 9, 2015 at 21:26 #1201232Steve any thoughts on 2yo races this week got National stakes,Moylglare and Champagne along with 2yo group race that Australia won to.
I find it hard to see past Air Force Blue in the National Stakes Darren. He’s a worthy favourite for the Guineas at the moment, after a very nice performance in the Phoenix Stakes last time. He was visually impressive that day, coming from the back with a run that quickly looked like it was going to be a winning one. He fairly comfortably mowed them down and reversed placings with favourite Buratino on their Coventry running.
It looks to me that the 7th furlong will suit Air Force Blue right down to the ground. He will surely simply be held onto longer before coming with his run and picking them up. He looks another potential Gleneagles to me, although some will worry whether he will progress as well as the rain hating Guineas winner, because of being by War Front.
I am dubious about how many O’Brien will field and whether Jim Bolger sends Herald The Dawn, Sanus Per Aquam, both of them or neither? It seems likely the field will whittle down, Air Force Blue will be a hot favourite and will win before being cut to 5/1 for the Guineas.
The Moyglare will probably see Ballydoyle start short and she’s 6/4 in early betting. I thought she did it well last time and don’t share some people’s concern that she lacks the speed to be a Guineas filly. She has progressed well and I think she will confirm the form with Minding and others if they face her again. I think that Dermot Weld’s unbeaten Tanaza is the big danger and for me she is probably the each-way value at 9/2 early doors. Her second race hasn’t worked out very well at all, Alice Springs being a huge disappointment next time but Dermot Weld has caught fire this week and I’ll be surprised if she is out of the 1-2-3 here. Blue Bayou and Now Or Never are respected if turning up but it’s very much Tanaza each-way at 9/2 that appeals as a bet to nothing, despite reservations about her size and physique making less appeal for the Classics next year.
The Champagne Stakes has been all about one horse in the betting and that is Godolphin’s Emotionless. He started 7/2 but is now a clear 7/4 favourite with no money for anything else. Air Vice Marshall has been on the drift for O’Brien’s yard, along with Birchwood, who has had a couple of nice wins and a couple of disappointments for Richard Fahey.
Emotionless created a great impression on his debut, quickly drawing quotes for the Classics afterwards. The problem I have with Godolphin is the number of two year olds who look great first time and then disappoint when all logic tells you they should improve a ton. The form of his maiden win looks terrific at first glance but there’s not a lot of substance to it on closer inspection with an odds-on maiden at Brighton in the mix and a couple of other favs who won maidens. Tidal Wave, who was third to Emotionless won his maiden but was then 4th off a mark of 85 when 7/4f in a Doncaster Nursery today.
At 7/4 I feel Emotionless is too short to get involved in. Air Vice Marshall is decent but not top class yet and I feel he needs to improve on his second to the hit or miss Birchwood last time. Birchwood is one I can’t really trust himself and the one that appeals to me as an each-way pick at 6/1 is Charlie Hills’ Ibn Malik. A son of Raven’s Pass, Ibn Malik landed a Newmarket maiden at 11/1 before being stepped up markedly in class into the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood. Birchwood was favourite there and was deemed by some to have been unlucky on the day. I don’t think he was though and a lot of his problems simply came from not travelling well enough. Ibn Malik ran a great race in being second to Galileo Gold and I think he has more scope than most here. Charlie Hills’ horses are generally running well this past week and he’s had a couple of winners as well. Ibn Malik each-way at 6/1 is my idea against the Godolphin shortie.
It’s a bit early to call the race Australia won in his 2yo season, it seems sure to thin down heavily. Only 4 ran when Australia won but one of the others was Free Eagle, so that wasn’t a bad race, the third horse, Kingfisher, damn near won the Gold Cup as well!
Tanaza each-way 9/2 and Ibn Malik each-way 6/1 would be my picks in races sure to provide big clues for the Classics.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 9, 2015 at 23:29 #1201289Not much of a price at around 7/4 but it has to be Nemoralia in the first at Doncaster (Thursday) 2nd to Ballydoyle at Newmarket and an impressive winner LTO this filly should keep on progressing.
She holds an entry in the Rockfel later this month at Newmarket.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 9, 2015 at 23:55 #1201328The 5.25 at Doncaster sees a hot favourite in the form of Godolphin’s Very Talented. The form choice but I don’t think the standard set is necessarily that high and there are a couple of likely sorts from good yards in here.
Fashaak is a Starspangledbanner colt who cost quarter of a million for the Al Shaqab team and Frankie rides for Richard Hannon here. He’s a half brother to Teak, but it surely has to be hoped he’ll be faster than him!
The one that catches my eye though, is Linguistic, a son of Lope De Vega, who is a stallion producing some nice 2yo’s. This fellow cost 650,000 gns for Godolphin and has been sent to John Gosden. I reckon he can win first time if he’s good enough and Dewhurst and Racing Post entries seem to suggest he is. I would rather play 7/2 on him than risk 8/11 on Very Talented.
Hopefully Linguistic is the talking horse today
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 10, 2015 at 11:24 #1201659Agreed Steve in the 5.25 Very Talented is no price and there could even be doubts that he will get the mile as he hasn’t as yet, so agreed Linguistic could be the talking horse of the day but I have to side with Hannons newcomer Fashaak described as a beauty by Hannon, small but a good mover and reminds him of The Wow Signal he will hopefully bring a much needed winner to the table today. Win Fashaak…Reverse Forecast: Fashaak/Linguistic..
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 10, 2015 at 12:30 #1201688I like Humphrey Bogart in the 3.40 at Doncaster today. He did us a favour earlier in the thread and was far from disgraced when 4th in the Gp 3 Acomb stakes afterwards. Twin Sails is favourite here but Humphrey is down at the bottom carrying 8st 6lbs and I have a feeling that he ran out of puff a bit on the ground at York last time. He was my each-way outsider there and I thought he was in with a chance of rewarding the speculation at 12/1 because he travelled well early doors but he just didn’t find anything once he was let down. I am hoping he might be better suited by the good ground today and with more improvement still possible, he appeals as as each-way bet at 13/2. I would make him 5/1 favourite if I were forming a book on this race.
In the maiden all the money is for Very Talented and Linguistic is a bit weak. Fashaak seems friendless and is 7/1.
Good luck
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
