Would that be Lottery (the very first winner in 1839). Quite appropriate in my view. LOL! :mail:

HDLG, I think the fact Red Rum spells “murder” backwards is a coincidence. The very thorough biography of Red Rum by Ivor Herbert gives the combination of the sire and dam names as the reason for his name.

If you’ve ever watched the film The Shining, there’s a famous scene which is meant to be horrific where a child is chanting “Red Rum” as it’s murder backwards. This scene really doesn’t have the same impact if you are a racing fan!

The main reason was the sire and dam but they did realise as well it was murder backwards , I’ve got Herbert’s book and it is very thorough but if you want to know about rummy then get Gingers bio , proper old school , I see it was Mick Easterby,s birthday , thank God we’ve still got him about , 91 and bright as a button

Racing TV have interviewed De Bromhead and Chris’s Dream is mentioned as an intended runner, yet there is no mention of him at all in the Racing Post article while Court Maid and Poker Party are. I could be left cursing myself yet.

    The Irish Times:

“De Bromhead plans to be triple-handed at Aintree this time with Minella Times joined by Court Maid and Poker Party. However, Chris’s Dream, who unseated his rider four out a year ago, will miss the race. “Chris’s Dream had a setback so won’t go,” De Bromhead said.”

HDLG, I have got Ginger McCain’s bio, but have never got round to reading it! Will have to put that right. He was certainly a character, and I bet he doesn’t hold back in what he says.

Actually knew you meant Red Rum and red rum spelt backwards is murder is a joke which had been going on since he won the National, as a comedian of the time said, ” Red Rum is murder backwards, or it was for the policeman who stood behind him when he opened a shopping mall”

When rummy did the double in 74 he was also down to run in the Whitbread, and had beaten the first past the post that year in the Scottish National, but according to him his wife persuaded him not to run Rummy.

I’m happy with my selections so far, but I fully expect one of them to be missing this time next week.

Delta Work 40-1 non runner no bet
    Mighty Thunder 50-1 ew
    Cloth Cap 66-1 ew
De Rasher Counter 66-1 ew non runner no bet

The additional ones that I’m looking at are Coko Beach and Farclas, but I’ll wait now until Elliot finishes juggling his team

Chris dream not running is a bit of a blow. He was guaranteed a place minimum imo. Every cloud though I guess and his absence means Blacklion will get in and I’ll bet him on the day. Another one who’s a shoe in for a place imo.

I’m really pig sick that Highland Hunter was ruled out by Paul
Nichols this week with a leg. I had 4 bets on him at very decent
prices. I don’t think I’ll back anything now until the final decs
are out. If Burrows Saint is still there I’ll probably have a bet
on him, hopefully 7 places will be abbout by that time.

My Scottish National ante post, the Emmet Mullins trained Rightplacerightime
isn’t coming over and then Highland Hunter gets a leg injury a week
    before the National. Disaster
