God that was grim viewing and I wouldn’t be surprised if we have a whip ban coming out of that race – fingers firmly crossed that all the fallen horses are ok.

Sorry for you, FF; unlucky. Although your jockey/horse walloped mine Atlanta Ablaze. Hope he and the others get up. :-(

Superb ride from Codd, whereas O’Hare took a slightly suspect jumper around the inside with little view of the fences and fallers.

Two of the three horses up

SCratch that. I was just repeating what Nick Luck said.

Ballyward still being treated according to Melissa Jones

Ginge, I was on Atlanta Ablaze too (named in my Cheltenham competition), I thought he
looked the the likely winner heading for home. Biddock didn’t have to touch him, and it
was only when Barry O’Neill was hassling along Discorama, and crossed right in front of
him at the 2nd last that it (IMO) caused AA to fall. I’m not sure if he wasn’t getting tired,
very likely they all were, but he would at the very least have been in the 1st 3 home. Beware
The Bear and Roksana covered my day well enough, but It would have been a very nice e/w to
finish off the day. Oh well, tomorrow’s another day but at least all horses up on their feet :good:

Sad news, according to those stood just a few yards away at the course.

Overjump by Discorama at the last cost him the race; lost significant momentum
    RIP Ballyward

Apparently two fatalities, 9 fallers and dozens of whip strikes after the last….

A proper race. By far the best of the day. A race founded in 1859, I expect the BHA will meddle with it now.

Only four finishers made it look like a war of attrition but IMO a lot of the problems re tiredness was down to the awful jumping by most of the field!! To be honest there was alot of bad jumping throughout the day and I wonder whether it was the ground being difficult to jump out of!!

Sad to hear about Ballyward R I P fella

Making inexperienced novices jump that many fences and run 4 miles maybe too much of a test

With the current atmosphere about horse welfare you can see them changing this race

Last thing we needed to happen in the current climate and I sadly have no doubt there are editors & RSPCA people salivating over this to use as ammunition for their own agenda.

Fingers crossed we have no more for the rest of the meeting – condolences to the whole Mullins team but especially to the lad or lass that looked after Ballyward.
